I need a new one.

No contact with family so I don’t want to go back to my maiden name. Divorced from husband and he is getting remarried so I don’t want his name either.

I don’t know where to start with looking for a new one.

My mother’s maiden name is awful and so is her mothers!

another vote for Smith.
Anonymity guaranteed.

I’m going to use my middle name if I’m ever in that situation (have thought about it).

It’s a unisex name that is also a reasonably common surname.

Forbes.

Phillipson-Masters. A double-barreled name is frightfully fancy. Forbes Phillipson-Masters played for Southampton FC in the 1970s.

haverhill · 01/09/2018 19:56

Greenwood, Holloway or Simenon.

Kirdypurdy14 · 01/09/2018 19:59

Littlejohn-banahamock

MadamBatty · 01/09/2018 20:02

Macgillicuddy or cheddar

CheeseTheDay · 01/09/2018 20:09

I've always wanted to be a Merryweather. I even tried to convince DH to adopt it, when we got married, so we could have our own family name, but he wasn't convinced.

WeaselsRising · 01/09/2018 20:13

I know a lady with the surname Starflinger. Apparently it's German. I think it's fabulous Grin

MoodyMumOfOne · 01/09/2018 20:20

I like Meadows

Lolimax · 01/09/2018 20:25

My maiden name has been mentioned. Weird as it’s rare. My married name now is even more unique (and makes people laugh!)

midsomermurderess · 01/09/2018 20:26

Halliday. Big fan of PG Wodehouse.

Noscrubs · 01/09/2018 20:27

Darling would be a nice surname I think.

MozzchopsThirty · 01/09/2018 20:27

Appleton and Fox would go great with my name and I love them both

Also:
McNamara
McAllister
Mcilroy

midsomermurderess · 01/09/2018 20:27

A friend of my parents was in a situation where she was making new beginnings and she chose 'New'.

BikeRunSki · 01/09/2018 20:34

MacKenzie

Just because I like it.

NipInTheAir · 01/09/2018 20:35

Tear - for the reasons why.

woodhill · 01/09/2018 20:47

Like a lot of those mentioned

I like

Lane

King

Robinson

Winter or Spring

Fletcher

Name surnames such as Peters, Richards or Roberts

My name needs spelling as did my maiden name

duckling84 · 01/09/2018 21:00

I think I'd go for something like Winter. I'd want to change my first name as well as I don't like it.

Saggital · 01/09/2018 21:02

Appleton
Motion
Tressilian
Galadriel

MarianneAgain · 01/09/2018 21:03

I can't change my name... so it's just as well i quite like it, so I've never really thought about a new one but on the lines of
"Or go Icelandic stick dottir at the end of any chaps Christian name you like."
Franklin because my beloved Dad was called Frank, it's a lot closer to the beginning of the alphabet than my name and most people should be able to spell it.
Could you take either your Mum or your Dad's first name as a starting point?

In the realms of fantasy like a PP I could fancy an Italian surname, but the Italian fella I dated was called Piazzi, and a friend married a Bezzi.
Through association with a special place I'd choose Sant'Albano.

RubySlippers77 · 01/09/2018 21:39

Actually I might go for Rainbow.

I know someone with this surname in RL and am envious!

Airaforce · 01/09/2018 21:51

I'd love an Eastern European or Polish surname even though I'm from a different culture! My old neighbours were Mr & Mrs. Baranski, just love surnames ending with ski.

NewUserNameTime · 01/09/2018 22:02

King
Fox
Snow

NipInTheAir · 01/09/2018 22:05

I once knew someone called Rainbird. Had forgotten until you said Rainbow. Wren would be nice or Dove. Oak, Hazel, Hollyberry, Truelove.
