Well, when we've filled up this thread Boden has invited us to a twiglet party, has she not?

How's life on the banks of the Limpopo?

Theresaholeinyourmind · 02/12/2010 21:24

Not too bad here in the swamps thank you. Not a smidgen of snow of course.
And the nightingale was back late last night. In fact there were two, one in the next street, and they were duelling in song. Unbelievable. I have never ever heard them before.

asmallbunchofflowers · 02/12/2010 21:34

Two nightingales? Well, that knocks Berkeley Square into a cocked hat.

Something you said last night [[

reminded me of this]].

I love that song and I love that look, the clothes were so elegant then. I wonder if the movie is any good? Almost worth watching for the fashion.

Back to the Lucas vid, gorgeous shots but another sad one--makes me want to break out the fluffy blankets and hot cocoa

asmallbunchofflowers · 02/12/2010 21:51

I have seen the movie - very good if you like the songs (which I do). Then had the good fortune to find a Cole (grandfather of John, do you think?) Porter CD in a charity shop, which was kept in the car for a long time so Offspring as a very small girl would sing along to Let's Misbehave.

It's impossible, I think, to find a cheery Lucas vid, although the Mission Impossible one is quite a hoot.

Theresaholeinyourmind · 02/12/2010 22:00

Oh, you can't beat the standards. And big bands and all that stuff. Hip hop and rap and boy bands seem so lacking in glamour.I must see if I can find that movie at the DVD shop, they have all sorts. Except for the most important ones, the rotters.

Talking of musicals, that Lucas clip led on to the Staying Alive walk one, now that did give me a smile. Naughty of me oerhaps but I couldn't help it

asmallbunchofflowers · 02/12/2010 22:05

[[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=51s367FQEIU Well, you can tell by the way I use my walk,
I'm a woman's man, no time to talk.]]

I blame Dennis Potter. The soundtracks of Pennies from Heaven and The Singing Detective changed my musical tastes for ever. That's probably why the Lady Gaga and other things used on the vids have come as such an, err, education.

OP posts:
Theresaholeinyourmind · 02/12/2010 22:10

Oh, this is . I had to chuckle at the sight of another boiler suit.

And even under all the bad hair and clothes ...

Theresaholeinyourmind · 02/12/2010 22:18

I do like quite variety of music from classical to heavy metal. Some of the guitarists do work as intricate as Mozart and co. And of course old rock and roll from the 50's
And Lady Gaga isn't half bad, there is some acceptable stuff around nowadays.
I suppose in short for me it has to like, 'ave a good toon, innit.

Isn't this John sweet, though, I had no idea

Why is he always John?

asmallbunchofflowers · 02/12/2010 22:35

Yes, even with the less than exemplary hair and clothes.

Naff soundtrack, though. I might have been selling myself short on my poptasticness just now. I just did better on the beat the intro round on Never Mind The Buzzcocks than the panels did. I don't dislike Lady Gaga - and I'm now devoted to Muse - but as I seldom listen to music radio, I generally only get to hear the sorts of bands who end up with the late lamented Ned Twinkie on Loose Ends.

I think he's often John because it's such a common name that it's almost like having no name - Everyman. Although of course at Marlborough Mills he had to be called John because Mrs Gaskell decreed it.

Bodenbabe · 02/12/2010 22:43

I usd to work on a programme about big bands in my BBC days... not my personal taste at all though.

Theresaholeinyourmind · 02/12/2010 22:49

Well you do better than me, the only music I listen to that I haven't chosen myself is the things they play in supermarkets.
I thought the naff Britney soundtrack added to the sweetness of the vid. She being so modern and worldly-sounding, and he totally not. Do you remember the rather rude Guy one to the same soundtrack?

But this John thing, are other actors John all the time? I haven't paid attention, I have to admit. Of courss your Mr Thornton is legitimately John, as you say. Are you getting one of those teeshirts btw? I can imagine the sensation should i appear on the streets of Limpopoville in one saying Gizzy's Girl . If there was one that said Guy's Doll mind you, I might be prepared to risk it. Or perhaps not..

asmallbunchofflowers · 02/12/2010 22:51

Boden - First you tell me that you hate the Ukulele Orchestra of GB. Now you don't like big bands. Where did it all go wrong? I suppose you've been listening to Justin Bieber with Kevin and Perry?

OP posts:
Theresaholeinyourmind · 02/12/2010 22:51

Boden, did you work on any other interesting programs? I know you missed an important Radio One interview.

asmallbunchofflowers · 02/12/2010 23:02

I don't do t-shirts, but Guy's Doll would be, like, way cool, innit?

I'm not sure that I have seen any Guy vid to the same track.

OP posts:
Theresaholeinyourmind · 02/12/2010 23:04

Does anyone fancy some ?
Warning: hefty proportion of After Eights in there, so be careful.
I think this one had its audio changed and it has many old favourite flavours, but still worth checking out for some lovely shots, especially of Mr Thornton.

Theresaholeinyourmind · 02/12/2010 23:09

''Oh Lordy. That one.''
What were those lyrics in that other classic of naughtiness, Bad to the Bone?

I'll make a rich woman beg
And I'll make a good woman steal
I'll make an old woman blush
And I'll make a young girl squeal

asmallbunchofflowers · 02/12/2010 23:12

Oh, indeed. Mr Thornton looks his handsomest there.

OP posts:
Theresaholeinyourmind · 02/12/2010 23:16

That close up of the through the window smoulder was quite something!

asmallbunchofflowers · 02/12/2010 23:18

Bad to the Bone is beginning to look like Andy Pandy by comparison! I thought you had selected that vid for the equestrian opening and the early shirt removal and corridor prowling, until we got to those shots, when I remembered our earlier seminar on the same topic. You are a very naughty girl, Theresa.

Have just watched the whole of Sparkhouse in one go Grin.

Even with his minimal role and dressed like Benny from Crossroads my pulse has been racing for the last 3 hours.

He made the hero in Sparkhouse look like a petulant little fuckwit too!

asmallbunchofflowers · 02/12/2010 23:21

Somehow, I just know that sooner or later I'm going to watch Sparkhouse. But I think I'll go for Claude Monet first.

So, MrsLN - Will you be buying your spouse an acrylic jumper and tea cosy hat for Christmas, so that he can dress up as John Standring?

OP posts:
MrsLucasNorth · 02/12/2010 23:25

Er, no - don't think the effect would be quite the same.
