Do come in. It's never too late to enrol. We have an extensive programme of rigorous academic study and a never-ending supply of Chateau Gizzy and ratafia biscuits.

I love the way that scene is shot, Techno, in the snow, with the contrast between the black and white. And of course the thud-making words.

I cannot think of one literary or TV couple whose relationship I'd want for myself.
What does that say about me, I wonder?
I even can't pick Margaret and John, Techno would handbag me. Or should that be reticule me?

PassTheTwiglets · 04/02/2011 23:09

Blimey, Phoenix. That fanfic!! Shock
Off to bed now - dammit for feeling ill :o

LaVieEnTechnicolor · 04/02/2011 23:11

Pick whatever you like, Theresa. The question - as I interpret it - is about which literary relationship we would like our own relationship to be like. So we can all say Margaret and Mr Thornton if we choose. Of course, if the question was which 190 year old fictional man do you want to bag for yourself, that might be different ::puts brick in reticule:: but, then again, that would be delusional, wouldn't it?

Ah, I misunderstood just how much alike the relationship was to be, Techno. It's a difficult question, when you consider so many fictional ones end at the sentence
''and they lived happily ever after''
and we don't really know how they deal with the more mundane side of a marriage/partnership /whatever.

I would like one where the man decides never to work from home unless specifically begged to by his lady wife. Which one was that?

Theresaholeinyourmind · 04/02/2011 23:21

Night night Twiggy, hope you feel better tomorrow. Wine

LaVieEnTechnicolor · 04/02/2011 23:30

Yes, one doesn't actually know what the relationship between Margaret and Mr Thornton would be, however active one's imagination! I can't think of any literary depiction of a long marriage which is encouraging. There must be one, surely?

Goodnight, Twiggy. Drink your Wine medicine.

Another lovely scene, the teacups one. Though I always wish they'd found some more delicate china.
Imagine it set in the present day, though, at Starbucks or somewhere. It wouldn't be the same, would it?

LaVieEnTechnicolor · 04/02/2011 23:49

I suppose the thick china shows that the Hales are in Reduced Circumstances. I think that is part of the delight of period drama - it just couldn't be the same now. Hands brushing over the cardboard cups in Starbucks would not generate the same electricity.

Off to bed now. Sweet Nottamun dreams with your long-haired guy.

Theresaholeinyourmind · 04/02/2011 23:54

Good night, good night. Sweet Milton teacupped dreams to you.

I don't insist on the long hair, you know. It just made a pleasant change.

LaVieEnTechnicolor · 05/02/2011 00:03

Thank you. My quivering teacup runneth over.

Y'know the really full on outfit he wears with the long hair?

I have spent the last 24 hours pondering exactly how much fun one could have getting him out of that Grin!

PassTheTwiglets · 05/02/2011 09:42

LOL, MrsLN!! Don't forget the boots need to stay on though :o

Btw, reading back to see where I got up to, it looked like I was fishing for sympathy last night when I said "dammit for feeling ill". What I actually meant though was that it was inconvenient feeling ill after reading Phoenix's fanfic, if you catch my drift :)

Tee hee, forgot to tell you that yesterday DD said to me "Mummy, we learned about the 'history' thing in ICT, shall I show you? Er, Mummy, why have you ben looking at loads of pictures of Guy?" Blush

MrsLucasNorth · 05/02/2011 09:47

OMG Twigs - your DD! I daren't let mine anywhere near my phone and have to keep deleting my browsing history on PC Blush.

I totally got your drift last night btw (Lady of Nottingham, by any chance? Wink)

PassTheTwiglets · 05/02/2011 09:54

That was the one :o

MrsLucasNorth · 05/02/2011 09:58

Grin Not bad is it, although some of Guy's bedroom dialogue is a bit on the cringey side.

PassTheTwiglets · 05/02/2011 10:04

I liked his bossy side, the gruff "come here..." bits Blush the second fanfic, can't remember title, was a bit graphic in the language for me.

MrsLucasNorth · 05/02/2011 11:51

Haven't read the other 2. Have just talked DH into buying a very Porter-esque shirt!

PhoenixRisingFromTheAshes · 05/02/2011 12:46

TLN has unblocked me!!!! Woo hoo!!! And I'm !!!!

LaVieEnTechnicolor · 05/02/2011 12:57

Morning all!

How uncomplicated my life is, without Twitter and fanfic. But the thought of TechnoGirl looking at my browsing history is still very alarming.

I need to swing into Saturday action. may help, I guess.

OP posts:
MrsLucasNorth · 05/02/2011 13:11

Good news Phoenix!

Right - I need the Academy's verdict on the shirt

LaVieEnTechnicolor · 05/02/2011 13:15

Well, I like it very much, MrsLN. It's the kind of thing I would buy for TechnoBloke, who has a thing about button-down collars and won't wear them, leaving very little choice in casual shirts. In fact, I may go and buy him one, as the shirt I bought him at Christmas had to go back.

::Nominates MrsLN to be in charge of the Academy Boutique::

OP posts:
MrsLucasNorth · 05/02/2011 13:22

It's lovely and soft...and roomy Wink

LaVieEnTechnicolor · 05/02/2011 13:28

Ah, roomy is good for TechnoBloke too, who has, shall we say, a chunky physique. We're going shopping later ....

OP posts:
itsalarf · 05/02/2011 16:04

Nice shirt! Malelarf will not wear button down either. Probably realises it would be terrible with a cravat. Did you enjoy the tone-raising last night then. Think we need to remember our roots in more high brow works!

itsalarf · 05/02/2011 16:06

If all academy members bought the same shirt for their RL leading men, it could be a sort of secret signal. Mind you, it could result in giving the eye to random blokes who popped into Debenhams.
