New Talk Topic - Is this nice?

Hello all

We’ve noticed that ‘Is this nice?’ has been a pretty regular question on the boards in recent years - that is, MNers asking their fellow MNers for an unswervingly honest opinion on everything from jeans to ‘brave’ haircuts, from F&B paint colours to kitchen worktops, from tattoos to WTAF crisp flavours.

The advice, recommendations, and occasional ‘are you utterly bonkers?’ responses are generally brilliant, so we thought we’d give “Is this nice?” a proper home.

All you need to do is post a pic or link to whatever you would like advice on, cross your fingers, and wait for feedback.

As ever, we’re giving this a bash to see how it goes, so do let us know what you think!

Can posters use it to share pics of vile FB tat? I lufffs those threads!

BettyBooJustDoinTheDoo · 22/03/2018 20:19

Rubbish idea, if I want someone’s opinion on fashion I will go to style and beauty, opinions on a kitchen worktop or a house I’m interested in I will go to property, as a pp said it will just dilute the original topic. Totally pointless.

tiddlyipom · 22/03/2018 20:27

I think it's a bit daft really, there are way too many unused topics on here already. Maybe cull some of those first.

JudgeRulesNutterButter · 22/03/2018 20:34

^ What Annie said.

Haffdonga · 22/03/2018 20:38

Sounds like a slightly exploitative marketing ploy to me.

Get MNers to review products (unpaid).
Go to merchandiser and say Look .All these people are advertising discussing your product on our site.
Ask merchandiser to pay £££ for putting up a few adverts which will then be claimed to be rated by MNers.

To bump trade no doubt random products will be debated and endorsed by previously never heard of posters.

It has so much potential.

Is this nice?
No it's fucking awful!

I think you know in your hearts of hearts that you can't rely on Mumsnetters to mind their manners and there would be a lot of genuine hurt and upset and so, regretfully, I'd say this is an absolutely awful idea.

It sounds so 'nice' but it'll end up a bun fight.

Maybe.

TroubledTribble28 · 22/03/2018 21:06

I think this a good idea for people’s eyebrows alone. If everyone posted their eyebrows on ‘is this nice?’ then that can only be a good thing.

I have had the shit frightened out of me with women’s eyebrows over the last few years. They turn around suddenly and I get so shocked but yet I can’t say anything.

ScreamingValenta · 22/03/2018 21:14

I think it's nice, Tribble Smile.

SmileyBird · 22/03/2018 21:53

Ming or Bling?

KateMumsnet · 22/03/2018 21:54

Hello all
It's true that we do have a few topics which are a little, um, sparse currently, and actually we're planning a clearout very soon. Just got to wait for a few other things to be done and then boom - they're gone.

We were thinking that this might do quite well because unlike in AIBU or chat it's very clear on Active what these threads will be about. But as we said, we'll keep a close eye and if it's it's a bit sad and lonely then we'll just quietly retire the poor wee thing.

Grin You're not wrong 3luckystars. We're performing a service for humanity here. I'm actually very tempted to start the first thread with my own worrying eyebrows in your honour.

I thought it was going to be about etiquette

KateMumsnet · 22/03/2018 21:56

@SmileyBird

Ming or Bling?

Arf wanna job Smiley?

musicposy · 22/03/2018 21:56

I wouldn't wear it myself, Tribble Grin but it's a nice piece of crochet. I can only really make granny squares.

TroubledTribble28 · 22/03/2018 22:10

Ty screaming.
There's excellent variety in a granny square Posy !

Neganforever · 22/03/2018 22:14

@3luckystars I have to confess your eyebrow post made me laugh for a good 5 mins, brilliant Grin

Neganforever · 22/03/2018 22:15

Something about the title "Is this nice?" makes me want to swear like a sailor in a reply. Am I normal?

PerfectlySymmetricalButtocks · 22/03/2018 22:19

CTK's eggs would definitely have been in there.

PerfectlySymmetricalButtocks · 22/03/2018 22:20

It's bloody marvellous Tribble.

SmileyBird · 22/03/2018 22:31

Gawd, imagine being paid to mumsnet all day. Be bloody brill wouldn’t it?

TroubledTribble28 · 22/03/2018 22:39

Ty Perfectly !

TheClaws · 23/03/2018 00:27

I have to say the word ‘nice’ is so plain and well - boring. Aren’t kids told never to use ‘nice’ when there are so many other words that could fill the gap? I know you need to cover all kinds of things, making it trickier, though. So I’d avoid the ‘nice’ question altogether and ask:

“What do you think of this?’
