Me too, night all.

TransylvanianVampiress · 10/11/2011 07:44

Morning ladies.

Lady D I'd say my eyes were finally completely clear of dust watching that Richie clip. Many times I've watched it and thought "mm yes pretty!". But this time I saw it in its full detail and as the first comment says "wowzers!!!". Thuddity-thud!BlushGrin. I am a convert or been totally brainwashed by the academy research!Grin

You've reminded me I think I've read half of Wuthering Heights - is that the one where there's a lady who goes mad?HmmConfused. He has to sneak in to see her? And the story is told through eyes of a neighbour???Confused I'm so rubbish at reading - I really should give it another go. Can't see on my extremely limited two YouTube clips research of sparkhouse how it looks similar to Wuthering Heights though? ConfusedHmm

Mmmm I think the fog lifting from my eyes with regards to seeing Richie in full action has completely frazzled my brain totallyHmmiConfusedHmmoHmmHmmConfusedHmm. I think I've gone mad! Let me out of here!!!!WinkGrin

Grin

Hi everyone - just a quickie as RL is hammering on the door!

Strike on the 30th November will include teaching staff.

I'm still on as can ask my parents to have Miss S for the day - just want to check I'm not going to be sat there like billy-no-mates before I book my train ticket!!!

Vampy - Sparkhouse is loosely based on Wuthering Heights - the main difference being that the Kathy & Heathcliff roles are reversed (so Andrew is 'Kathy' and Carol is 'Heathcliff' in effect).

PassTheTwiglets · 10/11/2011 14:40

I'm still ok for the 30th.

DumSpiroSpero · 10/11/2011 14:52

Fab - 1 down!

Have got to trek across town to get Miss S Brownie uniform - she's being enrolled next week, but has the option of wearing it to school tomorrow for poppy day!

TransylvanianVampiress · 10/11/2011 15:04

Have to count me out if DD's school is closedSad unless I bring her and put in the corner with some gaffer tape round her mouth to stop her talking!

LadyDamerel · 10/11/2011 15:56

I'll check tomorrow what the situation is for our school. If it does shut I'll have to duck out, it would be too long a day for the PILs to have all 3 MiniDs. I doubt it will though. It didn't last time.

DumSpiroSpero · 10/11/2011 15:56

They may be able to tell you in advance Vampy - did they join in the last strike during the summer?

Miss Spiro's school closed some classes but kept open the ones where the teachers were willing to come in - her teacher wasn't and she's got the same one this year so I'm anticipating her being out on 30th so will have to draft in the olds!

Brownie uniform purchasing was a bit of a shock to the system - my mum got her Rainbows gear on eBay, but because of the short notice this lot is brand new from the official shop and rather painful!

TransylvanianVampiress · 10/11/2011 16:02

Ours did the same as yours Spiro. Some classes shut - others not. She had day off last time. I did see in paper that the head teacher union has also voted to strike so would assume if they are off as well it may close more schools? Certainly won't be school dinners and things like that I would think! Going to be madness but don't get me started on the subject!Smile

But I'll ask tomorrow if they know what they are planning.

TransylvanianVampiress · 10/11/2011 16:09

By the way it's shocking how much brownie uniform is! And I don't even like it compared with what we wore in the olden days!!Grin

Also why does you mum need a rainbow outfit?!HmmWink

Small - emoticons are very easy on the MN app!! So quicker to go crazy like this.....SmileGrinSadWinkAngryEnvyBlushHmmBiscuitConfusedBearBearConfusedBiscuitHmmBlushEnvyAngryWinkGrinSadSmile

TheSmallPrint · 10/11/2011 16:12

you're just showing off now! Grin

School shut down doesn't affect me

TheSmallPrint · 10/11/2011 16:12
Hmm
TransylvanianVampiress · 10/11/2011 16:28

Indirectly Small we're well not me as I don't current earn enough to pay tax! are paying for all these teachers, ambulance workers etc etc who are going on strike. So you could say we should ask for a day's tax rebate!!Grin.

But I really shouldn't start myself on this as it makes me cross as the Colonel is a public service worker having the same pay issues thrown on him yet the armed forces are not allowed to strike so just have to accept the terms they are given!

pretty and relaxing view anyone!

DumSpiroSpero · 10/11/2011 17:05

I can see where you're coming from Vampy, but it doesn't make it right or mean those that can strike shouldn't (bit of a militant me!).

Having said that, I used to be a member of Unite who are also involved, and they certainly don't fight so hard for the private sector workers they represent. When I and 30-odd others were made redundant from my last place of work they were as much use as a chocolate teapot.

