Scared 😅

OP posts:

basketsmash · 25/07/2026 18:35

@PearlButtonsI think 32% is fairly significant, most people would advise a lower proportion spent on a mortgage.

Do you think she should get more?

basketsmash · 25/07/2026 18:39

@tingsI never said she lived in a council house.

Why are you saying her dc will end up on benefits?

basketsmash · 25/07/2026 18:41

@PearlButtonsI don’t know how the calculation works and what the money after rent is for. How much is childcare for example? Im surprised the OP can house 8 people for 1.3k though.

Do you think she should get less?

As I said above I wouldn’t have 7 dc for 4k in benefits, I couldn’t live on that.

@Askingforafriendtodayits like banging your head against a wall.

For the people at the back

We have more over 65 yr olds than under 15s in the UK!!!!

In the 60s it was 5 workers to 1 pensioner, we are now at 3:1 & not far off 2:1 hence why all governments have pushed immigration the last few decades.

What happens when all the additional workers we need now retire and get old, we are just kicking the can down the road

Portakalkedi · 25/07/2026 18:47

OP you seem quite goady and pleased with yourself at your large income which seems to be almost entirely paid for by the taxpayer, many of whom will have only as many children as they can afford to, and can only live in lower priced rental properties than they would perhaps like. Don't you have any comprehension (or maybe you do hence the goady thread) of how you come across to others? Your children are also surely aware of how you are judged, right or wrong, and that's sad.

Amigagatuna · 25/07/2026 18:49

Why fid uou have seven children? Were they planned???

Around 4k a month (includes rent)

so you get the equivalent of £50K gross income a year on UC, plus child allowance, plus child maintenance, plus your own income.

Tell me I'm wrong as it sounds like you are very well off .

no time . if that is wrong do me a favour and offer the maths.

Crazybigtoe · 25/07/2026 18:54

Monthly:

CMS: 1100
Income(net) : 1133
UC 4000
CB (assumes 7 eligible) 582

Rent £1300

Salary amount above is net of tax. tax of £23 per month is paid on the £14k gross annual salary.

Total household income (not including eligibility to all other discounts etc) £6815. To have this as a net salary (IE take home) you would need a gross income of £132,000... But would have less disposable income (is would be worse off every month) as wouldn't be eligible for FSM etc would also not be eligible for things as wide ranging as any childcare help, small things like discount on family days out, grants or higher loans for university etc etc etc etc

Why do the dad who see their kids need to
be supervised?

What makes you think I was talking to you unless you've managed to name change?

If you don't have time, why are you on Mumsnet?

Butterflyarms · 25/07/2026 18:56

How do you feed your family? Do you end up cooking five different meals every night? What's your monthly food bill? Are they all turning out well or are there any you have to keep an eye on in terms of education, behaviour, etc?

Animatic · 25/07/2026 18:58

@HollyhocksandPeonsI am more comfortable paying tax towards the OP & here dc vs other beneficiaries of my tax. We need to invest in the young & there really aren’t many people having 7 dc for it to be an issue.

Same here. I have one child, work insane hours and am additional rate tax payer. OP does sound level headed and pleasant, despite 7 children from different dads. I do wish her success.

Sooose · 25/07/2026 18:59

Are you an absolute earth mother? Always wanted lots of children, takes it all in her stride?

Or is it really really hard? (I'm sure I would find it really really hard)

Do you have extended family around to help out?

Do you take them on holiday? What works best for that? Camping? Self catering?

Chiefunderling · 25/07/2026 19:02

I’m genuinely happy you & your lovely family are supported OP ❤️ You sound like a great Mum & your dedication & attempts to better your circumstances & expand your horizons through education are admirable. I too am a lifelong learner & believe education is never wasted.

I can’t understand why anyone would begrudge you & your children a decent standard of living. People need to get angry about the super rich & wealthy avoiding tax, not a Mum receiving support to raise her children. You & your family aren’t the problem here & never will be.

I don’t have any children so it all balances out. You had a few for me 😉 My Mum is one of 8 so big families are nothing out of the ordinary to me. Wishing you & your lovely bunch all the very best op ❤️

basketsmash · 25/07/2026 19:03

@sittingonabeachthe can has already been kicked down the road. We are already feeling the consequences of ageing population & the lack of planning. I am not sure what point you are trying to make?

Bringemout · 25/07/2026 19:03

If you could do it all again would you still have had this many children? Did you have kids with every man you were in a relationship with? Do you think with 4 baby dads your childrens lives have been unstable and all this will cause them problems later? My parents weren’t great and I’m a fuck up in many ways but DC dad is amazing and If our relationship broke down I wouldn’t have anymore children with anyone else or have them around a succession of men. I just don’t understand the choices you made, did you think about your existing children every time you had a child with a new man?

chickenpotnoodle · 25/07/2026 19:04

No questions - just well done you for getting to where you are in life and not giving up, you will have a lovely hectic and busy life filled with love and children - and one day grandchildren - doesn't matter how you did it - but YOU DID IT on your own 💪

I didn’t see where you posted anything to back up your claims?

basketsmash · 25/07/2026 19:07

@Animaticagree

Crochetandtea · 25/07/2026 19:09

Do you feel embarrassed that you can’t support your own children ?
Why have you never gotten sterilised?
Are you a woman who only feels complete with a man ?
How many men have lived in your house with your children?
Do you think they will have a fucked up view of parenthood and relationships?
How many hours do you work ?

Bepo77 · 25/07/2026 19:10

Oppositesituation · 25/07/2026 15:02

I just feel so disheartened reading this thread. So bloody disheartened.
Would've loved to have 3 children but had to think realistically and take things such as childcare etc costs into account.
Meanwhile, other people take zero responsibility for their life choices and just go with the flow because they know the taxpayer will pick up the tab. The country is in a massive debt but no politician is brave enough to switch off the benefit tap.
If they did and if people knew they weren't getting everything handed out to them, they would (hopefully) be more responsible.
Anyone else feels the same?

Yep, this thread has genuinely made me depressed. Literally what is the point of working hard. Unless I get lucky and become a millionaire, I'm just working hard to make slightly more money than people doing almost nothing.

I don't need to?

I've already told you it's available to you on Google.

I'm not your maid.
