Light-hearted: Don't you just LOVE some names?

Taking a break from work...how cool is 'Kashuo Ishiguro' especially with 'Sir' Prefix Grin

Always thought 'Isambard Kingdom Brunel' was quite something. Almost as if there will be no room big enough to fit his entire persona. Why hasn't this name ever appeared in the baby names section, they're always looking for something unique Wink

What other names do you know that just make you sit back and think WOW! (in a good way not in a 'Chardonaye' kind of way ifyswim).

There is a radio 2 newsreader called Fennela Fudge, which is both lovely & makes me think of a Ben & Jerrys ice cream flavour.

Skylucy · 19/09/2018 20:17

'Hortense Cumberbatch' is a character in Secrets & Lies. I LOVE this name!

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 19/09/2018 20:18

George Alagiah
Do you have to have a cool name to present the news on BBC?

okeydokeygirl · 19/09/2018 20:18

Fenella Fudge! I knew there was another brilliant BBC one. Thank you. I have been racking my brains and can now rest in peace tonight. 😂

prettyblue · 19/09/2018 20:19

And what about Matthew Amroliwala Grin (said really quickly)?

Jagblue · 19/09/2018 20:20

Engelbert Humperdinck

Mormont · 19/09/2018 20:28

Engelbert Humperdinck's real name is Arnold Dorsey though.

NotPennysBoat · 19/09/2018 20:28

Nina Nannar always makes me smile too. Many years ago, she was on Chris Moyles breakfast radio show, and they made up a silly song, does anyone recall what I'm talking about..?
"Nina Nannar Ni
Na Nannar Ni"

They also did it with "Barack Obama", now there's another fabulous name!

TheLastMermaid · 19/09/2018 20:29

Fenella Fudge is her married name. She used to be Fenella Haddingham.

I'm really beginning to wonder now, very odd.

@Jagblue - Sorry, but i've always thought Engelbert humperdinck sounded really thick. I actually thought it was a made up comic character names and then to my shock i realised it was a real persons name Blush.

There’s a film producer called Barbara Broccoli

TamiTayorismyparentingguru · 19/09/2018 20:38

Definitely Boutros Boutros Ghali - that somehow ends up as an ear worm for me fairly regularly - quite often (like at least once a month!) wake up with the name in my head! I have no idea why!

Jeremiah Obediah Jackanory Jones - I know it’s a fictional character but I just love this name - always have done!

There’s also a well-known Christian blogger in the US with the surname “Hatmaker” which I love and I think has so many options for brilliant first names to go with ir

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 19/09/2018 20:45

@momot
He took the name of real person a composer 1854 to 1921 of Hänsel and Gretel opera fame used to be on at Christmas when I was young.

Whichoneisbest · 19/09/2018 20:45

I was watching a film today starring Armie Hammer, full name Armand Hammer. Like the toothpaste Grin

Whichoneisbest · 19/09/2018 20:46

Also love Krishnan Guru-Murthy

TamiTayorismyparentingguru · 19/09/2018 20:47

Did anyone see a Question of Sport on Friday night just past? They had a brilliant segment with names of sports stars and the teams needed to guess which ones were real and which were made up. It was absolutely hilarious. Some of the real ones were things like a referee called Willie Playfair, and a hurdler called Marina Stepanova

Foxyloxy1plus1 · 19/09/2018 20:53

Another broadcaster- Lyse Doucet. It trips off the tongue.

prampushingdownthehighst · 19/09/2018 20:57

I've always thought the name John Fitzgerald Kennedy was destined for greatness, even if his father Joe originally pinned his elder brother for President.

KurriKurri · 19/09/2018 21:04

I've always loved Labi Siffre's name - it is all soft sounds like his voice.

YourVagesty · 19/09/2018 21:05

Whenever DP and I are watching the news and Nina Nannar comes on, we make ambulance noises.

Sorry Nina Nannar Blush

PiggyPlumPie · 19/09/2018 21:08

Zinidine Zidane - wanted DS to have this as his middle names Blush, stupid pregnancy hormones. Lucky DH put him a foot down!

Still think it's a cool name.
