Following on from our epic first thread I had a breast reduction

We are a group of ladies who have breast reductions for a number of reasons and are all at different stages of recovery.

I had a breast reduction AMA | Mumsnet

I had a breast reduction two weeks ago. I’ve gone from a 34GG/H to a 34D. Crack on with any questions!

Thanks @Bigtitsbetty !

Thanks @Bigtitsbetty !
Love how this has grown into a little community 😊

Scaryclare24 · 20/08/2023 16:46

Oh I’m so happy to see this thread, I have just booked a consultation for November to see about getting a reduction privately as I cannot cope with the neck/shoulder pain and constant migraines, please tell me it will help ease it even a little bit x

Thecountdownn · 20/08/2023 17:04

Thanks for the new thread. There is some research to say reduction of migraines and headaches occurred and was reported but it wasn’t the purpose of the study. Maybe we should do our own study here.

Bigtitsbetty · 20/08/2023 17:16

@Scaryclare24 Welcome! If our last thread is anything to go by I don’t think you’ll get anything other than positive feedback. Most of us had to go private.

Personally I have never had migraines but I am sure someone here might know.

@Thecountdownn Im surprised there’s any research at all to be honest. I’m also surprised we haven’t had a journos wanting to a piece about it.

I get migraines, no change so far but I’m still only 2.5 weeks post op so perhaps a bit early.

FutureThroughLensOfThePast · 20/08/2023 17:37

Joining as I would love one.

Madagascary · 20/08/2023 17:54

Yay for the new thread!

update on my circs
53 yo
op in late November
private South Coast
with lipo and skin excision £9.5
went from 34F/G to 34D
lost 2.5 kg in total

Madagascary · 20/08/2023 17:55

I had no side-effects of big tits, apart from hating them.

Looking back, I did have a sore bottom of my neck /top of my shoulders, but I thought that was me bending over a computer. Don’t get it now
before no headaches, no chafing no rashes.

Billybagpuss · 20/08/2023 17:55

I had one 15 years ago happy to be asked questions too. Honestly best thing I ever did.

Madagascary · 20/08/2023 17:57

I’ve posted under the wrong name, so I will get it changed now

ohcrums · 20/08/2023 18:00

Do you find it is easier or harder to find clothes that fit?

Do you get to choose what size you go down to?

Does your nipple placement move?

Madagascary · 20/08/2023 18:00

Guys there’s also a bbc 3 programme about it.

It’s incredible, the clothes issue, particularly in summer. On the last thread, I posted some pictures of tops I could never wear- bikini or otherwise -I would not of been able to before.

Madagascary · 20/08/2023 18:02

Surgeons can’t guarantee a size because of blood vessels or something like this, but you can discuss whether you want to stay relatively curvy or go as small as you can.
But the size is not the issue the main issue- and I can’t reiterate this enough / is that your boobs are lifted and high, and you could go to the shops without a bra on

Nipples do get repositioned, as I was so big mine had to be detached completely and reattached so had I had any more dc I wouldn’t have been able to breastfeed but that wasn’t going to be a problem.

clothes so much easier to fit, I went down from an optimistic G to a DD I’m now an F after 15 years but normal clothes fit, I don’t have to wear oversized T shirts or shapeless tunic tops any more.

Singletrackmind · 20/08/2023 18:58

So like @Madagascary I arguably didn't have any major side effects from having big boobs other than I hated them with a passion and they made me miserable ... age 53 I'd decided I'd done enough time with them.

I never went the NHS route as from the research I did I could see there were women out there far more deserving of that than me .. I just saved the cash. Cost was £9.5k/ south west/ included lipo 'for shape' .. which as it turns out is probably the most sore bit 😂

Only 2.5weeks post op same as @Martinisarebetterdirty so way too early to say on lots of the questions like what size I will be etc as they are still mighty swollen 😬But as has been said they are seriously lifted!!

I won't need new clothes as the ones I have just fit a whole load better ... zip up tops actually zip up 😁!! I may though in the future be able to buy swimwear ... you'll need to flit to the other thread to see what's in store!

Martinisarebetterdirty · 20/08/2023 19:05

43, wonky boobs post breast cancer around 14 years ago, was a 30G (but spilling over sometimes).

Cost 12.6 at the London Clinic with someone who specialises in post cancer reconstruction. Includes some side lipo for shape, agree this is the most sore!
Have bought some new clothes with different necklines as my v necks are now very low.

Bigtitsbetty · 20/08/2023 19:27

Surgery last September
48 years old at time of surgery
Private hospital in East Midlands
525gm removed from each breast
cost £7400
34GG/H to a 34D/32E

I had an anchor incision so my nipples were repositioned but not removed. I didn’t really have any problems physically but I couldn’t find clothes or exercise because they were so big. I was really unhappy. So happy now.

I’m 16 days post op, mid 50s, had just had enough of the weight/size/rashes/inability to buy clothes.
Was around a JJ maybe more. Not sure what I’ll be yet but around a D to a DD. 1.5 kg gone in total but not evenly. I think the more they take the more risk in terms of blood loss/healing etc.
So far I recommend although the recovery is a bit boring - not particularly painful though.
My old clothes either fit better or are too big depending but I’m waiting for a bit more settling.
You really notice the difference in weight on your front which is fabulous.
I didn’t even try NHS, paid just over 8k. Worth every penny.

HoliHormonalTigerLillyTheSecond · 20/08/2023 19:43

What's the likelihood they'll grow back?

Occitane · 20/08/2023 19:45

I was supposed to have a reduction last month, but the surgeon cancelled three days before because he was concerned about my BMI. I am fine with that, but I was annoyed that he told me then, not at my initial consultation, when he said my weight would not be a problem. I am trying to lose weight, it's very difficult, but I have managed to lose about half a stone so far.

Bigtitsbetty · 20/08/2023 19:51

HoliHormonalTigerLillyTheSecond · 20/08/2023 19:43

I believe that breast tissue can grow back especially during menopause but I’m post menopausal so I’m hoping it won’t be an issue. Even it does happen I can cope with it because it would take a long time for them to get back to where they were.

OP posts:
Bigtitsbetty · 20/08/2023 19:52

@Occitane that does sound annoying. My surgeon wouldn’t operate if BMI is over 30 because a lot of the breast could be fat rather than breast tissue.
