Has there been a thread about the fabulous John Lewis ad?

I was utterly mesmerised by it.

And I think whatever it cost JL to make that, it was worth every single penny in terms of marketing.

All the other companies and brands who try so hard to win the best Christmas ad every year will be sobbing this week. JL have gazumped the lot of them.

Fair play.

Agree with pp - JL is a partnership not a limited company - so the owners are also executives/employees so they put a big effort in because they directly reap the rewards. It's a clever, positive ad. It's great.

I thought it was great. Stopped what I was doing to watch it.

I don't see why not liking something that you do makes people miserable. That's to those who accused others of being miserable.

I haven't watched it yet but I don't understand the hype around their Christmas adverts. I liked the dog one because I love dogs but generally they leave me cold.

There was one a few years ago with a boy who was waiting to give his parents a gift, and it was so bleak looking, and they seemed to be completely ignoring him that when I first saw it I genuinely thought that it was going to be an NSPCC advert about the best gift that you could give your children this Christmas is your time/attention.

Aren't they about to cut 270 people's jobs too? I'm not sure that those staff will be feeling too positive about the new advert. I don't have anything against JL btw. I shop there sometimes and in Waitrose. I just don't get the hype.

It's ads like that that makes me glad I don't watch TV. Netflix is as free.

Just watched it and thought it was bloody awful, couldn't they choose children who can sing?, though perhaps that'd make it worse, and just weird. I'll go sit in the corner with the other 'miseries'.

I loved it.

If only school productions were really like that.

I love JL, but this is so boring.
