I need a new one.

No contact with family so I don’t want to go back to my maiden name. Divorced from husband and he is getting remarried so I don’t want his name either.

I don’t know where to start with looking for a new one.

My mother’s maiden name is awful and so is her mothers!

Something that suggests I’m from a long line of rich, important and clever people.

Swan or Wylde, I just imagine people with these surnames to be "cool"

MargaretDribble · 01/09/2018 10:06

Any name which doesn't require me to spell it out. I suspect though that even Smiths and Joneses encounter people who say 'And how are you spelling that please?'

Wilde and Cavendish are good too. Cadogan?

SoaringSwallow · 01/09/2018 11:04

Ooh I wanted to do this. Got a name:
Wolf.

Without a silent "e".

But reading the lists above, I am having other ideas!

FuzzyCustard · 01/09/2018 11:07

I did change my surname!

I changed to my great grandmother's surname (maternal line) about 11 years ago and have never regretted it. It was also my aunt's middle name and it's quite unusual, so I am delighted to have a name that reflects the female side of the family.

wildewillow · 01/09/2018 11:13

Elba. Mrs Elba

MiddleClassProblem · 01/09/2018 11:21

Got the first end of the alphabet or middle. Just in case things are ever organised in alphabetical order, you don’t have to wait so long or look so far down the list.

Or pick an rarer letter so it’s easy to find.

bigknickersbigknockers · 01/09/2018 11:26

Warleggan

TheMythicalChicken · 01/09/2018 11:28

I would go for something uber-posh, like Fortague-Smythe.

Claricestarling1 · 01/09/2018 11:30

Valmont, Van Der Woodsen, Wakefield..

TheFillijonk · 01/09/2018 11:31

Bucket (pronounced Bouquet) Grin

Joinourclub · 01/09/2018 11:31

Combine your mother’s and grandmothers unfortunate maiden names?

So Hoare and eg Cock become
Hock
Or
Coare

dmvnqpkejnvejrfnpwdkfjvn · 01/09/2018 11:33

Smith. Simple reason is I'd never have to repeat it or spell it for people like I do with my surname!

Ideas for,you could be choosing a first name you like and using that

Ie: Oliver
Thomas
Dawn
Etc
