Also, I went back to work after two weeks and found fire doors really took it out of me and I hadn’t considered those, you know the type in office buildings

Welcome @mrslaviniachandelier

you won’t regret it

Agree heavy doors at work were awful.

@mrslaviniachandelier there’s a Ben something who gets mentioned in Scotland a lot, people really rate him.

Singletrackmind · 13/08/2024 20:27

@mrslaviniachandelier hi! Well done you, get researching & on this 😀 I was 54 a couple of weeks ago & am 1 year post op. Life changing.

It’s Ben Chew in Glasgow that gets great reviews but believe he works with at least one other surgeon who also comes highly recommended. Very likely they operate at several across the region/ closer to you 👍

Madagascary · 13/08/2024 21:34

I’m a bit meh about superstar surgeons. I wonder if they just have very good social media.

I remember my guy was several thousand pounds less in Sally Hughes or whatever who did it the year before. Some of this is because he’s not in London but also I just think if people are absolutely paying for the image rather than any real difference.stuff

OP posts:
Madagascary · 13/08/2024 21:34

I did literally no research, went for the guy who done my sons nose operation who I liked and it was great

OP posts:
Madagascary · 13/08/2024 21:35

Also the end of my last check up my guy gave me the link to all those plastic surgery review websites and I thought about doing it and then I thought what’s in this for me? What does this actually say different to everybody else. It’s all self selecting and I’m very dubious about it

OP posts:
Singletrackmind · 13/08/2024 22:08

FWIW Ben Chew seems very low key on that front, just seen him recommended by ‘word of mouth’ in the BR Facebook pages. Sali Hughes’ surgeon (Patrick Malucci) is one of those ‘London celeb’ surgeons & someone I know used him & summarised him as ‘very competent but a total !!! 😂

Madagascary · 14/08/2024 09:28

Lol

mrslaviniachandelier · 14/08/2024 13:52

Thanks for all the encouragement. It’s such a great point about reviews, I rarely give online reviews and agree it’s very self selecting. I will book a couple of initial consultations as I also want to feel confident in the surgeon I choose. I will post an update!

Bigtitsbettyforgotherpassword · 14/08/2024 14:40

My surgeon has no professional social media presence whatsoever. I went on a personal recommendation.

Heartfullofcheese · 14/08/2024 18:02

Mine isn’t super well known but the minute I met him I just liked him. I was right to trust my instincts as I felt he had my best interests at heart the whole time.

Summerdew · 14/08/2024 18:11

Mine is well known, but I picked him on the basis he was recommended by my oncologist and he specialises in breast cancer reconstruction. It’s only after this that I realised he does celebs, although is social media presence isn’t massive.

Singletrackmind · 14/08/2024 19:30

I didn’t really appreciate until after I’d chosen/ booked just how many surgeons there are in the Uk doing this … there’s A LOT … so it really is just about deciding what your key criteria are & then narrowing it down. May have said this before but I realised that I didn’t necessarily have to ‘like’ them. I just needed to be confident in their professional competence in all scenarios. I wanted, someone who had done a lot of boobs, worked on reconstruction etc, for them to be a female surgeon & for it to be local to me … worked out well 😀

I thought the exact same thing!

in fact I thought god I look like that but with shorter chubbier legs 😂

P.S. The counsellor has signed me off and I am hopeful to be having a reduction at the end of October 🤞

Thank you all again, you’ve no idea how much this group has helped me.

Bigtitsbettyforgotherpassword · 15/08/2024 20:57

I’ve just watched it and said to the husband that she needs a reduction. Apparently mine were that big.

Madagascary · 16/08/2024 08:37

Like me (us?) it’s t shirts
although when she started running, I thought oh no, but she seemed okay.

They are just totally disproportionate, like mine were

So glad I found this thread!

I’ve been considering a breast reduction for a while. Hadn’t thought about speaking with my GP about an NHS referral.

I was referred to the breast clinic earlier this year for pain, had the usual mammogram, thankfully all was ok.
The pain hasn’t really gone, it’s one sided but I do now think it’s size related. Have to sleep in a soft bra for a bit of comfort at night.

Am post menopause which I feel is a factor.

Can I ask, is it worth going the NHS route with so many ops being cancelled/rearranged?

Bigtitsbettyforgotherpassword · 19/08/2024 06:36

@Shallysally hello.
Check your local CCG/ICB guidelines for criteria for a reduction on NHS. My local ones have so many tight criteria that it’s almost impossible to get one even though technically they are available. For me it wasn’t even worth trying.

Madagascary · 19/08/2024 07:22

I didn’t even consider trying, though I had just inherited some money when my dad died. I think that’s why so many women in their early 50s have them.

Firstly menopause boobs which are not good, secondly the time to focus on themselves, and thirdly an inheritance.

Shallysally · 19/08/2024 07:32

Thank you @Bigtitsbettyforgotherpassword I’ll contact them today.

Neither had I until I read some posts on this thread @Madagascary. Worth a try, otherwise it’ll be finding a surgeon and probably paying via finance.

Blimmingboobs · 19/08/2024 07:49

I tried the NHS route and the biggest hurdle for me was the BMI restriction. I’d start to lose weight but then be even more self-conscious and end up self-sabotaging.

In an awful twist of fate I have just saved up for it to be done and my dad died during the same week as my first private consultation.

But I do agree that by your fifties you have both had enough and saved enough (if you are lucky).

starsinyourpies · 29/08/2024 08:57

Hi all I have really appreciated reading this group! I have my second appointment with a surgeon today ahead of booking a breast reduction. Any tips on questions I make sure I ask? It's Thomas Chapman at Gloucester in case anyone has a view on him. So excited to finally get this done!!
