Hi, could you give some advice for a mid twenties jeans and t shirt plus hoodie wearing woman newly promoted to senior tech role?
Ideas for jackets/ coats/ smarter workwear? Size 10/ 5ft 5
Thanks

CantStartaFireWithoutaSpark · 06/04/2022 22:09

5’3, U.K. 10, big boobs, slim otherwise.
I usually suit fitted outfits, as my big boobs make me look larger than I am.
What to wear smart casual, going out for a nice evening dinner (but not fancy). I really struggle with my look. I’m generally not a trend follower, I just wear what I feel suits my shape.

As your current style is fairly casual, I'd go for a relaxed, tailored look that will feel smart but still feel comfortable and won't leave you too far out of your comfort zone. I think it's also good to inject some colour and some fun into your workwear look, especially as you're mid 20s. There are so many options out there now that workwear doesn't have to be too formal or stuffy. Ive attached some images below for inspo. I'd get your basics sorted such as a few staple trousers - a cigarette trouser, wide leg, cullote- and then you can pair back with pieces such as the blue shirt perhaps with a smart brogue and layered with a trench, which is a great layering piece for spring and instantly smartens up any look. For jackets, something like this is a great piece that can be worn very easily with a variety of looks https://www.jigsaw-online.com/products/fluid-twill-knox-blazer-black?variant=41933133349030&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIq5-dutqC9wIVSOrtCh1yvwO0EAQYASABEgKopDD_BwE

Hi OP, what could I wear with a midi skirt, something other than a vest top? I'm slim, big boobs mid 20s ☺️☺️

Any advice for 32 y/o who had a baby 4 months ago, can’t seem to find anything fashionable or without fabric missing!

Something like this kind of dress might work for you . A square neckline is great for a large bust if you are petite as it opens up the neckline. This kind of dress is easy to dress up or down and would show off your figure without being too smart.

5"5 37 year old size 10-12 but no bust at all and very skinny legs that make me look like a twig. I also had dc a year ago and my tummy is wobbly and baby is sick over me all the time. Any suggestions?

Plus size can be more of a challenge because the offering is sometimes less varied but things are definitely getting better and a lot of shops are now even styling their clothes on larger sizes which is great to see. It's certainly easier than say 10-15 years ago and I enjoy styling women of all ages, shapes and sizes

Mid 40s, 5ft5, size 14 here. Tend to veer smart casual but struggling with jeans atm, though not ready to give up! What 5 items would you suggest for spring to update a generally boring wardrobe, nothing to look out there Grin

SirChenjins · 08/04/2022 14:54

If you've got time (I suspect you're going to be very busy here!) then ideas for a five foot one, size 10/12, pear shaped 53 year old would be much appreciated. Looking for similar to @hellswelshy - some key pieces, nothing too out there, but need a bit of wardrobe inspiration.

ThePennyJustDropped · 08/04/2022 14:58

I'd love some help with jeans please.

I'm 40, size 14 & 5'7 but all my height is in my upper body so I have stumpy tree trunk legs. I have a decent bust and defined waist. Flattish tummy. Very flat bum but quite wide hips. I look ok ish skinnies but very conscious they're not cool any more. And while as an older woman cool doesn't need to be my aim I don't want to look dated. But when I try the styles that look amazing on younger slimmer leggier women I just look dreadful and with a bum that seems a mile wide. Any suggestions?

Midi skirts are so versatile. I've attached some style inspo for you. They look great with a slogan/statement tshirt for a casual look but equally you could elevate the look with a classic unbuttoned shirt or blouse. Adding a belt also makes the look more put together and enhances the waist.

@MaryB90 these are two that I love. The blue floral is a great spring summer look that I'd wear with a leather jacket and the leopard print I'd wear with a statement tshirt and trainers for day time and a smart top for evening

I'm looking for a dress for a family wedding. I'm my head I'm thinking a blue/green silky wrap dress with short sleeves and ending just below the knee (and flattering on a slight tummy!).
Any suggestions please? Or any other ideas please?
I'm 5'3", size 10 with average size everything! I also have short hair if that makes a difference.
Thank you! x

I hear you with the fabric missing.. I keep seeing so many nice dresses that are ruined with a cut out back or waist detail!

Something like this jumpsuit is great for post baby as it's in a stretchy jersey fabric but it's stylish and doesn't feel frumpy. It would look great with a denim jacket and trainers for an every day, mum look

I'd go for a mom jean or wide leg as a skinny would be the wrong shape for your legs. They also tend to be quite rigid so will help hide the tummy area whereas a stretchy denim fabric can highlight any wobbly bits. I'd stick to something patterned so any spills are harder to spot and on a practical level, go for layers such as a vest and shirt so you can whip a layer off if needs be. A pretty blouse with jeans would be a good every day look. Ignore the white jeans but the overall look would be good for your figure and as you don't have a large bust, you can afford to wear pattern and sleeve details which balance out proportions

@frillseeking, I'd love you advice on what would you wear with summer dresses or a midi skirt if you wanted to wear them to work and sandals / white trainers are a no no.

FlosCampi · 08/04/2022 16:27

Please could you suggest some casual outfits for an hourglass? 5'4, veer between 12-16 but same basic shape. I have a high rise and short legs. Smart is sooo much easier with pencil skirts, shirt dresses etc, but as soon as i lose waist emphasis i look like an oxo cube in a sweatshirt!

2000lightyearsaway123 · 08/04/2022 16:34

As you mentioned you like styling all shapes and sizes of women I have a bit of a challenge for you.

Size 26, mid 20s, carry a lot of weight on my stomach. Outfit for a night out, potentially to a nightclub.

Don't worry if this is too difficult to figure out. Trust me I know lol.

This jumped out at me straight away as you've obviously found it difficult to find outfits. Have a look at Missguided, in the style, never fully dressed, asos, new look- lots of trendy options that would be great for a night out. These all have ruching or wrap detail which are great for providing some tummy coverage
