It's 'he is' or 'he's' not fucking HIS!!

Does this drive anyone else mad? More and more recently I'm seeing people write 'his' instead of 'he's' or 'he is'. Why?? For example "His going to the shop soon." It's not interchangeable with them so stop doing it!!

OP posts:
spanishwife · 11/08/2018 23:14

Wow bell never seen that before! I would honestly have to ask them what they meant

I feel such an urge to correct my friends but I can't!! Has anyone ever done this and made it out alive?

IamEarthymama · 11/08/2018 23:18

I haven't read the thread, sorry, my bugbear is
"Needs"!
Baby needs fed. Baby needs to be fed
Item needs gone. Item needs to be taken soon

Makes me queasy, needs gone from the vocabulary of written English.
😉😊

sachabloom · 11/08/2018 23:23

My SIL does it and I don't know why but it really grinds my gears!! "His so cute" HE IS

princesstiasmum · 11/08/2018 23:23

My daughter in law from Middlesborough, tends to say he is having he:s dinner.instead of his, etc
I think certain areas have a certain way of saying things, annoys me to death though,

princesstiasmum · 11/08/2018 23:27

Also, were instead of where are you, and defiantly instead of definitely,
Oh i could go on, wiv, instead of with, a 35 year old man said this in a message to me, cant bear reading these things,
Sorry, i know i sound like the grammar police, but have ti grit my teeth

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 11/08/2018 23:34

No I haven't seen that OP. But am going instead of I'm going drives me a bit mad.

EBearhug · 11/08/2018 23:40

^Baby needs fed. Baby needsto befed
Item needs gone. Item needsto be taken soon^

That's a regional thing - Scottish friends say the former, those of us down south go for the latter. Not sure where the dividing line is.

ClemDanfango · 11/08/2018 23:42

Some gems from fbooky I’ve seen far too often;

“Your be ok” instead “you’ll”
“Orderpends” instead of “all depends”
“angles” instead of “angels”
“Enywun”-anyone

There’s lots more but dis iz damiging my brane.

ImNotWhoYouThinkIam · 11/08/2018 23:46

I haven't seen his used for he's luckily but my ex DPs wife says "are" (or even worse "R") when she means I will or I'll Confused.
At least I can tell when it's her texting me pretending to be him!

Anonnymouse54321 · 11/08/2018 23:56

I agree OP. I honestly think literacy levels are in massive decline. It's shocking really. Of instead of have or 've is my massive bugbear, and nearly everyone I know does it. The wrong your/you're and their/there/they're is common too (as it the wrong to/too).

I've noticed it more on MN lately and it really bugs me. Someone who is clearly dyslexic is different, as a friend of mine is, but there are some people who just come across as poorly educated. It's why I steer clear of places like Nethuns as I can't stand the way they 'talk.'

applesauce1 · 12/08/2018 00:06

I'm seeing an increase of the he's his misuse.

Two things that really irritate the pedant in me include people using then instead of than. I have to really reread those sentences to understand what people are trying to say.

The other is "I was sat" instead of "I was sitting". I teach the past progressive tense as part of the year 2 curriculum and it's really drawn my attention to how many people get this wrong. Also, "I was stood" instead of "I was standing".
I need to let go and get a life.

RandomMess · 12/08/2018 00:12

Very common where I live is "youse" instead of you...

Apileofballyhoo · 12/08/2018 00:15

Apostrophe s seems to be used all the time now for describing a decade. So it's now constantly "The 80's" (Eighty's) rather than The 80s (Eighties).

OkPedro · 12/08/2018 00:27

I'm on a fb group and some of the members drive me insane
The other day " anyone know how to sat wall paper easier than snapping"
I wasn't being an arsehole getting annoyed because someone misspelled what they were saying
I really didn't have a clue what she was asking!
She had 10 replies in minutes saying "oh I use a steamer to remove wall paper"
What?!

There's an Irish accent that pronounces his as he's so
"He's mother worked locally"
Arrgh it makes my skin crawl

Guienne · 12/08/2018 06:42

I find it difficult to understand how people go through 11 years of compulsory education without understanding the difference between he's and his, or that "could of" is a complete no-no. In general I'm not keen on the current over-emphasis on grammar in schools, but if it stamps this sort of thing out maybe it's not such a bad idea.

DameSquashalot · 12/08/2018 07:01

People on Facebook mum groups and on here always talk about Aptimal when they mean Aptamil. I can't understand why so many people do it.

Broken11Girl · 12/08/2018 07:32

So glad I found this thread. Bad grammar genuinely pains me.
I can excuse people with learning disabilities, and those who genuinely have low ability, or had a severely chaotic upbringing. Often though it's just laziness.

QOD · 12/08/2018 08:00

The one that makes me stabby is for eg

‘Are little boy is growing up so fast’

ARE?....!

dustarr73 · 12/08/2018 08:04

Mine is Anal. Its used instead of and all.
Wjy og why

Pompom42 · 12/08/2018 08:26

I work with someone who spells Phoebe wrong every single day. Pheobe and every day we speak about it and the next day she does it again.

LongSummerDays · 12/08/2018 08:32

Tobeing used when they mean too.

It's even been used on this thread!

LongSummerDays · 12/08/2018 08:36

Ah the mandatory typo in a post - missed a space! Grin

PivotPivotPIVOTTT · 12/08/2018 08:40

Yes! This drives me mad when I read it I see it a lot on here. There was a thread yesterday where it kept being used but no one seemed to mention it so thought I must be the only one who gets pissed of by it. Grammar and spelling mistakes don't really annoy me too much but this one really does for some reason.

DwangelaForever · 12/08/2018 08:49

Haven't seen that but I have seen the opposite he's wrote and pronounced instead of his SadSadAngry my cousin is a big user of it IRL and online and it really irritates me!

DwangelaForever · 12/08/2018 08:51

@OkPedro we are from Belfast and my cousin does this it makes my skin crawl so much!
