Have you always known that you were adopted?

Yes, I was never told as such, just always knew.

Do you interact with your birth parents?

Have you ever tried to find your birth family?

Do you know the circumstances surrounding your adoption, and have you/would you like to meet your birth parents?

No, my Mum killed herself and I've never tried, or wanted to find my Dad.

I know what I was told about my adoption, my Mum chose to give me up, but it was 1977, how much of a free choice was it for a 17yr old single Mum?
I think there was probably some coercion, or shame placed on her.

How do you feel about your biological parents?

Did you feel different to other children?

I've met some of them, my Grandad many years ago, my sister more recently.
I didn't keep in touch with my Grandad for no particular reason, it was before the Internet and it just fell away.
My sister didn't treat me very well.
My brother knows about me, but doesn't want to be in touch which was hurtful at first, but I'm fine with it now.
The larger family aren't interested in me either.

I love my Mum and wish I could have met her.

Absolutely.
I wish I wasn't an adopted person.

Is there anything you wish your adoptive parents had done differently?

Thank you for posting. I have a couple of questions:

Firstly, would you ever adopt children yourself? I have friends who are adopted, and some have said they never would.

Secondly, what do you think of the UK adoption process and is there anything you’d change about it if you were calling the shots?

This is difficult, because I loved them very much of course, they were my parents, but adopting after having a biological child should not be allowed.
I constantly compared myself, and even now, 25 years after my Mum died, am sure she felt more for my brother.

It’s very sad that you’ll never meet your mum again (I guess the sister and grandad were on her side?) but I’m curious why you don’t want to find your dad.

Thank you and I'm sorry to hear that.

Im fairly sure my Dad is dead anyway, but his relationship with my Mum wasn't great, massive age gap.

Absolutely not.

How did you find out about the relationship (it not being great) between your birth parents?

I'm saying relationship, I don't even know if there was a relationship, I just know that he was at least 20 years older, and my Mum was 17 when I was born
