Light-hearted: Don't you just LOVE some names?

Taking a break from work...how cool is 'Kashuo Ishiguro' especially with 'Sir' Prefix Grin

Always thought 'Isambard Kingdom Brunel' was quite something. Almost as if there will be no room big enough to fit his entire persona. Why hasn't this name ever appeared in the baby names section, they're always looking for something unique Wink

What other names do you know that just make you sit back and think WOW! (in a good way not in a 'Chardonaye' kind of way ifyswim).

William Makepeace Thackeray

I’ve been watching Vanity Fair and the more I think about the name Rawdon Crawley the more I fall in love with it!

Also, used to know someone called Ida Love which I thought was a great name.

Cantthink - Well, a fabulous list of names to completely bring the tone down you’ve got there Hmm.

Zelda Fitzgerald. I just think it's romantic sounding.

Rags Martel. Sounds like he should be a grime artist, but instead is an ITV news presenter. His name always makes me smile.

SerenDippitty · 21/09/2018 23:08

Lawrence Eagleburger, former US Secretary of State

The Puritans were good with names, too, thinking about it some more.

Obviously there's good old Praise-God Barebone, after whom the 1653 Barebones Parliament was named. His son, If-Christ-had-not-died-for-thee-thou-hadst-been-damned Barebone, for some inexplicable reason decided to go by Nicolas Barbon instead.

Dancell-Dallphebo-Mark-Anthony-Gallery-Cesar was clearly expected to go places.

Fear-Not Helly: who said the Puritans were humourless? Wink

Nehemiah Wallington isn't one of the comedy!names (Kill-Sin Pimple must have been a bit of a one to work with; but surely better than Joy-From-Sorrow with its constant reminder your birth = your mother's death!) but think it's quite impressive in its own way. (Whereas Michael Wigglesworth sounds gigglesome & NOT like someone who'd author "The Day of Doom". Oh, Early Modern religion [& religiosity], such fun...)

ProgressPenguin · 22/09/2018 06:31

I have a Victorian ancestor with Gladstone for a first name. That never really caught on did it?

I was reminded of Linda Lusardi the other day as she was in the news for turning 60, I love her name.

I’ve also just discovered a composer called Modest Mussorgsky, it kind of sounds the opposite of modest.

Bobcat14 · 22/09/2018 07:12

Author, Simon Sebag Montefiore. And his wife Santa. Used to work in publishing industry and we always just referred to him as Sebag.

EmMcK · 22/09/2018 07:41

Sorry, haven't RTFT but I have to put Eddie Vedder here. Best. Name. Ever.

Serge Gainsbourg. Such a cool name.

little0miss0mac · 22/09/2018 09:40

Orlando Bagwell. I read it on a list of TV credits when I was a teenager and have always thought that that is what I would call my horse, if I ever had one.

crabb · 23/09/2018 02:11

There’s an ABC (Australian) presenter called Fenella Kernebone, which is fine except I can’t stop myself from saying ‘Patella Kneebone’ every time I hear it.
What about Barrington Pheloung (composer of the Morse and Endeavour themes)? It doesn’t roll off the tongue but it is intriguing.

awesmum · 23/09/2018 02:21
