Good morning. I have started the week with a rant about getting old before my time here

This weekly series of threads has been great for my blog. Great for hits, great for feedback and great networking and discovery of other blogs. So don't just post and run, try and take a moment to look through what we've all got to offer. There's so much variety and great writing on here.

Also, this week is the MN week for their Miscarriage Code of Care Campaign. MmeLindor has been co-ordinating the blogging side of this so will be able to remind us how we can get involved if we wish.

Slamming a door or two might help MmeG

I think you absolutely should do a post about the Brontes - as the others said earlier their Facebook statuses would be classic ha ha excuse the pun.

So sorry I'm not around much this week - am at literature fest stuff.

MmeL yes, it's with MN, just wondered if anyone else had got an invite. Don't think I can go, but feel like I ought to if not many ppl have been invited IYSWIM...

PLUS2POINT4 · 13/10/2011 16:08

I weaned my 3 and 1/2 year old off the boob a couple of weeks ago.I wrote a post about when should extended breastfeeding end? . I'll be posting Christmas ideas too over the next couple of months.Loook forward to seeing everyone else's ideas :)

MmeGuillotine · 13/10/2011 16:09

I never bloody get invited anywhere. flounces in a Brontë like manner ;)

SweetestThing · 13/10/2011 16:15

Not a very cheerful post from me, I'm afraid. Hospital appointment didn't go as hoped.

It's all here

I so wish things would go well for once.

FlamingoBingo · 13/10/2011 16:21

Good to see you here, Plus2.4 -(Free Your Parenting here) - just commented on your post :)

MmeG - do you think I should make the effort to go if it really is an 'exclusive' invite?

TiarasTimeOutsAndTantrums · 13/10/2011 16:25

glittersequinsandsparkles.blogspot.com/2011/10/but-i-don-like-henry-v.html

A quick rant about my loathing of my history course unit whilst I cook dinner.

Will catch up on today's blogs this evening

MmeGuillotine · 13/10/2011 16:39

It depends what it is for, Flamingo. I'm fairly curmudgeonly so make a point of not going where I am invited and it doesn't seem to hack people off. If you don't want to go, I wouldn't feel obliged to. :)

Tiaras, I LOVE Henry V. He was one of my first historical crushes. :)

I started off doing History at university but then hated and resented having to study the bits (the bloody Industrial Revolution yawn) that didn't interest me so dropped it to do History of Art instead. ;)

TiarasTimeOutsAndTantrums · 13/10/2011 17:04

I want to like him, I really do! I'm doing 1400-1900 so I guess some bits will interest me more than others.
My crush is Henry VIII the pre-Boleyn years!

MmeLindor. · 13/10/2011 17:10

SweetestThing
Sorry about the disappointment, have commented on the blog. Must be hard going for you. Here, have some [choc]

Well, my entry into the Mills and Boon competition didn't make it to the Top 20 (not that I was expecting it to as it is more chicklit than M&B)

Apropos, critical reviews. Did I share this one?

"Some lovely humour in there, but perhaps too light-hearted a feel overall for such a traumatic event. Remember, she hadn't been going to take a great job for fear he wouldn't go with her, yet suddenly she's giggling and over it. Name change and grammatical errors also a disappointing distraction to some interesting writing."

Name change was a stupid mistake, but grammatical errors? Nothing too bad, I don't think, I did have someone look over it.

I hmpfhed and then had another glass of wine when I read it.

FlamingoBingo · 13/10/2011 17:17

MmeG - it's about talking about alcohol with kids. Not madly excited about it, have to say, and it's a long drive and short notice.

Tiaras & MmeG - found out on Monday from Alison Weir at Chelt Lit Fest that I'm descended from Henry VIII! Always knew was descended from Mary Boleyn - her daughter, Catherine - and Weir's just written the first biography of Mary and has found enough evidence to convince her that Catherine was Henry's!

MmeL - commiserations xxx

overmydeadbody · 13/10/2011 17:21

My latest blog post is a silent post, just photos, based around the colour red.

TiarasTimeOutsAndTantrums · 13/10/2011 17:42

I'm insanely jealous!
The Mary Boleyn book is on my Christmas list, she seems a lot more interesting than Anne tbh

SallyDon · 13/10/2011 17:44

I am descended from the Red Queen, the judgemental, religious one, mmmm.

Just posted about the importance of family traditions. Had some fun writing it.

TiarasTimeOutsAndTantrums · 13/10/2011 17:51

Margaret Beaumont? Ambitious if you want to be nice, a nasty vindictive piece of work from what I've read!
Everyone loves a villain though, what she managed to achieve for her son is quite something

PetiteRaleuse · 13/10/2011 18:21

FB that is very exciting. In everything I have ever read (apart from fiction) historians (including Weir in her Six Wives book, if I remember right, which I may not) have said there isn't enough evidence. Did she give any clue as to what she has uncovered? I'm really looking forward to that book and very very Envy that you got to meet her.

There again if I had met her I'd probably get star struck as she is one of my very favourite writers.

Sorry for your news MMeL looks like it's not a great day for the writers on here.

I entered another witing comp today - a spooky story in a tweet (but sent by email) - if anyone's interested I'll give you the details.

Catherine was Henry's?! That wouldn't have worked in The Tudors.

SophRunning · 13/10/2011 18:40

Hello my latest post was about the culmination of months of training doing the Royal Parks half-marathon to raise money for the National Autistic Society in honour of my darling daughter who has Asperger's. I blog about her and me and how we cope together and work to raise awareness. Would love your feedback: courage-is.blogspot.com/2011/10/race-day.html

SophRunning · 13/10/2011 18:52

arg! sorry, i keep forgetting to convert links: booksandmud.blogspot.com

Thefoxsbrush · 13/10/2011 18:52

My picture's are too big :-(

TiarasTimeOutsAndTantrums · 13/10/2011 19:03

Mary gave Henry a girl and a boy from what I remember reading. And Catherine's daughter Lettice (or some daft name) served in Elizabeth's court and married Robert Dudley. My memory may be failing me though

SallyDon · 13/10/2011 19:24

Bad day for writer's rumbles on - another rejection in my inbox. I am amassing the best collection of polite 'no's'.

After Red and White Queens, couldn't face the magic one about Jacquetta so am currently on Stuart - a Life Backwards, which is a good Philippa Gregory detox.
