I am very hands off when it comes to academics . They are doing well so I trust the teachers to tell me if needed. The house master will contact me if I need to speak or any issues

Interesting.... My DC is starting work at a prestigious boarding school in September. I wonder if it's the same one! I think he'd like parents like you

CarterBeatsTheDevil · 07/08/2025 17:42

You say that, but for a brief moment that shoved me from "would never even consider it" to "is there any chance that I could go at 49?"

I do feel that is a gap in state provision.
The lack of falconry.

I didn’t say you weren’t available to answer, OP, I said your answers contained next to nothing.

No, this is not a court of law - why do you keep saying that? You seem quite uncomfortable about being questioned, which is odd, given that you started this thread.

No. You just seem a bit pushy

Why do you think anyone would be interested? I like my child at home where I can enjoy them growing up.

THEDEACON · 07/08/2025 17:53

Im so uninterested in your boys and boarding school but I am sorry for them !

Ah, sadly not. They don't have falconry😂

It you’re not your.
can you define a parent? Or are you saying it is not your experience ?

I know, I was just typing fast, damn my state school upbringing 😆
It seems like you are the one who unfortunately doesn't know what being a parent entails.

waxymoron · 07/08/2025 17:54

The thing which I notice about boarding/very 'prestigious' private school people - and I know lots of all sorts of people, is the lack, in 90% of them of knowledge of or capacity for interest in, ordinary or normal lifestyles. Money, position, holidays etc...no clue at all, and the arrogance too. No idea at all about anything outside of their world, and usually no desire to learn
That's my experience as an 'older' person who has seen many many of them in my life!

Waitingfordoggo · 07/08/2025 17:50

I was going to ask this but didn’t dare 😂

It helps if you've read Stephen Fry's autobiography. Otherwise, don't look it up...

The world is a small place, it doesnt feel like leaving them. Communication and travel is easy

When they are having a tough time (as all kids do at various points for various reasons) and they need a hug from their mum or to sound out something they’re struggling with, without having to arrange a phone call at a convenient time, and she has chosen to be with their dad instead of with them, surely the world will feel anything but small to them though.

Perhaps you could take up falconry to improve your spelling? 😉

It sounds like you're very hands off when it comes to most aspects of their childhood.

Perhaps he could introduce it.
Start small, with budgies perhaps?

OldieButBaddie · 07/08/2025 17:59

Well that's a bit shit, they had over 60 at my DD's day school!!
What are you paying for fgs 😝

Asunciondeflata · 07/08/2025 16:41

This ⬆️. They're not likely to sit next to the Syrian refugee or the Roma migrant in Maths now, are they?

That’s again another preconceived idea that all refugees are economic immigrants and poor. A lot of refugees from said countries are very well educated and/or well off but had to escape their country because of persecution and war etc. Did studying history not teach you anything?
Surely you’ve heard of the Mardini sisters? These two are just one example who happen to become high profile personalities.

Goodness the prejudice and preconceived ideas on this thread is awful.

Any drug use risks there - what’s the parents’ feeling? Also are there any day pupils and might you have a feeling if they are a minority and feel like outsiders?(Do your boys say, for example, that boarders and day pupils do not mix)? Finally (sorry!) might I ask if you have a feeling about co-ed vs single sex? Thank you

A couple of six formers got expelled for weed 2 years ago.
a lot of vaping.
not the harder stuff thankfully.
a zero tolerance to drugs but a bit too strict these days all round

I would never write proudly on a public parenting forum (let alone practice in real life) a "hands off" attitude to my DCs education.

Interesting take. I personally think a lot about my kids and shaping them
to be the most fulfilled and happy adults they can be

you literally have no idea what is going on do you?!?!

WellThisIsFranklyDreadful · 07/08/2025 18:03

I don’t have a question but just to say I absolutely adored boarding school. The people who are so passionately against it really don’t get what it’s actually like!

Hands off with their academics. They do just fine without my input !! Teachers are far more on’it than i am.

Why did you bother having children if you’re not going to raise them?
