Vampy - my Grandpa's funeral was the first time in donkey's years that our entire extended family was all together. It's horrible but it does tend to lighten the atmosphere in a way as there is so much more to focus on. It's good that your MIL is well in herself at the moment. While I think I'd rather just drop dead like Grandma did, I also like the idea of being able to prepare and say my goodbyes before I go.

You're both right as ever ! Funerals and weddings brings families together! The colonel and his brother aren't very close any more (not surprising with the equator between them), but hopefully they'll pick up some more contact now, as they will need each other I think over the next few months.

I don't mind the captions. Some I agree with, some I don't.

I'm with Maud re the captions - it's a bit like being told what to think (or in some cases, merely stating the bleedin' obvious!)

I like the captions in the Benny Hill vid as that's half the humour for me, especially Lucas going round and round in the car. But others, like the angiekong ones, drive me bananas.

I was trying to analyse why the captions don't bother me. I think it's because I am rather good at letting things go straight over my head, it they don't suit me.

Me too massive! If I ain't interested I just switch off. Bit like when the colonel is listening to radio 4 and asks me "did you hear..." and I have to admit to not!!

Those adverts are very annoying lady d - always in the way of the lower parts of the pictures!

Spiro, how do you use the laptop while you're in the bath? How do you keep it dry? I love the idea of watching Gizzy DVDs in the bath but LordD would kill me if I accidentally dropped it in the water .

That was my worry, Lady D, but I was on a 'baths vs showers' thread last week and someone mentioned that they Skype in the bath (minus the webcam!) so I asked them if they'd had any ribs & apparently not.

Set lappy up on a tiny table on other side of bathroom & hit play just before jumping in. Is going better than portable dvd player so far - touch wood (and bigger screen! )

Watching Miss Marie Lloyd at last. I saw that some of you said it was on BBC4 recently but it didn't apepar on iPlayer until now. That Percy is a bit of an old rotter, isn't he?

Percy was a rotter but Marie wasn't exactly up for Wife of the Year, in his defence.

She hasn't really done anything wrong so far - just liked the limelight a bit too much perhaps. But I still have half an hour to go :)
