Well exactly that really got a spare bit of time and I know with some of the recent ridiculous tv shows I thought I’d see if I could answer a few myths and questions. I will say my partner is a traveller I am not but am married into the community which in itself is rare

interesting, thank you.

How old are you now and how old were you when you met? Where did you meet and was it a case of love at first sight so you were willing to change your way of life?

Did your MIL and SIL accept you straight away or did that take a while?

Do you get on so well with them just because of circumstances and having to live in close proximity to them, or do your personalities genuinely gel?

Did you say the older generation have not been so welcoming?

ShutupLwren · Today 15:04

Thanks for answering. Glad your site doesn’t have any DV.

How did your own family feel about you marrying a traveller so young?

WallaceinAnderland · Today 15:04

What would happen if your husband died. Would you be allowed to continue living on the site, supporting yourself and making your own decisions?

Dumbledora8 · Today 15:07

such a interesting thread. The culture fascinates me :)

what sort of things do you do as a hobby OP?
did you marry young? Did you have a big and glamour wedding?

I could ask so many questions :) thanks for an interesting read

Edited

I am not far off 40 now and originally when I met him I was 8 so no prob not love at first sight. But I met him again when I was 15 and I can honestly say say yes I think it was was, no they didn’t totally accept me straight away I guess it was probably easier for them because I’d been up there growing up, I would feel for someone who had to go into it blind. My partners grandmother really didn’t accept it for a long time.

Honestly I don’t actually know and maybe something I should think about

Thank you for the thread.
Where do you wash clothes/bedding etc? Is there a washing machine in the van?
I appreciate this might be specific to Roma travellers, but I'd read that lower clothing garments are considered dirty and must be washed separately to upper clothes like blouses etc? Is this the case and do you wash mens and womens clothes together?

It’s not unheard of though and this is half the problem… people watch these stupid programs or hear a few articles and think that must be normal that’s why I did it was so people saw reality

Well ok then 'rare'.

But why won't he tell his parents he sometimes compromises with you, since you're doing so many 'rare' things anyway?

Btw, someone starts a traveller/gypsy AMA every few weeks on average, so we may know a bit more than you're assuming.

Thanks for the interesting thread.

What is your relationship with your husband like? How did you meet?

Upyermonkey · Today 15:18

Hi, I think my Qs got lost - is your partner Irish Traveller or English Romany?
Do both ethnicities live on your site?

Cannesdo · Today 15:18

Are his family Romany or Irish travellers ?
Where did you meet, if you knew him from the age of 8 ?

bitontheobtuse · Today 15:26

This is a most interesting thread, thank you.

Can I ask whether it was difficult in a caravan during a heatwave summer? I can imagine it could be very challenging if there's no aircon.

Cheese55 · Today 15:26

Did your daughter's have their own bedrooms in your caravan?

Imdunfer · Today 15:27

What is the difference between living in a small house and living in a big static caravan that is never moved off site?

Him and the kids are my favourite people in the world. He might be seen as the one who make the choices but so far (fingers crossed) very few I’ve disagreed on.

The travellers that regularly take over our local common parkland always leave an absolute mess behind. The last lot were tree surgeons and dumped all the cuttings and would chipping plus lots of other rubbish on the park which the council then had to remove. They also had chickens and other animals.

When you travel, do you leave a mess behind? If so, why do you think that's ok? Or if not, why do those that do think it's ok?

It’s been bloody awful lol this has been a time I miss a house I felt a bit like a sardine in a tin when it was really hot

Do you ban the use of the loo on your caravan?

Samewrinklesnewname · Today 15:36

Interesting thread-thanks for opening up!

Do you think there will ever be a day when you’ll live in a house?

Uricon2 · Today 15:36

One of the big issues for me on these threads is pulling kids, especially girls, out of education to be come trainee homemakers. Sincerely meant congratulations on ensuring that was not the case with your daughters.

CherryBlossom321 · Today 15:36

What will you do/ do you do when he makes a decision on behalf of the family that you fundamentally disagree with?

No I think it’s disgusting that they do! Some of the mess I’ve seen is disgraceful and it makes the ones of the community who do have respect look bad sadly as with anywhere there is always the ones who change peoples opinion (rightly so in those cases)

I don't understand this really.

You have a job = Unheard of

Your kids went to school = Unheard of

Your married daughter works = Unheard of

So with all these 'unheard of things' happing before his family's eyes, why does he choose not to tell them that you two sometimes compromise?

Is compromising with his wife really the secret he feels he needs to keep?

I live near a traveller family and know quite a few. They now live ina house. The kids all go to school including the far older girls who are teenagers. They dont cause as any issues at all. The only thing that perplexes me is there home is very clean but yet there kids drop litter absolutely everywhere. I really dont understand how kids brought up by a houseproud mum drop mess everywhere else.
