I had no idea puberty was determined by weight! I told DD about it all quite a while ago but she's obviously forgotten as when I mentioned periods recently she had no idea what I was talking about :)

DumSpiroSpero · 18/03/2011 17:55

Did you do the whole facts of life thing? I can just imagine the questions mine will come out with!

I've no qualms about doing it, and actually would quite like to get it over with - it's just difficult to find a starting point. Obviously not having younger siblings we've not had to do any explaining there and as I have a Mirena coil I don't have periods (tmi but I have to say Thank God!) so nothing for her to ask questions about there either.

I have got a book stashed away for when the time comes and we're having a girly evening next Friday so might bite the bullet & do it then. I know it's unlikely but I'd hate for something to happen on the periods front & her not have a clue & be terrified.

Hello, ladies,

Just a quick post. They have had their dinners and now are relaxing with coffee so I nipped in the back room to say hi.

I managed a quick read through at various points through the day, so sorry to hear Miss Spiro had a bad turn today. Hope all continues to be well.

And thanks so much for all the good wishes. Bless you all.

And special thanks to Maud for the Guy pic, it is keeping me going - in more ways than one Grin
Oh lawdy what a man!

Have to run! TTFN.

Yoohoo, Massive! Glad you're holding up so far - hang in there!

Did you do the whole facts of life thing?

I did, yes. When I mentioned "a special hole" she said "URGH! What, like in your elbow or something?!" :o She's forgotten everything I told her though, I know. I think it's all so weird and unlikely to a kid (well it is weird, let's face it!) that she just dismissed it. Will ahve to remind about periods though 'cos, as you said Spiro, would be awful to have it happen and not know about it :(

PassTheTwiglets · 18/03/2011 18:30

How long are they on the island for, btw?

DumSpiroSpero · 18/03/2011 18:54

Oh well, looks like I'm in for some fun then. At least I'm not at the same stage as SIL. DN (nearly 12) referred to a boy in her class as a 'tosser' the other week, and when SIL called her on it, she replied 'what does it actually mean then,' cue another conversation entirely Shock Blush

DumSpiroSpero · 18/03/2011 18:56

May have to concoct a little story for you after you saved my sanity while I was st the IL's the other week Grin

TheSmallPrint · 18/03/2011 19:11

Can't believe you two are having thetalk already! Smallboy knows babies grow in my tummy and you go to hospital to give birth but he doesn't know anything else, he is such a wus I think he would pass out if I told him anything else!! I try to be as honest and factual when he does ask stuff but he rarely does tbh.

VirginiaWolf · 18/03/2011 19:15

Exactly how long are you planning to keep me waiting? a deep voice growled into her ear. I've had to tell Vaisey a string of lies in order to be here but now you're telling me you have to entertain guests all evening? This displeases me. I had other... plans... for you.

Guy tossed his fringe back out of his eyes and he glared at her.

I'm sorry but you know how it is, she whispered. I can't just leave these people, I'm expected to do the dutiful housewife thing here!

He stared at her, his expression a mixture of desire and anger. Look, perhaps I could sneak out for an hour once they have their coffee she said, peeking around the door to make sure that nobody was listening. I could pretend there is something urgent I need to attend to.

He stared at her for just a beat too long and then smirked as he replied well I am in urgent need of your attention...

She laughed and he raised his hand, clad in a black leather glove, to stroke her cheek as he whispered Hurry, I can't wait much longer....

An hour or so later, the dinner plates had been cleared away and she felt her breathing getting quicker as she went to make the coffee. She handed the cups round and made sure all her guests were settled. Would you excuse me for a little while? she said, a little breathlessly. I have to deal with, um, something....

She went to the garden to find him but there was no sign of Guy at first and she wondered where he'd gone. Surely he hadn't given up waiting for her? She was just about to resign herself to the fact that he had gone back to the castle when she was aware of someone in the shadows behind her, breathing deeply. She turned to see him standing there, his black leathers shining in the moonlight.

At last, he said gruffly. He took her hand and pulled her into the shadows. Now come with me, he growled.

DumSpiroSpero · 18/03/2011 19:28

Blimey Virginia! I don't know what effect that'll have on Massive but it's certainly working for me! Grin

TheSmallPrint · 18/03/2011 19:38

Flippin eck!!

VirginiaWolf · 18/03/2011 20:24

Glad to be of service, ladies :) Hope Miss Massive enjoys it.

Btw, I do know how to spell my own name - it was an homage to our own Dear Wolfie, in case that wasn't clear :)

TheSmallPrint · 18/03/2011 20:46

Oh, is it finished then?

TheSmallPrint · 18/03/2011 21:18
DumSpiroSpero · 18/03/2011 21:31

Am watching 'Frozen' avec crispy duck & prosecco!

Is a v. weird film but interesting cast, Ralph Little has just made sb appearance and several other recognisable faces I can't quite put a name to (& one I can Grin)

TheSmallPrint · 18/03/2011 21:45

Is Mr Spiro out by any chance? Grin

DumSpiroSpero · 18/03/2011 22:23

Oh yes - how did you know?!

DumSpiroSpero · 18/03/2011 22:30

Have discovered an alternative to sgroppino - raspberry street, chambord & prosecco Smile

DumSpiroSpero · 18/03/2011 22:30

Raspberry street?!

Raspberry sorbet, even...

VirginiaWolf · 18/03/2011 22:44

Sorry, Small - I would want to read more if I were the reader but I'm not sure that I could write it. Well, at least not in public :o

PassTheTwiglets · 18/03/2011 22:47

Evening, peeps! Spiro, sounds like a lovely night! Frozen arrived here yesterday but not sure when I'll get a chance to watch it. Mr Squirrel and Captain Rugger haven't arrived yet though. I still haven't had a sgroppino since you all reminded me about it recently and I accidentally restarted my diet yesterday, doh! The other one sounds nice too, I think we have some Chambord in the cupboard...

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 18/03/2011 23:01

Back by popular demand

I have a lurgy and am going to bed.

I'm sorry to hear Miss Spiro's had a funny turn. Girl has had a certain amount of PSHE at school which seems to have done more harm than good, as they seem to have given them almost the full picture but not quite, which has left her with some very odd ideas. And then, because she reads some books aimed at teenagers, she picks up other odd bits of (mis)information. I need to have another conversation with her. [wimp emoticon]

Night, all!

PassTheTwiglets · 18/03/2011 23:05

Sorry you're feeling poorly, Maud. Hope you feel better soon. I think we have had enough of illness here, don't you? Here's to a healthy, germ-free April for us all!

Thanks for the Keep Calm link, Maud. I've bookmarked it now, so I won't lose it again.

Here you go then, Massive... some advice for you

Night, all!

DumSpiroSpero · 18/03/2011 23:07

Well, Frozen conked out on me about 15 minutes ago and I've reverted to the Impressionists. Frozen is not exactly gripping, although it does draw you in in a weird way and our man does look rather lovely in it.

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 18/03/2011 23:09

Oh, you are saucy, Twiggy! I'm still thinking of cravats, myself.

::Shuffles off, sniffing and coughing::
