Inspired by a thread about hygiene - carpets in kitchens and toilets, I thought it could be interesting to recall some of the diabolical tat from the past.

These aren't tacky or grim, but I think they deserve to be remembered

The link didn't work

Mind bleach to aisle five, please ....

TornFromTheInside · 15/08/2018 14:05

Those sheets were soooooo soft. As a child they were very comforting.

We had this coffee table:

Oh and a fully functioning bar with optics. There were always parties at our house and my parents were super trendy. Interestingly, my very fashionable hairdresser has filled his salon with lots of these items and in context, they look fantastic. I'd love a radiogram agian.

Anyone mentioned Palaset yet ?

Or Habitat ?

TornFromTheInside · 15/08/2018 14:08

There was a time when the Soviet Space program made microwaves on the side.
Either that, or they had a secret machine for making miniature chickens.

The 'microwave' (without much of the 'micro')

Vitalogy I still have an almost identical clock on my sitting room wall!

This stuff was saved for Xmas - along with the Advocaat

Who had this Tupperware box for their packed lunch?

Seriously tacky and grim...
MooseBeTimeForSummer · 15/08/2018 14:13

Advocaat and lemonade. That’s a “snerball” where I was born!

TornFromTheInside · 15/08/2018 14:14

That wasn't Tupperware.
That was excess stock from Sellafield's Nuclear Waste Disposal Unit.
Sandwiches in such a box could survive 4 weeks, but a Waggon Wheel would last 20 seconds. Strange that.

My mum used to love Snowballs! made one last xmas for nostalgia's sake - they're yum.

Although you might want to to refrain from asking for a Snowball in a pub these days, it now has a different meaning.

@ProgressPenguin I have a hostess trolley and love it! It's fab for Christmas. My nana had one and my mum and now I have some retro too Smile

Vitalogy · 15/08/2018 14:18

I still have an almost identical clock on my sitting room wall! Well done for keeping it! I've just had a look on Ebay to see if they have some, £100 Shock

Vitalogy · 15/08/2018 14:21

My mum used to love Snowballs! made one last xmas for nostalgia's sake - they're yum. Oow, I still get a bottle of Advocaat every Christmas Grin

Spudlet · 15/08/2018 14:21

Oh the swirly whirly carpets! Our house had one, when we first moved back to the UK (I was four or five). I was most put out when it was removed, as I could no longer play games of hopping from swirly blob to swirly blob (blobs of the same kind of course - the other swirly blobs were DEATH).

Does anyone collect commorative plates for royal weddings and babies and things? My grandma still has loads! All mounted on the walls, gurning regally at the occupants of the living room.

And those polystyrene ceiling tiles, that would melt and cause hideous injuries in a fire! Grandma's were all dented from where sparkling wine corks had gone out of control during various family celebrations.

The past was a very flammable place, come to think of it 🤔

FeralBeryl · 15/08/2018 14:26

What a perfect thread Grin
The ceramic door sign was cherished by me as I could never find anything with my name on as a nipper.

Grasslands · 15/08/2018 14:27

DD has requested just last month a macrame plant hanger...

TornFromTheInside · 15/08/2018 14:28

Speaking of flammable!...

She had one of these too - they were probably highly flammable. Silver fake xmas tree which got progressively worse over the years.

macrame

I always though macrame was a French word. Turns out it's Arabic.

(DM used to macrame, lace, crochet, knit, and embroider ...)

goforkyourself · 15/08/2018 14:31

saidtheshark has a point, not about tat but technology.

What will future generations say about our tech now? Will they be ROFL ing about streaming music, films and tv? We laugh and reminisce now about CD players and queuing at Blockbusters on a Saturday night!

TornFromTheInside · 15/08/2018 14:32

Damn, ran out of image uploads!
