Has there been a thread about the fabulous John Lewis ad?

I was utterly mesmerised by it.

And I think whatever it cost JL to make that, it was worth every single penny in terms of marketing.

All the other companies and brands who try so hard to win the best Christmas ad every year will be sobbing this week. JL have gazumped the lot of them.

Fair play.

Well it's not a Christmas add and it's extremely annoying, I flick over when it's on, it's far too long

Agentornika · 07/09/2018 21:35

*ad

MycatsaPirate · 07/09/2018 21:40

In the retail world they are seriously gearing up for Christmas already. I think this video has shades of Love Actually and Nativity. It's genius. And I personally love it. And I love that it's inclusive.

I don't like it either, what the hell has it got to do with John Lewis/Waitrose - how is that ad going to make me want to shop there?

KennDodd · 07/09/2018 21:42

Link?

nothingwittyhere · 07/09/2018 21:44

It's saying that when people are truly invested/engaged in something (like JL's partners are, because they own the business) then they'll work much harder and produce something exceptional.

totallyliterally · 07/09/2018 21:45

Link :)

Meet0nTheLedge · 07/09/2018 21:46

Luckily I've only had to sit through it once so far, I thought it was dire. Far too long, no clue what it's going to be for until the end, really annoying.

reallybadidea · 07/09/2018 21:46

Left me utterly cold but I'm a bit over school performances anyway.

Womaningreen · 07/09/2018 21:46

I just looked it up because of this thread

I couldn't even be arsed to watch the whole thing

Is it just kids doing a shit job of singing Bohemian Rhapsody?

MidwifeDreams · 07/09/2018 21:47

I love it :)

bruffin · 07/09/2018 21:50

I love it too😀

MycatsaPirate · 07/09/2018 21:51

womaningreen No! It's like it starts off small and simple and by the end it's rockets and fireworks and kids on drums coming out the floor.

It's just fab.

I love it also Grin

NotTakenUsername · 07/09/2018 21:51

Got half way through. Quite boring.

LuckyDiamond · 07/09/2018 21:51

It makes me want to run to John Lewis and spend all my ££ there.

Oh no, funnily enough, it doesn’t.

GooseFartingInTheFog · 07/09/2018 21:52

Well I absolutely loved it! Could tell it was JL within a few minutes because of the quality and the feelings

Elpheba · 07/09/2018 21:53

I loved it. DH and I were both mesmerised and wanted to know who it was advertising- he guess Carlsberg (“if Carlsberg did school plays was his line!) and I can understand their concept of how their “partners” will put everything into it if they are part of it. So although I think the rebrand and the money spent on it all is pointless and unnecessary, I think whoever came up with the ad is very good at their job so kudos to them!
(But yes- it is just a smidge too long and they could still have got the same point across in less time)

Plural · 07/09/2018 21:53

Why have jl released their Christmas ad the first week of September?!

Fluffypinkpyjamas · 07/09/2018 21:54

I highly doubt the other companies will be sobbing over that Hmm what a load of old tosh Grin

IWantMyHatBack · 07/09/2018 21:55

@Plural

It's not the Christmas ad. It's the pre Christmas ad. Grin

WhatToDoAboutWailmerGoneRogue · 07/09/2018 21:58

It’s awful! I usually love JL adverts but this is really boring and dull.

Piggyhoolier · 07/09/2018 21:59

I loved the shots of the proud parents in the audience, even when the kids are out of tune or whatever. I said to my DD, it’s a feeling you have as a parent, doesn’t matter if your child is 4th villager from the left in the nativity or a tree at the back of the stage in the panto...you just feel unbelievable pride that your child is there being part of it. Or I do anyway, I know some parents believe their child should only be Mary or Joseph or whatever the star role i

Troels · 07/09/2018 21:59

Just saw it tonight for the first time. I loved it. Had no idea what they were advertizing, Dh said it's probably insurance then it said John Lewis. Still loved it.

MongerTruffle · 07/09/2018 22:01

It's not the Christmas ad.
