Sigmund is available for appointments.

HarrysCuddlyChristmasJumper · 08/12/2011 23:38

I'm following you to bed, Vampy. I hope the weekend is as happy as it can be if I don't catch you before you go.

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 08/12/2011 23:48

Thor Heyerdahl was a Norwegian explorer who used to sail around the world on reconstructions of ancient ships.

All is well with me, although my mind is still boggling at the thought of being bought a lacy maternity thong by one's mother in law. This is my preferred style of underwear.

HarrysCuddlyChristmasJumper · 08/12/2011 23:53

Please say you just googled him and didn't know that off the top of your head, Maud.

Lovely undercrackers there - it's a good job MrT has such long, dexterous fingers with all those buttons though.

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 09/12/2011 00:00

::Pauses en route to the boo-dwarr::

Err, I did know all that because some of his later expeditions attracted a lot of TV coverage when I was young and he was really very famous at the time. I admit, though, that until I found the wiki page I had thought he was Danish rather than Norwegian.

::Realises she has just made herself sound 305 years old::

The amount of trivia I carry around in my head means I have rarely been on a losing quiz team.

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 09/12/2011 00:02

Long and dextrous indeed

HarrysCuddlyChristmasJumper · 09/12/2011 00:05

Gosh, you really are ancient, you're not exaggerating at all when you complain of being old, are you? Wink

The Kon-Tiki expedition rings vague bells in the dimmest, darkest recesses of my brain but I couldn't have told you a single thing about it.

Can I book you to come to The Priory for next year's PTA Quiz Night? I am always on the losing team because all my friends are stupid I can not retain trivia in a useful fashion.

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 09/12/2011 00:10

I hasten to add that it was not the Kon-Tiki expedition that took place during my not-quite-as-distant-as-you-seem-to-suppose yoof.

Hmm. Will you pay me train fare to the back end of beyond The Priory? I'll join the team if I'm allowed to sit on dear Jasper's knee meet some interesting new people.

HarrysCuddlyChristmasJumper · 09/12/2011 00:18

Of course you can sit on Jasper's knee although he does have a certain reputation to uphold in the local area so it may be advisable to leave MrT in my bedroom at home. I don't think pistols at dawn would endear me to the Neighbourhood Watch.

HarrysCuddlyChristmasJumper · 09/12/2011 00:20

Oh and I will gladly pay your train fare, I have a handsome competence you know.

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 09/12/2011 00:28

Right. It's a date. My specialist subject is The Victorian Novel and Mr Thornton's (who I dare not leave at home) will be Smouldering and Industrial Relations. Although he owns plenty of books, I suspect dear Jasper is Not An Intellectual, so perhaps he could keep the score?

Right. Really off to bed now. I have to plan my outfit for tomorrow's soiree.

Good knight!

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 09/12/2011 00:29

::Looks back for the last time::

Here is my handsome competence

DumSpiroSperHoHoHo · 09/12/2011 07:43

Harry - I just misread your post as he does have a certain reputation to uphold in the bedroom Grin!

Needed a laugh this morning so ta muchly!

Vampy hope your weekend goes well iykwim. Don't forget to take care of yourself, DH & the littlies as well as everyone else!

VictorianChristmasVamp · 09/12/2011 08:01

I've never won at PTA quizzes either ::considers getting the Colonel's new posting within the catchment area of the masterDs to take advantage experience Maud's brilliance first hand::

See I knew you'd know Maud! You are really clever ::bows in homage while feeling rather inadequate::

So much to do this morning, so little time so I thought I'd pop on here instead!! Don't say procrastination isn't my middle name!!Grin

I know I've said this many times before but thanks so much for just listening to me! Finding it hard in RL as she was just my MIL as a friend pointed out a few days ago. And feel i should stay strong for everyone else. But I miss her too!

I know I'm probably strange but she was the best MIL you could ever dream of ::too little time to reword that sentence and replace the preposition!::

And Maud I have to state to protect my reputation that thongs are not really my thang either!Grin mostly she got good coverage knickers but pretty ones not the usual plain Bridget Jones ones I used to live in She revolutionised my underwear drawer! Although the colonel and I decided not to ponder too long whether her choices were what she liked and wore, what she liked and wished were bought for her or what she thought I should be wearing for her son's sake!!ConfusedHmmBlushGrin

Right on that bewildering thought I'd best get on!!Smile

GoldFrankincenseAndTwiglets · 09/12/2011 09:56

Morning all. MissTwigs has finally gone back to school today and it is BLISFULLY quiet here :) I'm going to spend the morning making a list of everything I need to do/cook before Christmas - I always feel better with a good list!

