Quite, as you say she’d need to earn c £115-£120k Pa to take home what she does. As a salary this would put her in the top 3% of wage earners in the country.

Actually, I calculate it to be 132k gross. I laid out the numbers up thread took the monthly amount and plugged it back into salary calculator. Although, to be fair, the 132k number is a low estimate as it doesn't take into account the other things you get if on UC and a 'low income' eg help with childcare, FSM, university consideration help, etc etc even things like gym membership you can get a discount. So, to be 'equivalent' buying power and income you'd have to be on more than £132k.

It's wild.

MaggieBsBoat · 25/07/2026 22:12

I was a single mum, did a law degree, worked my arse off to achieve.
Many years on I am successful, on a 6 figure salary and I have 5 kids.

To be a net contributor you have to be earning over 54k. I imagine that many of the people on here criticising OP are themselves not contributing to society with their low tax rates. There is the chance that OP will end up earning a lot of money and being that net contributor you are not.

There are lots of things the OP has that seem fortunate - healthy babies, benefit support and a certain ability, or desire, to see the positive in where she is at - but I still do not believe she has been the careful architect of every decision and circumstance that has placed her where she is.

It's ok to discuss issues, but try just scrolling fast through the later pages on this thread and imagine being the op.

I did read through all OP’s posts and several pages of other posts thanks.
Im not sure what type of response Op was looking for here, but if this isn’t a wind up, can well understand resentment from those funding her lifestyle choices.

Sometimeswinning · 25/07/2026 21:31

Yeah. But she has them. What’s your plan for them? They have every right to a good life regardless of choices made by their parents.

I roll my eyes every time a certain type of parent has another child, with another partner. But you need to separate the two.

MY plan? How on earth can I plan for the decisions of others? I am a net contributor by a long way, I pay my taxes which support ops children. Other than that, I have a life and family I can afford and pay for. Does op have a plan to pay for my decisions?

How have you had time to meet and have kids with 4 different men whilst already having kids?

I wondered how she managed to have kids with so many utter loser men but I realised by the time she had 4 or 5 kids that only the male dregs of society would be interested in such a shit show by that point. Decent guys would run a mile. Kind of explains a lot sadly.

I do not have 7 children but I do pay 7 figures a year in tax. No inheritance, no private school, no hand outs or leg ups. So yes, I am a net contributor, by a vast margin. So, @MaggieBsBoat does that therefore give me the right to have an opinion??

Around 4k a month (includes rent)

Wow that's twice the average salary as its tax free too.

Op is 37 though. Not actually got a job. First kid at 19 . Let’s do the maths…

Bringemout · 25/07/2026 22:46

Tulipsriver · 25/07/2026 20:44

How do you help your children deal with repeatedly living with a new man then watching the relationship break up? If there are 4 dads your eldest has dealt with huge upheaval at least 4 times? That's a hell of a lot to put a kid through. Have they had therapy?

Do any of them still have a relationship with any of your previous partners?

This is what I get, I look at my own DD and I know she would find this extremely hard to live with, the insecurity, the instability.

I’m glad OP is studying etc but the lack of concern over the wellbeing of her children seems off to me. The welfare yeah, it’s not that shocking, the lack of regard for your own children and how they must feel though, it’s intensely selfish.

Also how the hell would you have the time to find these men with that many kids to look after. Like how do you date? The sheer amount of housekeeping, school work, taking your kids to their stuff. Many single mums of 1 or 2 kids struggle to find the time for new relationships around work and their kids.

I know it sounds judgy but what on earth would possess anyone to bounce from relationship to relationship having kids willy nilly. OP has a 3 month baby and has decided she can’t rely on men… now after the 7th!?

Honestly the comments on here are mostly appalling.

No, what is appalling is a selfish woman have SEVEN children with god knows how many different men and sponging off of the country. She should be ashamed of her lifestyle

I'm very lucky

You're only lucky because you live in a country which is picking up the tab for your irresponsible lifestyle.

I'm a net contributor by a long, long way and have been for many years. I'm thoroughly annoyed at the taxes I pay being used to fund the OP's irresponsible lifestyle.

