Neighbour drove across my garden!!!

Pez82 · 22/02/2017 13:03

Last night I came home to find a car parked just outside my house below my neighbour's windows - now, not only this isn't not a parking space but the neighbour has driven through 3 different front gardens to get there!!!! WTF??!! (There are deep tyre marks on the lawn as a result 😖)

I'm attaching an homemade diagram to show how ludicrous the situation is. The yellow square is the current car's position and the yellow line the path taken!!! The green lines show my property as well as the invisible boundary on my front lawn. The driveways on the picture are slanted and once all cars are parked in their respective driveways (like they were this morning), there is no way out!!!

I've left an angry note on the windscreen but as the car has been covered in tarpaulin it looks like it could be there for a while!

So what do I do??? Build a wall/fence so it can never get out?? 😬

Itsnice, this is exactly what happened! Got stuck and then after so much damage still went across 3 different lawns!!!

No respect whatsoever, which makes me think that they will have no problem driving across shrubs to get out...

Red bug, pyracantha I have been trying to get rid of in my back garden for a year now! It was a massive tree when I moved in and had even grown through the fences, destroying the concrete posts!! The thorns go through any good shoe sole.

I checked on DVLA website last night and the car is taxed until June, MOT valid until Dec so I really don't get it.

My note was gone this morning (it is very windy but it was stuck under wipers so can only assume it's been read)
Will knock on the door tonight and tell them to their face how unimpressed I am

I'm also creating flowerbeds this weekend, keeping the receipts and will get refunded if there is more damage as the 'convertible' neighbour is recording everything on cctv.

If still there by Saturday I'm also calling the local police to report trespassing.

Etiquette!!! Who'd 'ave thunk it?!!!

SpaceDuck · 23/02/2017 10:36

Sorry to put a downer on the thread OP, but I highly doubt the police will bother doing anything about this.

Trespass to land is a civil matter and the police have no powers.

www.askthe.police.uk/content/Q56.htm

If the car is parked on private land then you must take reasonable steps to locate the owner and tell them to move the car. Give them a date and time limit and tell them if it's not moved by them, then you will be removing it yourself. You can then legally remove the vehicle from your land as long as you do not cause any damage to the vehicle.

Ha ha ha ha ha ha pez. Awesome thread. Not awesome what the twit of a daughter did. I second the moat. The gnomes would be awesome, but you need something they can't move! Lol. I'm sure the plants will look lovely. Make sure to take lots of pictures after planting in case they try to drive over them. Stupid neighbours.

shouldwestayorshouldwego · 23/02/2017 18:21

Pops in hopefully for an update.

Pez82 · 23/02/2017 20:13

So the update is:

Bought £80 worth of plants at Homebase along with bags of compost. Planning to start building the raised flower bed on Saturday but I'm slightly reluctant to plant until the car is out in case they destroy everything. I need to see how much height I can get first - luckily have got lots of old bricks and rocks and will also use edging so basically any car driving over could result in quite a lot of damage to their car.
So basically I'm blocking the way without risking damage to the plants Smile

I knocked on their door tonight as I could see light in one of the bedrooms but no one answered the door. Will try again tomorrow and the day after and will pester until someone answers!!!

I'll also put another angry note on the windscreen tomorrow morning Angry

I don't really know what else I can do???

NatalieRushman · 23/02/2017 21:48

Goodness, hand drawn diagrams have become phone drawn diagrams whicheck have now become satellite photos with diagrams overlaid! How modern. And someone mn hq should issue a psa about this whole "parking issues in etiquette" thing.

ChardonnayKnickertonSmythe · 23/02/2017 21:48

Maybe they didn't answer because there's a body in the boot?

Give it a sniff tomorrow, OP.

shouldwestayorshouldwego · 23/02/2017 23:24

You could write on your note to Mr TarpTwit saying that landscaping in your garden is starting on Saturday and after that it will not be possible to have access through your garden. Although it would be more fun to just do it and see the reaction.

Bricks sound good. Can we still not convince you with a pond? You could have penguin bollards too and go for an Antarctic theme or at least a zoo theme. Mr Convertable sounds as if he might be willing to help with the pond thing. Do you know the other neighbour.

RedBugMug · 24/02/2017 07:24

after that it will not be possible to have access through your garden. Although it would be more fun to just do

noooo, neighbour already doesn't have access to drive through the garden

shouldwestayorshouldwego · 24/02/2017 07:31

But realistically if there is no other way out at least this means the car has to move today. Access was perhaps the wrong term. OP is there any other route for them to move the car? It depends what you want to achieve.

Pez82 · 24/02/2017 08:37

Well I've been thinking about it and realistically there would be a way out without destroying my new flower bed.
She would have to very kindly ask the neighbour whose car she's clipped (and who's got recording of her doing so on cctv** Grin) to move his car out of the driveway (it is parked until a tarpaulin as he only used it occasionally).
Then she could go across but it would require a fair amount of manoeuvring and possibly another neighbour involved (the 3rd garden trespassed) to agree this too. And she would need me to agree crossing the end of my garden again...

The only other option is a crane!!

So I'm not putting any further note or trying to get their attention anymore. In other words, screw them!
Can't wait to get the digging spade out tomorrow!!!!

OP posts:
RedBugMug · 24/02/2017 09:08

I prefer the crane option!

SoupDragon · 24/02/2017 09:20

You can make a fairly good fake boulder with expanding foam covered in cement. They look solid but are really light.

SoupDragon · 24/02/2017 09:26

(That's was absolutly not a placemark)

paraMN · 24/02/2017 09:27

Did you find out why the car driver did that? Hopi g you can get them to st least apologise!

WonderMike · 24/02/2017 09:41

Get digging quickly. Imagine what an anti-climax it'd be if they move the car today Grin

dowhatnow · 24/02/2017 09:41

Just throwing in a huge boulder for you so that I can mark my place.

Pez82 · 24/02/2017 09:43

I don't think people who can do something so disrespectful have an inkling of what apologising means...

I guess if I'm spending most of my afternoon gardening I'll see the neighbours coming out/in of their house at some point at which point confrontation will be inevitable!!

A big part of me wants them to be stuck and struggle Grin

Garnethair · 24/02/2017 10:12

I do like your style Pez. Smile

shouldwestayorshouldwego · 24/02/2017 10:33

So I'm not putting any further note or trying to get their attention anymore. In other words, screw them!

That's the spirit! Looking forward to more updates!!

RedBugMug · 24/02/2017 10:44

you need a sitting area & deckchair to comfortably view the action when the car gets craned out removed.

blueskyinmarch · 24/02/2017 10:52

I like this parking thread it has quite a different slant to most other ones. Usually the OP is blocked in but in this one the OP is going to do the blocking in. Kudos OP. Get digging!

loveka · 24/02/2017 10:59

Just a warning.

My neighbour destroyed my garden causing 300 pounds worth of damage.

He refused to pay up.

He then did it AGAIN after I had replanted.

He stll refuses to pay.

My solicitor says don't pursue it as we will have to declare the dispute when we move.

The law really is an ass.
