Following on from our epic first thread I had a breast reduction

We are a group of ladies who have breast reductions for a number of reasons and are all at different stages of recovery.

I had a breast reduction AMA | Mumsnet

I had a breast reduction two weeks ago. I’ve gone from a 34GG/H to a 34D. Crack on with any questions!

Hi all, some of you might know that I booked to have a bit of guidance with a personal trainer at the gym so I could learn what machines to use and not make a dick of myself. I had my op in November.

Well I started at the beginning of July and because I’ve been on holiday all summer I’ve gone for half an hour most days probably five out of seven days by the time you get there and back it’s an hour.

well, the results are in and I’ve lost over a kilo of fat, as this machine tells you what your body fat is and I’ve managed to lose a couple of kilos while still eating and drinking for Britain and I just feel so much stronger.

It does this thing where it works out your metabolic age and I’ve gone down to 41 and 53 in rl.

so now I feel that the whole stomach to boob ratio is a lot better. And I would say if you think the gym is not for you find yourself a friendly personal trainer, be quite explicit in what you do want as advice and what you don’t want (I said I didn’t want any food or nutrition advice) and make sure you get along with them, and it makes all the difference.

in other news, the scar from the skin excision (to remove the flesh left after liposuction for axillary tissue) has got loads better and I showed my friend last night. She couldn’t believe how almost invisible it is now.

on the other side of my body, I just had Lipo and no skin excision, and you could only see the whole whether Lipo was for a month or so

That’s brilliant! Well done.
I can’t wait to start exercising but I’m still quite sore underneath so need to be careful. However I just tried a size 16 dress WITH BUTTONS and it was fine. Normally I’d get 18-20 and wouldn’t even attempt buttons. So that’s encouraging.

For those contemplating - I’m on 3 weeks now and feel like I’ve really turned a corner in terms of discomfort the last few days. I can sleep on my side with a bit of extra support and everything just feels a bit less tight and terrifying. I’m very lucky that I’ve had the holidays to recover I know.

Hope everyone is ok 😀

Madagascary · 26/08/2023 13:18

Buttons!! Amazing.

Notooserious · 26/08/2023 18:42

@Madagascary I too have bought shirts in a 16 with buttons!!!!! Amazing. I am now 9 weeks post op and feel like they have more or less settled, though they are still sore, but I am desperate to get back to the gym and skating, so I will ask the consultant when I see him this week what I can do with the big hole still in one of the girls. How are others at this stage feeling about exercise?

Madagascary · 26/08/2023 19:03

You can walk/ squat /lunge and stuff? Just not weights.

Singletrackmind · 26/08/2023 20:57

Yeah @HeartfullofcheeseI defo feel like some stuff has eased the last few days too. I’ve been thinking about exercise today as I’m starting to feel like I could do more than walking. Pre-op I’d be in the gym 3-4 times a week+ biking on the weekends - go @Madagascary sounds like you are kicking arse 😀. I’m very lucky I have an amazing PT who is also a great friend & has been primed to help me get back in shape!

But I’m conscious that marching into the gym & loading up the barbell is clearly not on the cards 😂 Gonna see how the 4 week check goes next week & then slowly introduce some stationary bike/ lower body stuff + see what I can do about the belly that doesn’t upset anything from the waist up.

Buttons though 🙌

Notooserious · 26/08/2023 21:44

@Singletrackmind I just want to go and lift heavy things over my head - it makes me feel good in a way I can’t describe, like role playing He-Man or something 🤣 But obviously that is not going to happen so I have to lower my expectations and be patient. As you say, @Madagascary legs stuff, walking, squats, bike will have to do me for now. Been through enough nonsense with this blooming hole that pushing it now is not wise!

I had one done in 2004, at a young 20s age… breastfeed DD1 when we had her a lot of years later. Happy to answer any questions.

This is something inenof my DDs is considering (32HH). Possible breastfeeding issues in the future are giving her pause. It's reassuring to see you managed it.

StubbleTurnips · 26/08/2023 21:59

I could only feed from one side and ended up mixed feeding. Worked for me for DD1, not for DS though. Found the midwife and breastfeeding support are not geared up to advise about it at all.

