If you could chose a new surname what would you go for?

I need a new one.

No contact with family so I don’t want to go back to my maiden name. Divorced from husband and he is getting remarried so I don’t want his name either.

I don’t know where to start with looking for a new one.

My mother’s maiden name is awful and so is her mothers!

Smith. I like to fly under the radar.

Someone I vaguely know who was in a similar situation took the name of her home city as her new surname, because she loved the city and felt more attached to it than any family connections.

I could happily go for either of my DGM's maiden names, were they not too weird to pronounce in the UK.

The other one meant the shade of a lime tree, and always sounded very poetic to me.

The other one meant "argumentative". (She was!)

Well my mother’s is Hoare

So probs not going to go for that Grin

Lightbody ( only if prefaced with Mrs G) 😉

Many years ago I met a Mr & Mrs Melody and rather liked the sound of that

RubySlippers77 · 01/09/2018 00:15

I know someone who did this and chose Malory - liked the sound of it, easy to spell, enjoyed the Enid Blyton books Smile

Good luck OP. The world is your oyster!

Redfern for me!

SweatyFretty · 01/09/2018 00:26

Murdoch. I'd never comment on the association and instead just let people wonder. Might help my career out through osmosis.

Taylor. Unlikely to be misheard, you will never have to spell it and limited potential for bad ‘jokes’.

My actual surname has been mentioned upthread - I hate it Grin

I'd choose something like a favourite fictional character, or a favourite author.
