Neighbour drove across my garden!!!

Pez82 · 22/02/2017 13:03

Last night I came home to find a car parked just outside my house below my neighbour's windows - now, not only this isn't not a parking space but the neighbour has driven through 3 different front gardens to get there!!!! WTF??!! (There are deep tyre marks on the lawn as a result 😖)

I'm attaching an homemade diagram to show how ludicrous the situation is. The yellow square is the current car's position and the yellow line the path taken!!! The green lines show my property as well as the invisible boundary on my front lawn. The driveways on the picture are slanted and once all cars are parked in their respective driveways (like they were this morning), there is no way out!!!

I've left an angry note on the windscreen but as the car has been covered in tarpaulin it looks like it could be there for a while!

So what do I do??? Build a wall/fence so it can never get out?? 😬

as to how neighbour gets the car out?
not pez's circus not pez's monkeys...

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 22/02/2017 21:21

Surely since this is in etiquette, we need to know did you use proper Basildon Bond notepaper, envelope and a fountain pen to write the note?

MaryPoppinsPenguins · 22/02/2017 21:29

As much as I'd be scheming a way to block them in forevermore... do you actually want the car there forevermore? !

I think I'd ask them how they're planning to remove the car.

IhatchedaSnorlax · 22/02/2017 21:32

Can you not knock on their door & tell them to move it?

Pez82 · 22/02/2017 21:33

A rockery is not a bad idea but I had no plan on doing any big landscaping work this year (as planning a back extension first)

I'm definitely doing something though even if it wasn't on this year's list! I looked into these picket fences as they look quite cute but do come at a cost. Now that the neighbour and I have teamed up we'll come up with great plans I'm sure! He laughed when I mentioned the pond idea Grin

This is actually taken in London so no big trees I'm afraid...

Now, the reason why this thread is in Etiquette: I couldn't find the famous parking topic in the list so I thought this could fall under 'living together' or 'neighbour's' etiquette Smile. I nearly posted in 'ethical living'

Ha ha Pez there is no actual Parking topic. Although if it was it would be busier than Ethical Living.

FruitCider · 22/02/2017 21:44

Jesus that's the worst parking I've seen in my life!

JohnnyDeppsfuturewife · 22/02/2017 22:42

I like it in Etiquette, it feels like a secret (even though it was trending earlier.)

If this was in AIBU or chat it would have 800 comments by now and Dc and dh wouldn't have been fed tonight.

HopingForALittleOne · 22/02/2017 22:51

pez great diagram and what a plonker!

Love the ideas suggested and that your neighbour on board.
Defo loving feed the 🐦 🐦

LowDudgeon · 23/02/2017 00:21

Why isn't there a parking topic? There really should be!

I love it when MNers with a parking problem have a lovely neighbour to help with sorting it out Wink (& I do hope Jenny & Miss Jolly are ok)

HappyFlappy · 23/02/2017 04:08

I do hope Jenny & Miss Jolly are ok

They're probably Saving The Planet, Ending World Hunger and Bringing Peace To The Volatile Middle East.

(If only it was as easy as going to world leaders and telling them what's what, ending with a resounding "Now Bugger Off! Good Day To You!"

)

CatchingBabies · 23/02/2017 04:48

If they were happy enough to drive across your lawn I would have thought they would just drive across any plants as well. You need a more sturdy barirer. Perhaps a low fence?

Tigerstar123 · 23/02/2017 05:03

Hoping all works out for you and the shrubs!

ItsNiceItsDifferentItsUnusual · 23/02/2017 05:33

Honestly, what are people thinking? Shock

Also can't believe they didn't bother themselves to own up to neighbour about denting his car.

On the other hand, I would have paid good money to watch the performance that consisted of trying to drive up a narrow path; getting stuck; banging neighbours car; having to get the planks put; before finally thinking 'fuck it' and just hooning it across 3 gardens.

UterusUterusGhali · 23/02/2017 06:14

I'm trying to think of the best quick-growing shrub. Budleia? (Sp?) you can get them in poundland at the mo.
They're tenacious buggers though.

shouldwestayorshouldwego · 23/02/2017 06:55

Great photo, love the pond idea, I think substantial physical barriers are called for otherwise they will just knock them over.

The thing you are missing from your thread though is names. We need you to come up with names of all the key characters e.g. Mr Convertable, MrTarpTwit etc.

shouldwestayorshouldwego · 23/02/2017 07:04

Actually I think etiquette is a good place because threads last longer here, maybe we should put all parking threads here.

Should clarify we don't want their actual names obviously just nicknames.

Kirstyinnorway · 23/02/2017 07:17

Just to be the doom-and-gloom merchant (sorry)... be careful you don't plant shrubs/plants and they then drive over those too! They obviously have no care for your property/lawn and if they believe the car is trapped, they might just ram it over anything you buy and plant. A little wall (just couple of layers of bricks) behind or in front of the shrubs would form a more impenetrable barrier.

The behaviour in the past (gouges in the path) suggest they don't mind bashing the car, and maybe wouldn't think twice about a plant barrier on your lawn.

rainbowstardrops · 23/02/2017 07:19

I'm loving the moat idea! Grin

Garnethair · 23/02/2017 07:29

This is the gold standard of diagrams. Good work OP. Get those shrubs in quick so that car can never leave.

disappearingfish · 23/02/2017 07:35

If you are having a moat make sure you have a duck island, on expenses of course.

RedBugMug · 23/02/2017 07:36

pyracantha so thorny no sane person would walk or drive through it.

Sleeplessinmybedroom · 23/02/2017 07:45

I can't believe the cheek of some people. Don't let them back out.

Latenightreader · 23/02/2017 07:52

I like the idea of gnomes arranged in an intricate pattern, spelling out a few choice words perhaps? Or maybe a waterslide! I saw an article about a family who bought one from a closing leisure centre and put it (flat) in their back field. Could you install a shorter version?

JeNeSuisPasVotreMiel · 23/02/2017 08:29

Another vote here for the Etiquette topic becoming the home of all future parking threads.