Madagascary · 27/08/2023 07:55

@Singletrackmind that sounds fabulous. The money you get in there and get that familiar ache in your thighs you’ll feel great, and more importantly you’ll feel like you’re doing something

Singletrackmind · 27/08/2023 11:28

@Notooserious absolutely .. yes .. big compound lifts for the win 😎 .. but I'm so conscious that the internal healing will take some time and I want it to be a one way trajectory so it will be legs for the time being!!! totally right @Madagascary love that feeling.

Notooserious · 29/08/2023 15:38

I’ve managed a couple of ten minute walks today as well as some sorting out of stuff. Not really big lifts but more exercise than I’ve had in two months! The hole in my boob has suddenly filled from the bottom
and is now more just a dip than a hole so I am hoping that when I see the consultant tomorrow he will say that I don’t have to keep going back every few days.

youngestisapsycho · 29/08/2023 15:44

do you think 18 is too young to have a reduction? I would love my daughter to have one.... she hates her boobs... she is only 17 now, size 34 K! she hates them

Martinisarebetterdirty · 29/08/2023 18:53

Without patronising your daughter yes 18 is too young in my opinion. Mine grew a lot between 18 and 35 and I’d have ended up having two operations. I also think that I wouldn’t have been in a good position with the scars at 18, now I don’t give two hoots but at 18 it would have been tough.

Madagascary · 29/08/2023 18:56

I get. both sides of the argument - she needs to know she might need another one in her 50s.

But who out of us would not have wished to enjoyed being young with smaller tits?

Mine werent even that big then but were still a THING

Madagascary · 29/08/2023 18:58

My H couldn't have been more supportive about my boob reduction and is so happy with my satisfaction their progress as they healed

BUT I do notice now if I am wearing something where you can see a hint of scar he points it out. Eg swimwear or this am my pyjama top was gaping.

Weird isnt it'? Any of you lot got anything to add on this topic?

finallyitshapoen · 29/08/2023 19:05

Anyone regret?

Madagascary · 29/08/2023 19:10

finallyitshapoen · 29/08/2023 19:05

Anyone regret?

NO NO NO AND more

It is the best op EVER

annahay · 29/08/2023 19:18

I would love a reduction. I think I'd need to get some weight off first though to be safer. When I was at my slimmest I was a 32F but now im around a 38J (though not 100% sure as I need a post pregnancy re measure). Im so jealous of people with normal size boobs. I feel like mine look ridiculous.

Madagascary · 29/08/2023 19:24

If this won't motivate a diet then... ;)

Singletrackmind · 29/08/2023 19:41

@youngestisapsycho it’s a tough one. I hated my boobs at that age & researched reductions but it was the 80s there was no internet & my parents wld never have helped me. With hindsight I think I would have benefited from it then. But I’m saying that with wisdom I have now!
Things to consider.
Is she a healthy weight/ a petite frame with huge boobs or would weight loss help?
Does she want children & want to be able to breast feed?
Does she truly understand what the operation entails & what the recovery will involve/ what the scarring will look like?
Is she prepared for a scenario where she doesn’t like the outcome?
Does she understand that children, weight change, hormonal factors later in life may change the result she has when she’s young?
It is major surgery and I would explore all options to understand it fully.
HTHs

Singletrackmind · 29/08/2023 19:46

@Notooserious very glad the hole is resolving & yay to getting out 😀
@finallyitshapoen no I don’t… but I’m still adjusting I think … and it not the immediate satisfaction that I think some people get
@Madagascary … he ain’t seen them yet 😬… not ready!!!

Martinisarebetterdirty · 29/08/2023 20:19

No regrets here, but again a work in progress. DP has seen mine, he changed my tapes and did the initial moisturising as I felt a bit sick with it (I’m a fainter and squeamish). He just tells me they look great and are healing well, I think if I hadn’t shown him straight away it would have taken a while to psych myself up to it. Mine were not lovely before though as I already had post cancer scaring.
Yes you’re right @Madagascary I would have loved this at 18, and would have loved it over the years since, but I also would have been gutted to have to have it twice and I also wouldn’t have had the confidence to whip my top off with the scars with new partners.

Singletrackmind · 29/08/2023 20:58

@Martinisarebetterdirty your DP sounds fab. Mine knows I’ll show him when I’m ready! It’s my 4 week check this week so will be good to chat progress.

Madagascary · 29/08/2023 21:06

Yy. I couldn’t look myself for ages