I'd maybe force myself to go back to the gym, then ruin my efforts by getting cake. I'd get my hair and nails done. Knowing me I'd end up studying - I even did on Christmas Day! Then I'd have a curry and a bath, and watch murder documentaries. Then I'd probably fall asleep while scrolling Vinted!

This sounds like a good day!

PoorPhaedra · 25/07/2026 22:55

I’m sorry and I know it’s not politically correct but I can’t get over the fact that you are given £4k per month in benefits!!! That’s more than I take home with a masters degree, professional job and 25 years of experience 😱

SuePerblybuilt · 25/07/2026 22:55

Optimist2020 · 25/07/2026 14:55

Have your children been on a foreign holiday abroad? Does your eldest have aspirations? Are you saving up for 7x university fees?

What is the deal with some posters asking about holidays abroad? A foreign holiday is not necessarily the apex of achievement, or the one kids enjoy most.
We spent 20kish on a all bells and whistles trip to Florida, Disneyland. A rip-off, insanely hot, loads of stress at airport there and back..
The holidays my DC talk about wanting to repeat are those where we rented big beachside houses, or those with indoor pools and hot tubs, in Devon, or The Lake District etc; if the company is good, any destination can be enjoyed.

I've just hired a cleaner! Although I feel like as soon as she leaves there are crumbs on the side or paw prints on the floor 😂

Great that the tax payer is funding a cleaner for you……

It does indeed. And will go downhill from here on. OP will need to accept that she will not find a decent man until her last child reaches adulthood. The alternative being a guy with zero IQ who will bring misery to her children. But I’m not sure OP is particularly bothered judging by the previous men she’s chosen to hook up with. A shit show all round unfortunately.

No wonder the country is finding it harder to fund UC if they top up this much to every other person 😢

Vulpini · 25/07/2026 23:14

Tinahowls · 25/07/2026 14:39

Well in that case it would have been whether or not they passed the 11 plus and nothing else

That’s not true. Some grammar schools only require 11+ pass (these are called selective). Some require higher 11+ grades and sometimes other criteria too (these are called super selective). I went to a Kent grammar, as did my brother, most of my friends and now my DC, so I know how it works.

Yup. Yet soon as anyone tries to reset the system, those who have no idea, wring their hands mention poorest and most vulnerable without actually sitting down to see, likes of OP is getting way more than a FT working family in her hand every month. In her own words she says she’s very lucky so not one of the struggling, worried sick, living month to month key workers or professionals. Done a runner from this thread as expect, she expected lots of fawning, you must be a superwoman responses. No. Instead it’s a reality check. It’s ok to make a mistake, just don’t give an encore time and time again, Feel for the kids, but sorry, imho Mum of the year, OP is not. 7 x 4 is irresponsible and ridiculous given the history and circumstances.

Vulpini · 25/07/2026 23:19

fuggetaboutit · 25/07/2026 14:44

Honestly- i'm judging you and I have 5 children, with my husband.

I am the eldest of more children than you have, and I am no contact with my parents. My childhood was robbed from me, and I had more stability than what your children have and it still wasn't good enough.

Your children are the ones who suffer from your poor life choices. Its not good enough. There's not much you can do about it now, but you will see the fall out in years to come and hopefully you will take responsibility for your actions- unlike my parents.

Hi, genuinely curious, given your personal experience as a child of a big family, why did you decide to have five children yourself? Honestly not judging, just curious! 😊

IndigoBluey · 25/07/2026 23:30

@ForeverDelayedEpiphany I initially thought the same and on paper it is true. However, there is something meaningful and a great deal of pride in having spent time developing yourself, education, building a career and ultimately being respected , along with having a purpose in life that is beyond or in addition to raising kids and managing a household.

The OP might feel smug for now, hanging on to our hardworking coat tails as we continue to climb the career ladder (and in parallel paying higher rate tax to support the work shy) but what the OP hasn’t considered here, financially, is what her situation looks longer term. Once those sprogs for benefits have leap frogged the pond, where does the golden cash come from? And at her age, what on earth does retirement look like?

OP @WorldCupSadnessmentions she doesn’t need to rely on a man for anything. This isn’t true. OP’s benefits statistically will be largely paid for by the male taxpayer. So almost fully reliant on random male strangers. A very bizarre situation and not one I’d been publicising
