Does this drive anyone else mad? More and more recently I'm seeing people write 'his' instead of 'he's' or 'he is'. Why?? For example "His going to the shop soon." It's not interchangeable with them so stop doing it!!

Never seen this in anyone apart from younger children, so on that basis YABU

FissionChips · 11/08/2018 22:16

There used to be a troll on the relationships board who always wrote “his” instead of “he is”. Not spotted them for a while..

starzig · 11/08/2018 22:21

I have never saw this. Could it just be a typo?

Singlenotsingle · 11/08/2018 22:23

No, OP's right. I've seen it too. Poor English? Poor English teachers.

AintNobodyHereButUsChickens · 11/08/2018 22:23

No I see it on Facebook all the time. In young children I would understand but this is all adults!

I see it far too often and from too many different people for it to be a typo.

Yes, I have noticed this recently.

ThisIsNotARealAvo · 11/08/2018 22:32

I know a few people who write this in texts.

Breadsticksandhummus · 11/08/2018 22:34

Yes it does my nut in. People do it in Facebook groups all the time.

See also - "chocking" instead of choking.

MonaLisaSimpson · 11/08/2018 22:35

I know a couple of people who put av instead of I've and it makes me murderous! As in "av been to the shop."

JennyOnAPlate · 11/08/2018 22:37

This is very common round these parts (midlands) and yes it does drive me nuts. The world is full of illiterate idiots.

whatsmynametoday · 11/08/2018 22:37

Not seen this but know a fair few people who use he's when actually it's his. 😡

Saidthesharktotheflyingfish · 11/08/2018 22:38

Have you noticed the loss of 'to'? So people go London or go Birmingham for example?

HotSauceCommittee · 11/08/2018 22:38

Be glad you don’t live in the Bristol area; when someone is lying down, they are “led” down. It does my tits in.

Andthatsthat · 11/08/2018 22:39

I’ve also seen this on fb. I also hate it.

Agree with chocking too! And a dinning room table with a Chester draws!! Angry

Breadsticksandhummus · 11/08/2018 22:41

The thing is with chocking for choking is that I don't even understand how it happens!!

And I do see he's for his a lot to. Eg:

"when I give my baby he's bottle he sometimes chocks on the milk"

AnotherOriginalUsername · 11/08/2018 22:42

I live in the West country so appreciate that there are some heavy accents going on down here but there's no excuse for spelling "turned" as "turnt".

My theory on the matter is that people just aren't reading enough to learn/improve/vary their vocabulary these days. My sister is 10 years younger than I am and the only reading she does outside of studying purposes is (increasingly poorly written) things on various social media platforms.

spiderlight · 11/08/2018 22:43

My DS's friend's mum always puts 'he's' instead of 'his' - she'll even use the correct and incorrect versions in the same sentence: 'He's at he's dad's this weekend'. Irritates me no end!

DameSquashalot · 11/08/2018 22:51

I've seen it lots, but assumed it was autocorrect. Like people using 'women' when they're talking about one person.

missmouse101 · 11/08/2018 22:56

OMG, yes! Also the fuckwits who write could of or should of.....It's 'HAVE' FFS.

spanishwife · 11/08/2018 22:58

Ugh these kind of stupid grammar errors are by pet peeve. Also:

"He was been" = he was being
I brought it from the shop... when they mean "bought" (otherwise that would be stealing)

I have friends from the west midlands who use "we was" or "I weren't"... Wonder if this is a dialect thing because they are both very intelligent with degrees and proper jobs! They must know!

Various incorrect uses of their and your should be a criminal offence also.

ColinsVeryJolly · 11/08/2018 22:59

The one that gets me is ‘been’ instead of being. Angry

Babdoc · 11/08/2018 23:01

The two that annoy me are “loose” used in place of “lose” - eg “I might loose my job” and “of” used instead of ”have ” - eg “I could of gone”. Both seem to be increasing online, even on MN.

kinseymilhone · 11/08/2018 23:03

"For sell" on Facebook selling groups is the one that drives me up the wall. I cannot abide it! It's "For sale" you fucking fuckwits!!!!

AintNobodyHereButUsChickens · 11/08/2018 23:04

Actually I think the worst one I've seen was a screenshot my friend sent me of a sofa for freein her local Facebook selling group.

"Sofa free, needs a clean because the kids drowned on it" Shock We assume she meant drawn, but still....

What really boils my piss is the use of were instead of we’ll. As in “were have to go out soon, hun”

Wtaf? Hmm
