I was in prison about 18 years ago, between the ages of 19-22. I now volunteer with charities supporting female prisoners. AMA

Your younger kids have heard about mum going to prison for 3 years but didn’t ask questions??? How old are they?

In Primsry school. No, they're more interested in playing and stuff.

Very young primary?

They heard that their mum was in prison and they have honestly not asked any questions?

It isnt a secret so they hear about it. Yeah my son has told some friends.

But how did the conversation go? Or was it always just…. Mum went to prison

I'm not repeating answers over and over. No. They haven't been particularly interested as of yet.

I explained this just a fee posts ago. My eldest son was born not long after so he's heard it mentioned all his life.

Not particularly male guards. People who want easy access to vulnerable targets are often attracted to that job.

Do you think male prisoners who say they are women should be in women's prisons?

Also are the female prison officers who take advantage usually wanting to please someone, make money off smuggling things in, or what's their motivation?

I was interested to see you thought Waiting for the Out was realistic. What struck you about it?

This is strange, and I am sure you can appreciate that…
to express no interest in hearing your mum was in prison!

are you the only member of your family to have gone to prison? When you walked in to the prison for the first time to start your sentence, had you ever been in one before?

Either way, it must have been terrifying?

I don't think women's prisons should have male guards, let alone prisoners.

There are some guards who are vulnerable in their own way and they are forced to do things for prisoners. Others just want to be in with criminals, money or respect. Some women do it because they really want a "bad boy". In women's prisons, the officers that do things like that usually just want to make money.

I liked the characters in that show. Also I did meet some diferent staff members who were like the protagonist in terms of background.

No, I'm not so yes I had been in a prison before. Male prison, though.

I was nervous but not terrified.

How would you feel and respond if one of your children was imprisoned?

Puzzledandpissedoff · Yesterday 15:38

This repeated and widespread criminality isn't my world and probably isn't yours, @Phyllis1, but given that OP said a number of other relatives have been jailed and that it now turns out she herself haws been imprisoned before, perhaps the kids have come to regard it as not terribly surprising?

Depends what it was for. On the whole, I'd wonder why they felt the need to make quick money as I'd assume it was related to that.

I think that might be partly true, but we also live in London and so they see people getting arrested or chased fairly often. My 2 youngest saw a car in front of us get stopped at gunpoint just a few weeks ago. I think you do become immune to it in a way.

Would you be scared for them going to prison?

Yeah but I worry about them going anywhere without us so it would be that intensified.

i guess that would explain the utter disinterest of the younger kids to learning by their mother had been to prison.

If i had heard this about my mother or my kids heard this about me, whilst primary age, it would have become their entire focus upon hearing as to WHY??? WHEN?? HOW LONG? And basically just question after question because they (and me) have never known anyone who’s been to prison (as far as I know!)

Devastated? That their freedom curtailed? That this would no doubt follow them for life depending on their career path

No, I don't tend to be as bleak as that because most people I know who have been to prison are legitimately successful now. Acting that way would be no help to my child

I am a cleaner in the business me and my husband built. He started it and then we expanded it in the early part of our relationship. It's consistent.

That's another dubious charge

She seemed to be taking it on the chin and I’ve often thought about her. Did she go to prison? Is she okay? She said she was due in court for sentencing and we never heard from her again.

@Lexibletheflexible your thread has been targeted by a persistent troll. A lot of the provocative questions are the same poster, they get banned and then return so it looks like lots of people asking very inflammatory questions; it isn’t, it’s the same person.
