Short or long?

Discussing timings with a couple of friends yesterday, both of whom have had their day and so have an opinion that counts - one says long, make the most of it, big party of people who will never/probably never be all together in the same room again; the other says meh, long lie-in, least time possible in an uncomfortable dress, no paying extra for evening food!

Is 12 hours from the start of the service to kicking out time too long/not long enough/just right. Service is in the same venue as the reception, so no travel time, and the venue is a place of 'entertainment' for families under normal circumstances so lots to see and do for people whilst photos, etc. are happening.

I'm worried that people may get bored/pissed/cross with grumpy DCs, but I want to have as long as possible because, well, it's my wedding day! What's the general consensus here? Long or short?

I dont think it was the op - but dont leave a gap assuming everyone can just pop upstairs to their hotel room. not everyone will be staying at the venue hotel if it is a pricey one and they always are.

had that done to.me!

Special, the venue is a zooSmile

Everyone we've spoken to so far has been really excited about it. These are people I've known for 20/30+ years. If they thought it would be a problem venue, they'd have said.

Ooh a zoo sounds ace! Not sure if 2 hrs might be a little long though, it will be tiring drinking /wandering round / drinking again.

A lot of people on MN like to be down on the traditional wedding format. I enjoy 12 hr days, i find a later start a bit rushed tbh. I need lots of time to chat and also time to eat.

But then I love a good party so the longer the better for me!

Both 2hour slots are too long. I’d cut them to 1 hour.

I don't think the zoo is the problem it does sound interesting. Its the mad rush to get there esp with kids in tow. And the 2 lots of free time during the day. I struggle in heals as it is without tackling a zoo in them. Id be temped to get my trainers on. So make sure you tell people that trainers are expected!

for the third time, the expensive hotel comment did not relate to the op.

tell people to wear fit for purpose shoes and stay back from the monkeys.
