Following on from our epic first thread I had a breast reduction

We are a group of ladies who have breast reductions for a number of reasons and are all at different stages of recovery.

I had a breast reduction AMA | Mumsnet

I had a breast reduction two weeks ago. I’ve gone from a 34GG/H to a 34D. Crack on with any questions!

Cheesy. How was your night

LilyGlobe · 22/08/2023 08:52

I’m having my op on 2nd October. I’m 37, 30J and surgeon has said he thinks a D/DD would be a good size for me. He’ll have to do a little bit of lipo on one side and has warned me this will be the most painful part of recovery. He has said I’ll still be “big” and will need to wear a bra which confuses me as I’d hoped to be lifted a bit too. I think he was probably managing my expectations.
I’m going to have another consultation with him before the operation so I’ll get a list of questions together for that. I’m going to read the last thread to get an idea of what I should ask.

Costing £8k on south coast.

Madagascary · 22/08/2023 09:00

I think your surgeon sounds realistic.

I think if they take too much tissue away, it affects the sensitivity.
it will definitely be lifted, that’s the best result of surgery.

If you look back on the old thread , you can see that definitely, my liposuction hurt, or rather was sore. It’s not like stabbing pain or anything for quite a long time, but that being able to wear sleeveless tops is just brilliant. I had axillary breast tissue - maybe you do?- and wanted some underarm boob removed.

I’d said c or as small as he could. And got this (sorry for repeat post old timers)

Madagascary · 22/08/2023 09:01

(And welcome @LilyGlobe !!)

Madagascary · 22/08/2023 09:02

@Notooserious hope your recovery continues. It’s very annoying to find yourself to be the one that gets the symptoms that don’t think anybody gets. 🫤

Martinisarebetterdirty · 22/08/2023 09:04

My liposuction is the worst bit, definitely. Still quite sore and the scarring is still very pronounced there, can barely see around my right nipple or the nipple to “smile” lines. Left nipple, still looks scabbed but I did have some minor bleeding when I took my dressings off so that’s to be expected.
How is everyone doing?

Heartfullofcheese · 22/08/2023 10:03

I think I will be D to DD @LilyGlobe and it’s fine. They are much higher and perkier and fit fine with the rest of me. I’ll need to wear bras but the bras will be substantially smaller ha ha. I think if he’d taken me to a “bra-less” size I’d look very weird.
Also- the more they take the more complicated it is so there’s more risk of healing issues - that’s what my surgeon said.

We might need a timeline of surgeries so we can wish everyone luck at the right time?

Singletrackmind · 22/08/2023 13:07

Good to hear from everyone 😀I think it’s important to not get too hung up on bra size!
I asked for small/light/perky. They are light and perky but still pretty swollen so I’m not sure how they will settle yet. I have no intention of measuring for the foreseeable future as I’ll be sticking to sports type/ soft bras which I will still need cause as has been said, it’s mot realistic to have no tits without significant compromise.

Occasionally I worry that they are still big - not least because none of my colleagues have noticed! But if I look at before pics & the progress ones I’m taking there is a clear/ massive difference … as I may have said before - my moles are visible or in a completely different place now 😂

I’m still sore from the lipo but pretty functional/ just avoiding heavy lifting etc.

Bigtitsbetty · 22/08/2023 15:03

These were my boobs two weeks after surgery in a 34D bra. I don’t want @Madagascary being the only one showing off her wares. I don’t have to wear a bra but I usually do. My bras are substantially cheaper these days.

@Notooserious I’m sorry you’ve had complications. Hopefully once you’ve healed you will feel it was worth it.

Just to add I’m a bit chunky and did not have lipo. I have quite wide boobs so going too small would’ve made them look weird.

i LOVE that colour bra!! Don 't you look amazing. perfect shape

Magpiecomplex · 22/08/2023 16:10

Thanks to you ladies I have finally found the courage to do this! GP is referring me (I was offered a reduction on the NHS decades ago, don't know if I'm still eligible) and I'm back on the diet in the meantime.