Maud, fear not, I know of Thor Heyerdahl as well - though I wouldn't have known where he was from and only had a rough idea of what he did. I'd have said he was "one of those Roald Amundsen sort of people'.

Vampy, I've not been through anything like this before but I think I would try not to worry about why you feel like you do and jsut accept that this is how you are feeling at the moment. It's still so raw and recent that it seems perfectly reasonable and normal to me that you can't accept it yet. MWAH to you.

IWantSantasNewToyInMyStocking · 09/12/2011 10:04

Is it time for yet?

VictorianChristmasVamp · 09/12/2011 10:20
Although I'd skip to 0:49 and miss the beginning warbling! Xmas Grin

Happy Christmas all!!

feeling Christmassy today - early Christmas this weekend - can't be too bad!!

and I still haven't packed and leave in a hour! Xmas Smile

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 09/12/2011 10:27

Vampy - If your MiL was a nice woman and a friend to you (and it certainly sounds as if she was) then it's natural and understandable that you should grieve for her for your own sake, as well as grieving for the Colonel and the cadets. I hope the weekend will bring you some sort of uplift.

As for being clever, well, not really. As I said, triumph in quizzes - and I know that Twigs kicks butt has had some success in quizzes too - is about trivia. If you assume (say) that a person accumulates 100 pieces of useless information in a year, then, given that I am 30 years slightly older than you, I am likely to have 3000 additional bits of trivia floating around in my head.

GoldFrankincenseAndTwiglets · 09/12/2011 11:02

Absolutely, Maud. I ROCK at quizzes but I couldn't split a £50 bill between 5 people :)

VictorianChristmasVamp · 09/12/2011 11:06

::reminds self never to go up against Maud or Twigs at Trivial Pursuit unless it is only science questions!::

Thanks Maud. Are you really 54?! Cos I'm only 24 you know!!Wink

SuperXmassiveLBD · 09/12/2011 11:39

You have all been so busy this morning, and so have I but not in any good way. but enough about all that.

I have just cried with laughter, after catching up on all the visual meeja, etc. Because when I closed down the picture from Maud's Victoria and Albert's Secret undercracker catalogue, up popped Gizzy from behind, courtesy of Harry, with that very naughty expression on his face, as if he were carrying out that stage direction with all of his might.

A jolly good job in a way that I missed it when it was posted, btw, or it'd have been another sleepless night for me. Especially if i'd been rash enough to crank up the zoom. Not that I'd ever do a thing like that, of course.

I loved the Kontiki Expedition - my dad had the book, and I lived on that raft on green coconuts and raw fish for weeks, in my mind. Such a shame the theory has now been discredited.

Vamps, hoping the weekend is get through-able, for you. We are all cheering you on.

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 09/12/2011 12:35

Actually, Vampy, science and nature is one of my best subjects on Trivial Pursuit. I used to be invincible at TP, because it was often a feature of late night drinking sessions social occasions with friends and I probably knew all the questions and answers through constant repetition. My worst subject used to be Entertainment, because all the questions seemed to be about Coronation Street, and Sport, where my only hope were the questions about cocktail ingredients ::This was the 80s emoticon:: I wonder how I'd fare now with the revamped (geddit) game and new questions?

Am ::arfing:: at Victoria and Albert's Secret but am slightly disconcerted that Gizzy was sneaking a peek at my not-so-scanties. Mind you, I didn't think Gizzy's facial expression was naughty so much as cross-eyed although that may be why.

SuperXmassiveLBD · 09/12/2011 13:00

Re Gizzy's expression, Maud, as a ukulele player, you will of course have been reminded of Mr Wu, and his naughty eye that flickers when he's dealing with ladies' blouses.

HarrysCuddlyChristmasJumper · 09/12/2011 13:45

Although he owns plenty of books, I suspect dear Jasper is Not An Intellectual, so perhaps he could keep the score?

Shock How very dare you. Dear Jasper is a scholar - he read Classics at Oxford before he was corrupted by that woman and went off the carriage ruts.

AND calling Gizzy cross-eyed Shock Shock.

I may rethink my invitation if you can't be civil about my men.

HarrysCuddlyChristmasJumper · 09/12/2011 13:48

Oh, oh, oh, my indignation at Maud's disparaging comments about both of my beau almost wiped it from my mind.

I had a dReAm last night. Can't remember all the details (although it wasn't rood Grin) but all the chaRActers were in it.

HarrysCuddlyChristmasJumper · 09/12/2011 13:48

beaux, clearly.
