I need a new one.

No contact with family so I don’t want to go back to my maiden name. Divorced from husband and he is getting remarried so I don’t want his name either.

I don’t know where to start with looking for a new one.

My mother’s maiden name is awful and so is her mothers!

Black. You would never have to spell it and it sounds pretty cool with my first name

What’s your middle name? A friend in similar position just dropped surname and took her own middle name as her new surname.

Something from a book you loved as a child?
Name if a favourite book character? (I would choose Blackett after Nancy Blackett)
A real life heroine (Parkes, Curie, Nightingale)
An aspiration: Hope, Goode, Grace,

O’dell. I remember a film character (I think from Shes all that?) and her name was Taylor O’dell and I loved it.
Moriarty is a great suggestion! I would maybe go for your favourite book character or author.

I think I'd go for a place name of somewhere I really loved.

elQuintoConyo · 01/09/2018 17:39

Winterpark.

Not sure if it actually exists as a surname already, but i'd change mine to Winterpark.

I think it'd sound nice with your first name (you mention a woman surnamed Fox with lovely boobs who shared your first name). 3 syllables + 3 syllables it runs nicely together, or shortening your first name so 1 syllable + 3 syllables still works.

I’ve always envied the reporter Damien Grammaticus, so I’d go with Grammaticus.

I would go for something short and simple that everyone has heard of and has no trouble spelling.
Lewis
Grant
Kent
Scott

I'd try to imply a fictitious link with musicians I admire, in my case Cave, Bargeld or Bowie. Or go Icelandic stick dottir at the end of any chaps Christian name you like.

DatsunCogs · 01/09/2018 19:39

As a child I always wanted an Italian name such as Ferrari.

Now I would pick Snow
