I've noticed that there seem to be a certain perception of police on here... particularly as a partner/spouse. I'm married to a police officer and there is definitwly a certain lifestyle that goes with this so AMA!

Solidarity OP, my DH is police. It's not a normal job and we don't live normal lives- it revolves around shift patterns, late offs, late notice. It's the most disorganised sector I have ever seen - they are not paid enough for the stress and trama the job causes. Am lucky I have family around and can wfh a couple of days a week, otherwise I dont know how i would hold down a job. I admire and respect what he does, but after 12 years in, he is a changed man. There is absolutely no way in hell I will be letting either of my 2 kids do it. There are some bad coppers- but for every bad one there are 1000 good ones who walk in to work everyday not knowing if they will face abuse, a knife or a gun- maybe for once the press can report on all the good things they do, instead of picking on the bad ones.

Merseymum1980 · 28/11/2025 20:06

Do a lot of police find these weekly protests axwaste of resources when the protests dont make any difference x

YorkshireGoldDrinker · 28/11/2025 20:12

Wow, my question is so not appropriate now I've seen what others have asked 😳

I shall turn around and exit the room 😂

I agree with this, there are some really good police about.

100jamjars · 28/11/2025 20:29

I have a handful of friends who , just because of our social connections, are police officers. And happen to be married to teachers! Who'd have thought that?

Two of the teachers at my daughters' schools are married to police officers.

My very best friend of 30 years was a teacher and is married to a Police Detective. In fact, you could be my niece, who is a teacher and married to a Policeman. It's so weird Loads and loads of teachers are married to loads and loads of Policemen. I mean, what are the chances!?

100jamjars · 28/11/2025 20:32

Notwithstanding what OP has just posted. I was being lighthearted, but of course there are real humans who put themselves at risk.

Shame that there are others who use their authority and powers to abuse.

Are you disappointed he’s ended up in a low pay shift work job with few prospects?

That's a shitty thing to say. If you were being assaulted or burgled or, god forbid, caught in a terror attack, you'd expect the police to be there quick smart wouldn't you? I know there are some bad apples but personally I am thankful and respectful of the people that choose to do public service work like this.

Letthemeatgateau · 28/11/2025 20:41

I was married to a police officer. He was a violent abuser and went to prison for what he did to me. What thoughts does you DH have on why the DV rate perpetrated by police officers is so high?

I think a certain type of man is attracted to policing and if not supported, some other men can be negatively affected by the job.

I'm so sorry you went through this.

Lemonfrost · 28/11/2025 21:18

Hello - another Police wife here. It's nice to see a thread where negative perceptions are challenged.

Tuesdayschild50 · 28/11/2025 21:27

Who would want a police officer as a husband ... I certainly wouldn't.

It is high. Significantly so. Perhaps they get off on the power?

Yeah there’s no prospects at all, just becoming a Sgt, or an Inspector or a Chief Inspector or a Superintendent, hell maybe even Chief one day. What an utterly bizarre comment.

Tuscan12 · 28/11/2025 22:22

Fewer than 1% of police hold the rank of Chief Inspector and that pays just 70k.

If you are in the top 1% of a private company you’ll be on more like 200k+.

70k in a private company is the salary of an anonymous middle manager.

The pay in the police is pitiful. Anyone following that as a career is doing so in spite of the pay not because of it.

Yes, we were both horrified. He says he hasn't seen that in his force.

Really? In his force he hasn’t seen one officer being sexist or misogynistic? At all? What magical police force is this?

Hopingtobeaparent · 29/11/2025 08:40

Blablibladirladada · 28/11/2025 18:42

I feel this is the only question that should be asked here.

Also, she is married to a police officer, not the representant of the police wifey national club :/

Who made you the one to decide?

You don’t have to join in.

It is for those who are interested, which there have been numerous.

Go and troll elsewhere.

He seems pretty unaware of what’s going on around him tbh. Having allowed this thread for a start. It’s basics that you just don’t get involved in social media speculation or discussion, you certainly don’t have your wife start an AMA 🤣

Yet here she is, admitting he knows about it. Fuck me, no wonder the force has gone to rat shit

I hope you feel better now looking down from the dizzy heights of where you live. Tell you what though 200k being a wanker in a corporate job or 70k saving lives. I know who I would rather be

A remarkably ignorant comment. Almost staggeringly so.

I’d be interested to know where you think the money comes from to fund the likes of police jobs?

“Wanker in a corporate job” for starters.

I’ll also add a stunning lack of self awareness to my diagnosis of you.

Right yes me defending those people who put their lives on the line every day, who are spat at, abused and slated left right and centre and do it for average wages because they want to help people. That shows I have a stunning lack of self awareness. Yeah sounds about right 🙄

Comprehension clearly not your strong suit. Have you even read what I have written or have you simply responded based on your own prejudices? I strongly suspect the latter.