TheSmallPrint · 10/11/2011 17:09

I understand your frustration for the for Colonel, Vampy but I am actually glad he can't strike - from a very selfish point of view of course! I also wish the fire brigade couldn't strike. On the other hand, I do wish that they were all properly renumerated for the valuable work they do though and valued more by the government and country they serve.

Many thanks for the lovely pic btw.

TransylvanianVampiress · 10/11/2011 17:28

I agree Spiro - they should be allowed to voice their opinions! Just find it frustrating that the armed forces and police who also can't strike I thinkHmm, have no way of making it known if they are unhappy or not other than by resigning! which I get the feeling an awful lot are seriously considering!

I hope the firemen don't strike either as I'm not convinced the army have Green Goddesses anymore to fill in for them!

ConfusedThink I must be hormonal!Blush. And I'm working tonight but not til 8.30 which means I won't be home til after 10 as it's a new client! Not grumbling much though as it's all money towards our adventure assuming DD's school is open!

DumSpiroSpero · 10/11/2011 18:59

It's a shame the Forces and emergency services don't have some kind of option available to make themselves heard.

As a country I think we tend towards the apathetic so I tend to get a bit over-excited when people start standing up for themselves. I spent half my high school years in the head teacher's office for organising unauthorised protests and petitions in the school foyer, although must admit I've lost my mojo as much as the next person in adulthood Sad.

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 10/11/2011 19:52

Wot cheer, ladies!

I doubt I could come if the strike's on, as there will be childcare ishoos.

For anyone wincing at the cost of Brownie uniform ::dons jaunty Brown Owl hat:: I would suggest (a) encourage your Brown Owl to start a uniform recycling service - old Brownies give me their unwanted uniform which I sell for peanuts for pack funds and we get enough in donations to suit everyone who wants nearly-new uniform and (b) complain to your district commissioner (you should have been given her name). The Brownie uniform does seem expensive to me when you compare the prices with kids' clothing in the supermarkets, although of course the supermarkets have massive volumes of sales which Girlguiding UK doesn't and, in fairness, the profits from uniform sales do go back into providing things for the girls (and this is also why Girlguiding UK asks parents to buy from their site rather than local shops). Oh and (c) if your Brown Owl has asked you to buy vast quantities of uniform - I only suggests trousers, a top and a badge sash and everything else (hoodie, gilet, baseball cap etc etc) is optional - then query that. It isn't reasonable to insist that girls have umpteen bits of uniform.

TransylvanianVampiress · 10/11/2011 20:00

Oooh I didn't know you were a Brown Owl Maudie! How fabulous!! DD wants to join the Brownies but she has to decide which of her other many other activities she's going to drop first! Swimming, violin/recorder, French club, 2 hours of gym as well as usual homework, reading spellings means not any spare time for another club/activity. Or do you think I'm being mean?!Hmm probably! Grin

How's your chest infection Maud by the way? Any improvement?

TransylvanianVampiress · 10/11/2011 20:01

Oh forgot hockey club on a Sunday morning too!Grin

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 10/11/2011 20:06

It is very difficult ::sigh:: when your child acquires a new after-school activity every year. The Girl gave up gymnastics because it clashed with dance and has just come home with a message from school to say that she's very talented at gymnastics and ought to join a class. Lovely, but I see no way - short of borrowing the tardis - that we could fit it in. I think you have to decide, Vampy, how many activities you can manage, especially if VampBoy is going to acquire some activities of his own and you could be doing all the chauffeuring on your own if The Colonel gets another posting.

Chest infection is slightly better but still far from good.

::pathetic::

SupermassiveLBD · 10/11/2011 20:12

Oh Brownies, happy days. I used to be an Elf. Smile

Yes Maud, as Vampy says, how is your poorly chest today? I quite forgot to ask yesterday Blush

What a shame if your meet has to be cancelled. Can't you re-arrange it for another day? I suppose it will be getting a little too close to Christmas to make that pratical.

LadyDamerel · 10/11/2011 20:13

I've restricted the MiniDs to 2 activities a week for just that reason, Vampy. The thought of trying to convey 3 children to 3 different activities at the same time gives me palpatations Grin, especially with LordD being all over the country with work.

::goes for a lie down at the mere thought::

TransylvanianVampiress · 10/11/2011 20:14

Does concern me what happens when Vampboy gets into clubs. He currently does gym on a Friday after school so vamp girl can't do anything that day. So every after school/evening short of Tuesday already has an activity. He's desperate to start rugby which is straight after vampgirl's hockey on a Sunday morning! The Tardis is a fab idea - particularly if it comes with PR to do all the actual ferrying around!Grin

Glad you're slowly getting betterSmile
