In my 14 years on this earth I have gained more experience and knowledge than anyone else ever so AMA because I will know.

Why can't you tell the difference between a polite request in a neutral tone, and someone literally screaming at you?

lifeonmars100 · 10/08/2025 17:33

I was a bit of a late starter so did not know everything until I was 16. Do you think you might have peaked too soon? Sadly i forgot all that I knew as the years rolled on, do you think that you will be able to retain all your wisdom? Sorry that's two questions but given your supreme brain power I guess you will be able to answer them with no problem

May I ask if you are a boy or a girl. What’s that? You refuse to be defined by such arbitrary categories?

goldsolidgold · 10/08/2025 17:44

I completely agree with you. 14 year olds not only know everything, but they know everything about everything and could write a book on it. And they know a lot better than the adults around them, but obviously need the adults to do things like decorate the house and take them on holiday and clean up any mess. And do the shopping, and cooking. And organise everything. And if there are any mess ups, sort those out too. But otherwise, totally with ya, bro.

PennywisePoundFoolish · 10/08/2025 18:01

Does knowing everything ever feel like a burden?
One of my son's spilled cereal over the kitchen floor and was incredulous that he was made to clear it up, when it was an accident. There was a small piece of rubbish on the floor, I think it was a tie that goes on a bread loaf. Anyway, he kept sweeping it up, then picking it back out, because it was not his mess. Then sweeping it up again. went on at least 5 times. (He was the chief suspect for it being on the floor)

He said I was a terrible mother. Would you agree with this assessment? How much compensation should he get (it was 7 years ago and he maintains this was completely unfair)

wizzbitt · 10/08/2025 18:01

Can you offer advice to me in how to parent my 11 year old as I clearly don’t know?
Do preteens and teenagers grow little muscles at the back of their eyes from all the eye rolling? I was a lovely teen so wouldn’t know 🤥

ZenNudist · 10/08/2025 13:26

Do you do the washing up?

Side question: can you do the washing up without listening to music?

Separate related Q: does doing the washing up take you an unfeasibly long time because you are fiddling on your phone "just listening to music"?

I'm 28 and can't do any housework without having a YouTube vid or podcast on😭

Ontheedgeofit · 10/08/2025 18:02

Is it really that hard to wash a knife after making a peanut butter and jam sandwich? Or do you prefer the mess it leaves on the sink that you have to clean up later?

I would have thought it would be easier to just wash it then and there rather than have to come back later when the ants have invaded the sink in search of the sticky jam but hey… what do I know?

wizzbitt · 10/08/2025 18:02

GeniuneWorkOfFart · 10/08/2025 13:47

Have you got any homework?

Bonus points for saying NO I ALREADY FUCKING TOLD YOU without actually checking.

Oh wow! 😂

Ontheedgeofit · 10/08/2025 18:06

Also it must be amazing to finish the last biscuit, slice of bread, drop of milk, serving of cereal and just return the empty container to where it came from and then roll your eyes and explain how there is nothing to eat the next time you’re hungry. Maybe in all your wisdom you could figure out how to find a self-replenishing grocery cupboard.

AInightingale · 10/08/2025 18:15

Philandbill · 10/08/2025 17:05

And the ordinary scissors too? Oh, and the twenty pritt sticks I've bought and the effing expensive printer ink?
And why do I still love you and your older sister and feel amazed by so much about you?

Yes. Please explain why you needed to finish the entire cartridge of coloured ink printing out an A4 photograph of the cat to put on your wall leaving the printer empty? Especially when it's a black cat for God's sake.

MyOtherProfile · 10/08/2025 18:45

Best AMA. Thanks. I now feel I understand my teens so much better 😂

LOL! (Sorry for using LOL instead of 😄)

ThePieceHall · 10/08/2025 18:49

My nine-year-old wants to know what music she should be listening to so she can impress the older girls. She is mortified that she was happy to listen to Taylor Swift - until today.

I vote this thread goes into mumsnet classics, it’s been very entertaining 🤣

Second that request

arcticpandas · 10/08/2025 20:18

@Daboomboom Can you help me out because I used to know everything (12-20) and then my assurance just faded so right now at 45 I feel I know nothing because there is much I don't know. How can I wind back into the satisfying state of mind of having everything figured out as you seem to have?

Also. Why does my 15 year old autistic son scream at me whenever I try to talk to him about something that doesn't concern what I will give him to eat, when he will have his phone tomorrow to play videogames or jokes including inappropriate behaviour- mostly fart related. If you can't answer that can you please tell me how I get him to be interested in anything except eating, playing video games or inappropriate jokes?

JennyForeigner · 10/08/2025 20:32

Nothing to say except we are so lucky to know you. Thank you so much for blessing us with your knowledge.

ThePieceHall · 10/08/2025 20:38

Daboomboom · 10/08/2025 17:04

Mum has stuck stupid washi tape on them all so they are coloured coded. She got fed up of arguments so now we are only allowed to use leads with our colour on them. It's stupid. I never used anyone else's, they always used mine. She reckons that because she let me chose the colour tape, that it is ok. Its stupid.

Your mum is a genius (obviously apart from when she is being embarrassing, abusive, financially controlling, life-restricting…and everything else bad)

NamechangeRugby · 10/08/2025 20:40

Do you hang up your clothes or fold them away? Do you have a laundry fairy? And if so, are they any good?

Not sure about the eyes, but mine seem to have, through some kind of natural evolution presumably, developed muscles in their ears which they can close - or open - at will! Extraordinary.

Who killed Kennedy and did we REALLY land on the moon?

BeMellowAquaSquid · 10/08/2025 21:16

What does skibbidi actually mean and in what context can I use it?
