@ignatiusjreilly

I'm in Ireland. Its bad news, the chocolate has changed here too.

PerverseConverse · 22/08/2018 10:19

Just tried a Montezumas button and I liked it. Good chocolate flavour and feel in the mouth and no bitterness or aftertaste. Buttery too. I'm very tentative about the Love Cocoa now. Surely James would have the original recipe in the family archives for dairy milk and could use it?

WindyWednesday · 22/08/2018 10:22

I was hoping James Cadbury had the secret recipe for dairy milk. Why can’t he use that? Old Cadbury’s chocolate in the purple foil wrapper with the paper sleeve, would be worth a lot.

WindyWednesday · 22/08/2018 10:25

In the email I had from lovecocoa James asks me to “reach out to him” without hesitation. Maybe we should email him to suggest the old dairy milk recipe. He can trade it under a different guise surely. They aren’t using it.

WhatsInAnotherNameChange · 22/08/2018 10:26

It's not as if he's copying the 'mainstream' Cadbury's recipe.

TheSassyAssassin · 22/08/2018 10:29

Got my Love Cocoa order this morn too but was running out the door to get to work so will investigate further tonight...am hoping for good things but the reviews seem a bit mixed on here so far Confused

I think Dairy Milk is nothing like 37% cocoa. More like 25%. If they made a 'family chocolate' bar like that aimed at normal folk instead of the more chocolatier tasting stronger and more bitter ones that are aimed at chocolate connoisseurs, that would be a start.

Jozxyqk · 22/08/2018 10:52

TBH, although I don't think that that the old style DM bar would be my favourite if LC were to produce it, it would probably make them very well known & quickly increase their market share. As long as LC carried on doing what they are, namely proper chocolate without vegetable waxy crap in it, that wouldn't be a problem. TBH, people eat too much chocolate these days - it should be a treat, that's the point. It should be decent quality & priced accordingly, IMHO. But yes, a "family bar" seems perfectly reasonable, as well as the higher % chocolatier style bars.

BackinTimeforTea · 22/08/2018 10:53

yeah it's an obvious loop hole, it's like gourmet milk choc has to be 35-37% cocoa, but there are lots of us happy with a lower but not hersheys or nestle %. I wonder what the cocoa % is in belgian chocs - they're creamy. I'm enjoying this chocolate reverie thread!

BackinTimeforTea · 22/08/2018 10:54

Would lovecocoa be open to lawsuits if they launched 'old' Dairy milk though? I can imagine problems publicising such a product.

Nope the Cadbury recipe is property of the company, not the family.

It would be major copyright fraud for him to use the old recipe, that's if he even had it, which he wouldn't have had. It would be secure in the company archives.

Used to be a lovely company library, that had the original royal approval seal about 3 foot across.

Really sorry to say, the Cadbury taste as we know it has gone. All for the sake of pursuit of profit by an international food conglomerate only seeking share price increase. Sad. Very sad.

INeedNewShoes · 22/08/2018 10:58

Blooming heck knickers you took a gamble buying that amount of something you hadn't tried before!

I wasn't expecting it to be like the old dairy milk as the cocoa content is higher and nowhere does the branding or 'about' section give the impressed that they are trying to bring it back.

I do agree that they could do very well creating a bar that brings back the old dairy milk but I think they probably wouldn't be allowed to make any claims or branding that suggest it was inspired by Cadbury?

BackinTimeforTea · 22/08/2018 11:05

Yes and the current owners of Cadbury brand wouldn’t market an old Cadbury product as presumably they’d have to admit the modern one was rubbish?

I do think love cocoa could do a ‘chocolate of yesteryear’ product - there are 10000 versions of spaghetti Bolognese in recipe books after all.

EllenJanesthickerknickers · 22/08/2018 11:23

It's nice enough, and you got free postage on a £20 order. Wink

PerverseConverse · 22/08/2018 11:27

So far I've compared G&B's blue wrapper milk, Asda's Peruvian milk and Montezumas buttons. The buttons win hands down. Typical that I like the really expensive stuff!

Blushnot the bread GrinSilly me in my excitement I posted the wrong photo 🤣

It's quite warm today so there was no snap when I broke a piece off. Have put in the fridge to see what it's like later. So far though it's chocolatey, creamy, buttery, and has a nice texture and no aftertaste. It's not dairy milk but it's nice. Better than G&B's and the Asda Peruvian. The salted caramel is gorgeous and cross between dairy milk and caramel at a 80:20 ratio imo. Again will put in the fridge and see what it's like later but so far Love Cocoa for the win!

Roxers · 22/08/2018 12:23

It's arrived!!

First impressions, absolutely lovely packaging. And even though the bars are only 80g, they 'feel' as though they're more.

I thought to myself, "I didn't order 7!" I went back and checked my order, and.. I had... Blush

Couldn't help myself and tried some of the milk chocolate. Lovely. Going to put them in the fridge as I think it'd taste even better when chilled.

James - are you on here? Say hello if so! Maybe you could offer an MN discount code for second orders Wink

PasstheStarmix · 22/08/2018 12:45

Anyone tried divine chocolate? If so what’s the verdict. I don’t like hotel chocolate or green and blacks so if similar to that I won’t like it. I prefer cholcolate like ghirardelli

00100001 · 22/08/2018 12:48

starmix

Divine chocolate is really nice - but I find it hard to get hold of, used to be able to get in the local Co-ops, but nor more :(

I like the Divine milk chocolate a lot. You can buy it at Waitrose or online at Ocado.

PasstheStarmix · 22/08/2018 12:50

Thought it had disappeared from the supermarkets. I bet it’s just in places like fenwicks maybe now.

PasstheStarmix · 22/08/2018 12:51

Oh yes and Waitrose

99Probllamas · 22/08/2018 12:53

It's here Smile can't decide which flavour to try first after lunch
