I was in prison about 18 years ago, between the ages of 19-22. I now volunteer with charities supporting female prisoners. AMA

If i had heard this about my mother or my kids heard this about me, whilst primary age, it would have become their entire focus upon hearing as to WHY??? WHEN?? HOW LONG? And basically just question after question because they (and me) have never known anyone who’s been to prison (as far as I know!)

I'd say that would be a natural response if jail time was an unusual thing among your family, @Just2please; less so perhaps when (as here) it isn't

What I do find intriguing is OP's many references to their current arrangements being "legitimate". Given the UK's known reoffending rates and that this family's riven with criminality that seems surprising, but for me the question is "Would you risk having a cleaner who's been jailed repeatedly, or for that matter anyone they chose to employ, in your house?" and the obvious answer would be no

Op how did you feel when, a few years back, all of that "defund police" was everywhere in the USA? Did you see it through a different lens to most?

Do you think you have any lasting mental health effects from your ordeal?

I have long covid, I need a lot of rest and sleep to only be partly functional. How do you think I'd fare in prison, hypothetically?

They are banned by MN and re register. Repeatedly. Sometimes many times in a day.

That's hard to say because I probably wouldn't have got with my husband and he had this specific business on the go and the cleaning ended itself to that.

What I can say is that I'd more than likely be with someone who has or wants a business of some sort and I'd have been involved with that in whatever way it made sense.

You sound incredibly resilient and stoic. I think I would have been so bitter if this had happened to me and I find your acceptance of the situation to be truly remarkable. Do you think that you always had these characteristics or did they develop and emerge as a result of being in prison? Was it sink or swim and you knew you had to swim and to survive you needed to find a level of peace with it?

Out of interest how do you know that these all belong to the same person and that the person was banned under their previous account names?

I’m not trying to be argumentative, but that troll is a particularly unpleasant one and it can be upsetting for posters when they think seven or eight posters are being horrible when it’s the same person.

I get that but I thought that mumsnet had methods to determine if someone is a previously banned poster, by looking at device IDs and IP addresses etc... I just don't know how they could re-register so quickly to allow them to continue posting on this thread... why would anyone be so invested in doing this?

I agree if they are being unpleasant they should be called out to the OP, as she is being very honest and it is quite abusive to just taunt someone who has exposed something very raw about their life. I just didn't know how you knew that is all.

They can and do. Trust me. I report them every time and they come back pretty rapidly they always target the same threads.