Madagascary · 22/08/2023 16:30

Welcome @Magpiecomplex the diet. Sounds like a great idea because obviously it’s easier when you’re having anaesthetic but also as we will all tell you that once your boobs are made small, your stomach looks bigger!!

Magpiecomplex · 22/08/2023 16:40

Thanks @Madagascary! I have quite a lot of weight to lose, but I've already been warned the referral is likely to be quite slow, so hopefully it should work out well.

WedTheBed · 22/08/2023 16:44

Sorry I’m new to this thread and with two children running around I cannot read the entire thing, can anyone update on what size they went from and to?

it’s been on my mind forever as a 34H, I was a 32E at 14 years old and since then I’ve just felt grumpy and disgusting. I went to the NHS around 17/18 years old and was rejected. I’m 27 now and am thinking about financing the surgery - but the thought I’d the operation scares the living hell out of me!

Singletrackmind · 22/08/2023 16:45

@Bigtitsbetty love that bra 😎Someone please recommend me some bras like that when I’m brave enough to change out of the compression ones!
hello @Magpiecomplex 😀

flexigirl · 22/08/2023 16:53

Wow how have I missed this ?! I had a breast reduction when I was 20. I'm now 50!
The only regret I have which is worth consideration is that after many years like mine, your breast tissue is lumpy due to scar tissue/adhesions and I find it extremely hard to differentiate between hormonal changes in the lumpiness ( not yet menopausal ) and the types of lumps that need investigating.
As a result I've had three scares and two biopsies over, I'd say the last 15 years .

Martinisarebetterdirty · 22/08/2023 18:55

@Bigtitsbetty Looking fabulous!!! Did you measure or take a punt when you first went to sports bras?

We tend not to worry about size too much because a lot of it depends in make of bra and the shape of your boobs. You can see in my photo that I am very full up top and rounded breasts so I need a fuller cup. I would recommend seeing some surgeons to chat about it. Us post op ladies tend to agree that the uplift part is what makes the most difference.

@Singletrackmind thanks, it’s just a Next sports bra. Nothing special.

@Madagascary @Martinisarebetterdirty thanks! I just went ahead a bought what size I’d hoped to be. It’s Next so I knew I could return it 🤣

NoPanicNecessary · 22/08/2023 19:46

Hi everyone, I've thought about a breast reduction for a long time and am currently a 38GG (so too fat at mo). @Bigtitsbetty interesting you think there is a link between adenomyosis and hormonal breast growth. I was diagnosed last year and told little about adeno, but now you've said that I def think there's a link for me! I'm weighing up whether to save for a hysterectomy (doctor resistant because of my age 43) or breast reduction. It's rubbish looking/feeling matronly or like I'm showing my boobs off!

Madagascary · 22/08/2023 19:54

@WedTheBed hi, I think most of us went down from cup sizes in the f/g and more and down to D cups. As I’ve
said , it’s not a cup size, it’s a lift in the perkiness that is the big change.

I really wouldn’t be worried about the operation. It was the first time I’ve ever had an anaesthetic or an operation and really it was quite cool.

Just make sure that there’s someone to take your kids away and look after them because you won’t be able do anything really for at least a week, if not more. 2 if daily tasks. No lifting them for longer.

Heartfullofcheese · 22/08/2023 20:04

Hello and welcome to anyone new. @Bigtitsbetty they look truly fantastic!

I have questions!

When do I start to moisturise the scars? I’ve seen everything from 2 weeks to 3 months! I figure once any scabbiness is gone?

Best bras for going back to work? The post surgery bras are not giving enough coverage of the nipple area. I want good support but also don’t want any rough bands etc on my scars. I’m up and about all day so need to be comfy but covered.
Are those Next sports bras good?

Bigtitsbetty · 22/08/2023 20:13

@Heartfullofcheese i wore these bras a few weeks after surgery until I went into normal bras and they were really comfortable. Also easy to put on and off when you can’t lift your arms.

Prominent nipples is definitely an issue after surgery. I think it’s because they’re slap bang central now and before surgery they tucked into my waistband.
