Does this picture scare you?

I came across it on Twitter.

I feel irrationally petrified if I look too closely Blush

I have a huge shark phobia. Not sure why as I'm aware none are even close to this size and most aren't the slightest bit interested in me as food.

But this morning I was in the shower and wondered if the shark could burst through the taps

As a child I would go swimming doing lengthens and always go incredibly fast, completely fuelled by the belief a shark could possible chase me.

Does this picture scare you?

Nah I wouldn't worry about a shark where there is no shark, like in the bath. In the sea perhaps yes.

RestingBitchFaced · 26/08/2018 11:30

Er no, it's not real

ScreamingValenta · 26/08/2018 11:31

I have a rational fear of sharks - i.e. I would be scared if one appeared in the sea next to me - but not a phobia, so, no, the picture doesn't frighten me. Have you sought any help for your fears - if you are worried about sharks in everyday situations, maybe counselling could make you less anxious?

MyCatIsBonkers · 26/08/2018 11:31

No, not just you. It makes me feel slightly sick. I also have a shark phobia and haven't been in the sea since watching jaws over 30 years agao.

Ifailed · 26/08/2018 11:33

No, that picture is just fantasy.

This one, on the other hand scares the shit out of me.

Does this picture scare you?
LinoleumBlownapart · 26/08/2018 11:34

That picture has no affect whatsoever. But I have 0 fear of sharks.

noteveryonescupoftea · 26/08/2018 11:34

I don't usually think about them in the bath etc, even in the swimming pool I'm fine now.

But this picture has aroused some old fears, for some reason.

I've never seen jaws (I know, terrible), and I've never actually seen a shark in any type of scary situation. I saw one before in an Aquarium and felt no fear. It wasn't very large, and it was a great white. I was actually a little disappointed at its lack of size!

For some reason I have an irrational fear that there are sharks the size of a 10 double decker buses or more.

No but if it had been a close up of a snake I would feel uncomfortable. I nearly cycled over a snake and twice almost stood on one all within 4 weeks if each other in three dufferent countries. Shook me up each time.

MsOliphant · 26/08/2018 11:37

I read that for every one human a shark kills, we are responsible for killing million sharks. That's what's scary.

hendricksy · 26/08/2018 11:40

Yes but I do have a fear of sharks as I watched jaws too early 🙈🙈... I want to see the Meg but I'm a bit scared !

dundee12 · 26/08/2018 11:41

I have an irrational fear of sharks bought on by Jaws but equally I’m fascinated by them. As a child thought a shark would get me in the toilet or a pool (think that was a James Bond film). Even now I feel
uncomfortable if too deep in large lakes as a shark may get me etc, & stick to shallows or avoid the sea on holiday, can’t snorkal around a shipwreck without hearing the jaws theme tune. However I’ve swim with harmless sharks & can’t wait to see the Meg!

DolorestheNewt · 26/08/2018 11:41

No, but when I think about giant statues (of a human being, like Statue of Liberty, Michaelangelo's David etc.) I do have an irrational fear that one of them might come alive and look in my window with its massive stone eye and pitiless face.

noteveryonescupoftea · 26/08/2018 11:41

hendrick I was a little disappointed by the meg trailer. The shark isn't that big Hmm I was hoping to see a huge thing!

I'm a bit of an odd bod, it's a fear but I must get a small kick out of it since I do like being exposed to seeing images sometimes, I'm very curious

I have met people who have similar fears (I am a therapist to be fair Grin) so I don’t think its that unusual. I think some people just have a thinking style that takes the ‘what ifs’ far too seriously and thought-action fusion ideas (because I’ve thought it, its more likely).

If its not functionally affecting your day to day life, then just interesting. However if its eg stopping you showering (or swimming on holiday, and you want to be able to) then look up phobia help sites.

dundee12 · 26/08/2018 11:43

And in the case of that image they certainly are “gonna need a bigger boat” 🤣🤣

theunsure · 26/08/2018 11:43

Nope! No shark issues here.
If it were a sparkler though! Shock(Shudders)

Degustibusnonestdisputandem1 · 26/08/2018 11:43

Nope, because not even megalodon was that big....and it's extinct...

ElizabethMainwaring · 26/08/2018 11:45

No, not scary. But what is the pale bit in the middle of its' mouth?

MsOliphant · 26/08/2018 11:45

Megalodon wasn't even as big as a whale shark is today. I think they've just made him a bit of a bitey dick for the film.

0range99 · 26/08/2018 11:47

OH was reading something out loud the other night that 5 times more people are killed by cows than sharks. That might help you put it into perspective a bit.

Frosty6611 · 26/08/2018 11:49

I saw The Meg and it was crap.
That pic doesn’t scare me but only because I know it’s not real. If it were real then i’d be beyond petrified by it. My irrational fear is spiders so any picture of those sets my anxiety off big time
