Does this drive anyone else mad? More and more recently I'm seeing people write 'his' instead of 'he's' or 'he is'. Why?? For example "His going to the shop soon." It's not interchangeable with them so stop doing it!!

😂 yo tikis
I like that

People who complain about grammar Nazis or pedants are more intolerant than the people they criticise.

If you can’t be bothered to take enough care to spell and punctuate properly don’t impose your insecurities - and frightened bad temper - on others.

I despise apologists for laziness and stupidity.

My pet hates:

The you you're your errors
Oh and I'm with you on his.

It's not the grammar police. More a general hatred of the dumbing down of society 🙄😂

LookImAHooman · 12/08/2018 19:48

‘Lay’ used mistakenly in place of ‘lie’ is absolutely rife these days and makes me want to punch someone. It’s like nails on a chalkboard. DH does it so does seemingly everyone now and I’m determined the DC won’t.

Also, ‘everyday’ instead of ‘every day’. THEY HAVE TWO DISTINCT MEANINGS.

MikeUniformMike · 12/08/2018 19:48

I of scene lot's of SPaG errors on MN

Mike I demand your address immediately so I can dish out a suitable punishment for A. Making me so angry and B. Making me laugh too much 😂

MikeUniformMike · 12/08/2018 20:06

I wandered instead of wondered

My son wrote the plot of Titanic as a book when he was younger. Jack and Rose spent a lot of time "wondering" around the ship Grin first alone and then together.
As he was only about 6/7 I forgave him his errors and we laugh about it now Grin

LithaFest · 12/08/2018 20:53

Someone on Facebook posts "carnt" and "wornt".

Otterseatpuffinsdontthey · 12/08/2018 20:55

Conversational Italian evening class (many years ago).
"I wandered over the pizza"
Doubt if I was the first, or last, to write that Grin

WhatsYourFuckingProblem · 12/08/2018 21:53

The apostrophes, they give me the rage. They are everywhere. I even stealthily wiped a misplaced one off a chalk sign not so long ago.
In M&S this afternoon saw some meat, on the packet it said ‘great for BBQ’s’
Great for BBQ’s what?? Hmmm?? What belongs to the BBQS?!!
I nearly picked the pack up to show a staff member but I was worried they would think me unhinged.
It’s on their website too- Sparks FAQ’s.
NO, NO, NO.

my3bears · 12/08/2018 21:57

@NewtScamandersNaughtyNiffler children are always forgiven! Fully grown adults should not be 😂

@AintNobodyHereButUsChickens great post thank you!

MarklahMarklah · 12/08/2018 22:09

Yes, I used to know someone who wrote it on FB all the time. She also used to write "should of", "Av been too the shops", "It's to hot today" and "I feel sick aswell". I've unfriended her (not for this but I'm glad to not see it on my feed any more).

Plural · 12/08/2018 22:41

@Saidthesharktotheflyingfish the loss of 'to' is one of my biggest pet hates. I even made a whole thread about it on here one time

You'll appreciate this

alot instead of a lot. Why, just why?

For all that people get stroppy about grammar pedants, I do think that not bothering to make your posts reasonably comprehensible is really quite rude. And really, if someone can't be bothered to do that, why should others bother to try to work out what they are trying to say?

Jux · 13/08/2018 00:19

His going to the shop precipitated events......

AintNobodyHereButUsChickens · 13/08/2018 07:00

Alot always makes me think of this.

@WhatsYourFuckingProblem yes to the inappropriate apostrophes! I give my class house points for photo evidence of misused apostrophes to reinforce the importance of not misusing them (example seen in Worcester attached).
I experience a grammar shudder every time I see signs advertising "MOT's".
I sometimes contemplate offering my free proof reading services to sign writers.

It's 'he is' or 'he's' not fucking HIS!!
