Light-hearted: Don't you just LOVE some names?

Taking a break from work...how cool is 'Kashuo Ishiguro' especially with 'Sir' Prefix Grin

Always thought 'Isambard Kingdom Brunel' was quite something. Almost as if there will be no room big enough to fit his entire persona. Why hasn't this name ever appeared in the baby names section, they're always looking for something unique Wink

What other names do you know that just make you sit back and think WOW! (in a good way not in a 'Chardonaye' kind of way ifyswim).

One of my favorite radio reporters (NPR) is Ofeibea Quist-Arcton. That name, and her voice. She is quite the star for her great reporting and also how she says Dakar

Also, Syliva Poggioli. Beautiful voice, beautiful name.

And of course, good old Bputros Bputros Ghali. I loved waking up hearing his name on the radio news.

Ooh thanks for the info, beanaseireann! I'll look for the street next time I go to Dublin.

Ray Liotta. Although I think this is because for years I thought it was Raleigh Otter! You know, like the town in Essex. Do’h!

VerbenaGirl · 20/09/2018 22:30

Wolfgang - yes, that needs a revival about now...

I met a Scipio Stringer at a conference thing once years ago. Fabulous name.

There is a martial arts expert/actress called Cynthia Rothrock which also pleases me. Rothrock is a brilliant surname.

I always liked Magnus Magnusson, so much so that my DS is named Magnus. (We have a Scandi surname as DH is part Norwean but it’s not Magnusson Smile)

Interesting fact though- Magnus Magnusson was not actually called that at all. In Iceland you take your father’s first name as your surname so Jon, son of Olafur, becomes Jon Olafursson. This means that fathers and sons do not share the same surname. Magnus Magnusson father was called Sigurstein, so Magnus should actually have been Magnus Sigursteinsson. However the family moved to Scotland when he was young and to avoid confusing people they adopted the British tradition of taking your father’s surname. Sigurstein’s surname was Magnusson (I guess he called his son Magnus after his own father), so Magnus Sigursteinsson became Magnus Magnusson.

There’s a BBC reporter called something like Guta Hari, I love the way that sounds. Also Romesh Ranganathan really rolls off the tongue.

But yet, if half these parents had gone into the MN Baby names section for advice, they would all have been called Evie Smith.

In other words, call your kid what the fuck you like!

@SchadenfreudePersonfied

"I mean - LORD ADONIS!"

Yes I agree with Lord Adonis is fantastic. I cannot remember who , but I read an article where somebody referred to the fact that his first name is Andrew. And then just dropped in "and he's more Andrew than Adonis" Naughty but funny. Lord Adonis is a fabulous handle though
