Well exactly that really got a spare bit of time and I know with some of the recent ridiculous tv shows I thought I’d see if I could answer a few myths and questions. I will say my partner is a traveller I am not but am married into the community which in itself is rare

Did the site get planning permission before it was set up?

namechange2026198 · Today 13:53

Yes it did (although sadly this isn’t always the case) we live on an authorised site

I’m always interested in how the facilities work, are you plumbed into mains water, gas, electricity etc?

MauriceTheMussel · Today 13:56

I live in a London borough undergoing site consultation. Sites have been proposed for single pitches. Is this desirable to the community (to live alone with space for one static and one touring caravan) or do “they” prefer living as a group?

WallaceinAnderland · Today 13:56

How does the site split the bills.

SaffronsMadAboutMe · Today 13:56

You say you're married, so is your partner your husband or wife?

AnneLovesGilbert · Today 13:58

Do the children living on your site all go to school? What’s the process for enrolling children in school when a site is unofficial?

Is abortion a universally bad thing in the community? A young lady who is a traveller was very scared her family would find out. Wasn't aware of it being banned etc beforehand

Sorry should have said I am a wife. Facilities wise is probably a large part of it I struggled with the most when we first moved on here. We have water and electricity but we don’t have mains gas which I suppose is same as some houses. We don’t have washing facilities in the caravan and whilst it is on site it’s not always predictable so a lot is still done by hand you can get gas bottles but again they work out expensive you couldn’t heat the place by it. I can’t say bills wise how it’s split as my husband deals with that he pays each month and I know part of it goes into the bills but we do pay council tax here I know that. Honestly I think most of the families would struggle in a single space a lot of the girls start marriage young and rely a lot on their mothers/sisters/aunts etc to be close

Do the traveller women accept you as a non-traveller yourself?

namechange2026198 · Today 14:08

My children went to school and college but a lot don’t which I don’t agree with. Registration is really hard work and a lot are bullied even now. Tbh I think the tv shows have almost made it worse for the younger ones I

It’s taken a very long time for them to accept me my MIL and SIL are my closest friends and I goto them more than my own family but my husband took a lot from the older generations when he decided to be with someone outside the community.

Why do travellers want to live on permanent sites ?

Wherethedogsits · Today 14:11

Are women treated differently?
If so how has that been for you as a non traveller?

tsmainsqueeze · Today 14:12

Do you have any money worries , many travellers in the media don't seem to ,is this the norm ?
Are you considered an equal to your partner and do you consider each other a team?
Would you encourage your children ,especially daughters to get their education and become independent ?

tsmainsqueeze · Today 14:15

Sorry i just read your children went to school etc.
I absolutely do not label all travellers the same but why do some litter, cause chaos and appear to be lawless, this must be a pain for all the ones that don't behave like that.

RubyHiker · Today 14:15

do you have daughters? Would you allow them to marry before 18?

Many don't because they have to pay pitch rental, service charge and council tax etc.

TheOnlyWayIsIlford · Today 14:18

Hello!
Do you ever go travelling? Or do you stay full time living on the site?

How did you make the decision to move on to a Traveller site with your DH rather than your DH move into 'settled' / non-Traveller life with you?

Why do travellers want to live on permanent sites ?

For me it was because I wanted our children to have an education and was a non negotiable to me. We do still travel but when the babies were younger I wanted them to have at least a normal school life

Yes we are very much treated differently we don’t have the same rights as a man does. That took a lot of getting used to, I mean I can have an opinion on somethings but when it comes down to it, it’s his choice. We do compromise a bit but my oh would never want his family to know that

Why do non travellers do these things? The worst littering I ever saw was after my freshers fair.

Yes I have daughters in their 20’s one got married at 18 (same as me) and the other is at university which is unheard of. As long as they are happy then I am I have never pushed it onto them.

How did you meet your husband and what made you fall in love with him and to a degree, I guess, the lifestyle?

Is it something you think could have happened later on life, and do you know or hear of many mixed couples in the community?

Do you have daughters? That you bring up around this attitude?
