Light-hearted: Don't you just LOVE some names?

Taking a break from work...how cool is 'Kashuo Ishiguro' especially with 'Sir' Prefix Grin

Always thought 'Isambard Kingdom Brunel' was quite something. Almost as if there will be no room big enough to fit his entire persona. Why hasn't this name ever appeared in the baby names section, they're always looking for something unique Wink

What other names do you know that just make you sit back and think WOW! (in a good way not in a 'Chardonaye' kind of way ifyswim).

Charlotte Dujardin - Olympic equestrian - such a beautiful, calm sounding name.

Tokyo Sexwale wins though! Grin

DappledThings · 21/09/2018 13:17

Some of these names to fair, are really just 'foreign', I doubt Martin Castrogiovanni will get a backwards glance in Italy.

I just like the way they roll off the tongue.

Flooffloof · 21/09/2018 14:06

LGFuad · 21/09/2018 14:25

Okki · 21/09/2018 14:30

Balthazar Getty has always stuck in my mind. DJ wouldn't let me name DS Balthazar Shock

Okki · 21/09/2018 14:31

And even though it's a character- Lucifer Morningstar.

exWifebeginsat40 · 21/09/2018 14:36

also, re Nina Nannar - it’s the bit at the start of Saturday Night by Whigfield.

i used to work with a lot of Filipino and Thai people and some of the names were glorious. an Elvis, a Teddy Boy...but obvs i can’t share any full names.

it did take a while to click that Indonesian people with only one name need ‘First Name Unknown’ or FNU added to flight tickets. i was wondering why Fnu was such a popular name for AGES before i twigged.

DiscoMoo · 21/09/2018 14:44

Three beautiful female names I’ve encountered in real life:
Tansy (her surname went so well with it but obviously I don’t want to say)
Ginevra (has a normal surname like Smith but elevated so much by her first name!)
Ilona (also has an amazing surname but can’t say)

I also adore Loveday as a first name although I’ve never met one.

International Concert Organist - D'arcy Trinkwon. Brilliant name!

PuppyMonkey · 21/09/2018 14:48

I used to work at a local newspaper and a colleague used to keep a list of his favourite PR/Marketing type names - ie people who emailed press releases etc. It was the funniest thing ever, so many good ones but the best was...
Alex Scaramanga.

HerculePoirotsGreyCells · 21/09/2018 14:50

Just remembered! DH has an ancestor called Thomas Weatherburn Dodds. He and his father Isaac were railway pioneers. Always thought it was such a great name.

IndigoSpritz · 21/09/2018 18:15

Correct me if I'm wrong but I think first names like Comfort and Blessing are popular in English-speaking African countries.

IndigoSpritz · 21/09/2018 18:25

Some professional pilot names for you (I've met one of them).

Captain Fear;
Captain Kuntz;
Randy Starbuck.

All genuine, I promise !

TamiTayorismyparentingguru · 21/09/2018 18:32

Yes Indigo - I have quite a few friends from both Nigeria and Ghana, and among them we have 3x Comfort, 2x Mercy, a Blessing, 2x Praise, a Redeemer and a Glorious.

(We also have a good friend in our friendship circle called Joy which is not unusual I know, but she is sister to one of the Comforts and they always sign birthday cards with “tidings of comfort and joy” which makes me giggle.)

IndigoSpritz · 21/09/2018 18:37

Thanks Tami. I guess these names especially Mercy, have some Christian significance.
