New Talk Topic - Is this nice?

sandymumsnet · 22/03/2018 16:55

Hello all

We’ve noticed that ‘Is this nice?’ has been a pretty regular question on the boards in recent years - that is, MNers asking their fellow MNers for an unswervingly honest opinion on everything from jeans to ‘brave’ haircuts, from F&B paint colours to kitchen worktops, from tattoos to WTAF crisp flavours.

The advice, recommendations, and occasional ‘are you utterly bonkers?’ responses are generally brilliant, so we thought we’d give “Is this nice?” a proper home.

All you need to do is post a pic or link to whatever you would like advice on, cross your fingers, and wait for feedback.

As ever, we’re giving this a bash to see how it goes, so do let us know what you think!

We even have a home decoration section as well as this and property/diy. I won’t know where to post! Maybe all 3?

To be honest I think a topic solely dedicated to CF’s would be much better. Much of AIBU is made up of ‘is she/he being a CF?’ And I think having a topic of its own would be really popular.

Bluffinwithmymuffin · 23/03/2018 18:50

Good idea, but don’t call it “is this nice?”
As pp said, yay or nay.. ming or bling, etc (posh or tosh.... class or arse.... whoo or poo....)

AlpacaLypse · 23/03/2018 18:54

The best thing that could happen to AIBU would be to auto delete all threads there when 30 minutes have passed since anyone last posted, unless they've made the grade for Classics. Might persuade some of the more asinine thread starters to look for the right topic first.

AlpacaLypse · 23/03/2018 18:56

And yy 'Is this nice?' is very Meh. What about 'Does my bum look big in this and other questions I'd rather not ask my RL friends'?

Bluffinwithmymuffin · 23/03/2018 18:58

..... Hot or Not....Yeah or Meh... (pours second glass... Wine)

ReversingSnail · 23/03/2018 19:31

I prefer "Is this nice?" in plain English to some of the fancy alternatives which are ohsoMN but a little try hard IMHO. I don't say "yay" or "nay" IRL. What's wrong with "Yes or no?" or "Do you like this?"

Bluffinwithmymuffin · 23/03/2018 19:40

Or maybe Stop and Go with traffic light emoticons- red, green or amber if you’re sitting on the fence and can give reasons

Zaphodsotherhead · 23/03/2018 19:52

Well, I for one have hoiked my bosoms and pulled up my judgey pants in readiness...bring it on (whatever it's called).

ILostItInTheEarlyNineties · 23/03/2018 20:16

Yeah I think it needs a different name. I like Minging or Blinging? Rock this or Drop this? Is it a No from you?

What about a IABR! (I am being reasonable!) topic for all those posters who think they're being reasonable and woe betide anyone who begs to differ. Grin

lucysmam · 23/03/2018 21:45

@BitOfFun it was worth clicking and reading just for the puppy picture! He's lovely :)

Bexter801 · 24/03/2018 00:52

ReversingSnail · 24/03/2018 02:04

GYJPO is a great idea 😄

borntobequiet · 24/03/2018 08:19

Nice idea. Or is it?

QuilliamCakespeare · 24/03/2018 08:23

Pleeeeeeeeease rethink on the Stationary Cupboard. Me and @FloatyFlo need a place to geek out about fountain pens.

ReversingSnail · 24/03/2018 08:31

GYJPO is a great idea 😄

Inspired by vision of Zapho hoisting her bosom and hitching her JPs up

KateMumsnet · 24/03/2018 11:12

I agree GYJPO (or GYM(for massive)JPO) is excellent. The only thing is, we're trying to move towards straightforward topic titles so that things aren't confusing/a bit intimidating for newbies.

'What do you think of this? is easy to understand but loses 'nice' which seems to be making ppl wince a bit - what do we think?

Alpaca ‘s suggestion “does my bum look big in this?” is a straight question and easy to understand, even if not all posts would be about bums looking big- although some would. The does my bum look big question is so ingrained now, I don’t think using it as a topic heading would confuse anyone. But that could just be me, in which case, what do you think of this or how about this, or something along those lines, is probably best. Sadly.

DannyLaRuesBestFrock · 24/03/2018 15:09

I am a fan of 'Does my bum look big in this?'

It does what is says on the tin and doesn't sound twee.

AlpacaLypse · 24/03/2018 16:14

Of course Style and Beauty could be renamed 'Does My Bum Look Big In This'? only half joking
