Ugh. I have always loathed the Carpenters. If I want 70s saccharine, .

::warbles into hairbrush-microphone::

::sobs::

PassTheTwiglets · 17/10/2011 17:19

You LOATHE The Carpenters?! But... but... but... Shock

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 17/10/2011 17:31

But me no buts, Twiggy. I have always hated them. In the words of my favourite magazine, pass the sickbag Alice.

::Fears she may once again have crossed a line::

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 17/10/2011 17:34
, to which we used to canoodle smooch snog discuss Plato at the end of parties.
Russianpony · 17/10/2011 17:52

Gosh my popular culture education is so sorely lacking!! I couldn't tell you if I've ever heard a Carpenter's song, or have the first idea how to sing along with one!!! She does have a nice voice in that link of Lady D's! I have though heard Maud's first link, although I've never heard for HN!Confused. And as for the last linkHmm not sure, may have heard of them and just this second remembered that I do know the chorus!!

I am a mid-70's babe though, so these early songs passed me by somewhat, she says to make herself feel a bit more normal! we'll ignore the fact that I would fail on pretty much any era of music when it comes to naming that artist type competitions!!!Blush

LadyD I'll pop that photo up again for you.

Smally - hope you ok. Is RL getting on top of you again? Shame, you could do with someone else out that on top of you couldn't you really?!Smile

Off to wrap the Colonel's surprise present - I do hope he lets me wants to watch it this evening - it will be so interesting for him and probably rewarding too!Wink

Russianpony · 17/10/2011 18:01
courtesy of my father!!! I have to admit to actually quite liking it and just the merest hint of it reminds me of mountainous scenery of Scotland as we were driving north every weekend! [nostalgic emoticon]!

Pics up LadyD. x

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 17/10/2011 18:02
. You don't know what you missed, RussianPony! Or perhaps you do.
ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 17/10/2011 18:05

Oh wow! My brother was obsessed with Jean Michel Jarre. But this does not mean probably that my brother is old enough to be RussianPony's dad!

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 17/10/2011 18:07
Russianpony · 17/10/2011 18:11

As long as my younger brother is young enough to be your son, I think we'll be ok! ::thinks I'd quite like to be Maud's daughter, she wood ov edoocated me in plato and all fings sofistikated-like!:: Grin

Russianpony · 17/10/2011 18:12

oops meant as long as my younger brother isn't young enough Confused

Russianpony · 17/10/2011 18:12

Have to say that your bro's other likes just sounds a bit like noise to me!! Hmm
Grin

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 17/10/2011 18:18

I think you had to be there, RussianPony, and even though I am ancient I deny that I am old enough to be your mum!

PassTheTwiglets · 17/10/2011 18:38

Oh how strange, Maud, my brother was also Jean Michel Jarre obsessed! (still is, in fact) I went to Paris with my bro to see him in concert many moons ago. Bro collects various keyboards/weird techy things that JMJ uses...

Major Hollies fan here too. In fact that may be tomorrow's painting CD :) . I can understand thinking The Carpenters were saccharin if you'd only ever heard Close To You but the rest is pure class. So ner ner ner :) Karen Carpenter had the best female voice ever as far as I'm concerned. Well, her and Carly Simon.

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 17/10/2011 19:01

::Discounts the possibility that Twiggy might be her::

Well, Twiggy, you are of course entitled to your views however mistaken but it is matter of incontrovertible fact that . It is true, though, that I was so repulsed by On Top Of The World and We've Only Just Begun (we were offered the option of a tacktastic wedding photo with our mugshots superimposed on the lyrics of that dreadful song) that I've never listened to anything else.

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 17/10/2011 19:03
. Loving Mick Jagger on backing vocals.
Russianpony · 17/10/2011 19:18

Going off comms shortly. Wish me luck operation JP in SB is in full swing. Cold champagne open, supper burning cooking, I've even dressed up for the evening. So here goes I any wait to see JP the colonel's face while watching it!!!Grin

Russianpony · 17/10/2011 19:22

Ps in the absence of wrapping paper is puttin the DVd down my cleavage a step too far just to get JP closer to me? to make it a surprise present?!Hmm

Grin
ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 17/10/2011 19:38

Go for it, RussianPony and hope that the Colonel does too!

DumSpiroScaro · 17/10/2011 19:48

is puttin the DVd down my cleavage a step too far just to get JP closer to me?!

Good Lord woman - I thought 'confessions' was bad Shock!

I would have to give you a facepalm if only I cba to find the pic.

Have fun - and brace yourself for JP taking the ink blot test...

DumSpiroScaro · 17/10/2011 19:53

Bit nostalgic this evening with the music choices!

'You've got a friend' is one of my mum's favourites, and 'You're so vain' was her & my dad's song when they were first dating! Grin

Love the Carpenters - will have to pilfer some albums from the olds next time I'm over there. They were both into Trad Jazz in their heyday, so picking from their collection are fairly limited Confused

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 17/10/2011 20:01

We had a bit of a 70s groove going, Spiro, it's true! But thoughts of dear old Mick singing backing vocals on You're So Vain leads me to this, , although as it's being used on Strictly I guess it's gone mainstream. (It would be an excellent ceroc song, by the way, Twiggy).

::Imagines Spiro's dad as Warren Beatty::

DumSpiroScaro · 17/10/2011 20:14

I love my dad to bits but he certainly ain't Warren Beatty - Warren Mitchell would be nearer the, mark, bless him!

DumSpiroScaro · 17/10/2011 20:15

...and if you imagine Alfred Garnett married to Hyacinth Bucket that's pretty much my parents in a nutshell! Grin

DumSpiroScaro · 17/10/2011 20:22

Love that song btw, Maud. Have you seen
