Well (pegs out johnnys school jumper, peers over fence), the BG is an actress who has a child that was conceived while she was having an affair with him during the filming of her Oscar winning film. To hide this, an ambitious member of crew was encouraged to have a relationship with her and they are now married and his name is on birth certificate.

I know he has a lot of female fans, but he's really not my type so I struggle to see Tim's appeal and whilst I hate to both drag down the tone of the thread and show myself up a bit, Calvin Harris snapchatted a short video of himself from his bed this morning, once I'd recovered after watching way more times than a near middle-aged married mother should all I could think of is who in their right mind would walk away from waking up to that each morning.

I am interested in how micro-managed celebrities are in their real-life and I always wonder how things play out with PR/press - whether they literally sit down and have a meeting to plan everything. But it's just idle curiosity and I don't really want to get sucked into tumblr/something that's not really real, if that makes sense. So that is why I like this thread. Overinfested, in a way (taken from TA thread, sorry Boop) but i think everyone here has lives and no-one is deranged.

Donatella I think Tim's appeal is his ability to make his target demographic (mid/late 20's+ women) think they have an actual chance. Holding out for Real Love, out and proud feminist with a hint of self-deprecation but not too much...much like BC it is the accessible angle. BC was single for too long and I think it's probably gone horribly wrong fanatic-wise, so Tim is wiser in getting together? with a higher profile lovely persona.

Yeah the celebrity/ press relationship is fascinating, especially as they now have so many platforms on which to share themselves. Taylor is very interesting in this context because SM has been such a vital part of her whole promotion strategy and because of how successful she's been. Add her confessional songwriting into the mix and many of her fans think that they really know her.

Maybe I'll write my next PhD on that subject, on which note.......

TomH in my previous career I sometimes worked with celebs (none as famous as TayTo). Most photos were planned either by using your own photographer and then sending the shots round the media or sending out an embargoed photo shoot notice with a time and place for pics. For celebs working with charities, for example, then there will be emails/teleconferences/sit down meetings to plan when and how they run campaigns, give quotes, get pics taken. The more famous they are, the more people are in the chain. They'll usually have favoured journalists that they go to first if they have a breaking story and the PRs will have regular meetings/lunches with the important media to schedule in stories. A lot of the stuff that looks impromptu is actually scheduled work for the celebs.

I would never have guessed that any of the photos of taytos world tour were scheduled. Oh no!

It reminds me how I should be much more sceptical. Sometimes I think "oh I like that person" and really it's probably they've got good PR and I don't really know them and should focus on things that are real, not manufactured to sell stuff. And then I lighten up.

When they appear o chat shows and people rave about how lovely they are etc etc. They're actors! If they can't convincingly pretend to be a humble and kind person then they don't really deserve the job!

TomH I still get sucked in too! I worked on a woman's magazine for a while and for about 3 years after it I never bought another magazine because I couldn't snap out of work mode so instead of thinking 'ooh juicy gossip or exciting new product' I'd go 'press release; product placement; make up company with the best PR freebies; clothing company that takes Fashion Editors to Egypt for the week on a jolly, etc'

I read it all with a happy suspension of disbelief now

am sat watching the lovely Calvin Harris at T in the Park. how can you go from Calvin to Tim? Perhaps Calvin had too many shoes and jackets and was not prepared to be a TayBot.

To be marginally serious for a moment and probably stating the obvious, given Tay is the biggest pop star there is, and Tim's filming schedule will be dependent on god-know-how-many-people, this world tour must be a) work and b) scheduled in massively in advance ie way before Tay stopped being papped snogging Calvin Harris. So what on earth is in it for Calvin? Unless (conspiracy alert) she's actually still with Calvin - I sort of got to believing there was a genuine relationship there despite the yacht/piggyback/snogging pictures.

With the sleb personae I wonder how much social media affects that - I'm sure that mgt control official twitters in some cases, but I'd be surprised that the slebs didn't even have access - if Azaelia Bank's PR controlled her twitter presumably they'd have stopped her tweeting 6 hours of homophibic racist shite to Zayn. So I do think at least some of what we see is sort-of-real - of course, it's only what the sleb wants us to see at that point, but it's not going to be possible to be as micromanaged as regular media appearances or pap walks, I don't think.
