@Staffroomdoughnut I missed your post but I just had a quick look and Next, Office, New Look came up with hundreds of options. Higher end Russell and Bromley also have some and Net a Porter had hundred of options too. Happy shoe shopping!
Oh I see, so I point you didn't answer my question and instead of apologising and answering it you call me rude, well well well guess you learnt something then by making sure you answer everyone's post and apologising when you miss them.

Shame you failed to do that with mine.

Can you recommend some lovely, smart work clothes for a major fatty (size 24) am trying to lose weight but sick of looking like a scruff in the meantime.
I don't think I came back to you yet, here are some options:

@MissGendered

Where can i find stylish, hippie/Boho type clothes that are not terrible quality or full of frills and beads?

I love harem pants, long tunics, jumpsuits, ponchos and ethnic style fabrics and prints. Etsy is full of cheap, poorly made stuff from Thailand. Free people is shockingly expensive and hit or miss on quality. The designs are also hard to wear for mundane stuff like the school run and a wander round Lidl Grin

I love neutral colours, quality fabrics and simple designs that are loose and can be layered. I wish I had money and the creativity to start my own clothing line as I'm sure there's a gap in the market!

This was a tricky one too as you're right, a lot of boho style designs are beaded or embellished and often in very garish colours or cheap fabrics.

However, monsoon have got some great options in their new sew sustainable range that I think would tick your boxes. The styles come in neutral colours and gorgeous prints- they're handcrafted by artists in India and made in sustainable fabrics.

I'd also suggest Anthropologie and the white stuff, linked below

What is wrong with you?! It is utterly bizarre to be so hostile over and over again to someone you don't know on Mumsnet whose supposed crime is not answering your fashion question!

I am enjoying @frillseeking not rising to the bait, I'm impressed as I can imagine it's annoying seeing yet another mardy post from you pop up having a go at her.

coastergirl · 29/06/2021 21:09

@youvegottenminuteslynn I couldn't agree more!

DelurkingAJ · 29/06/2021 21:12

About 15 years ago DM bought me a dusky pink, fabric jacket with an asymmetric zip from Jigsaw. I guess bomber jacket style. I adored it and wore it until it literally fell to pieces. I’ve looked everywhere for something similar with no joy. Any suggestions, please?

Lol nothing is wrong with me. Just pointing out the hypocrisy.

I also a question and its ignored, I make a sarcastic comment about what's the point of asking for questions if your going to ignore them, get told I'm the ruse one even thought indidnt do anything wrong other than point out my question was ignored.

Op goes on to apologise to other people for missing their question but refuses to extend same courtesy to me.

I'm just pointing it out that's all.

I'm not being mardy, nor am I angry. I dont get upset over strangers on the Internet. I can make comments and call someone out for their actions though.

So OP can ignore me all they like but I've clearly had an impact since she is now apologising for missing peoples questions at least her customer service has improved so that's something!

youvegottenminuteslynn · 29/06/2021 21:51

@cyclingmad

She didn't apologise to the poster you quoted at 8pm. She just said she missed their post. You've gone on about how that post shows she's learned to apologise when she didn't apologise in it Grin

You know why she didn't apologise? Because she hasn't done anything wrong. You honestly sound unhinged at this point, it's really odd.

5’2 with large breast - what to wear to make one self look taller and more elegant ? (PS I’m not overweight just top heavy)
There are a couple of styling tips/tricks to give the illusion of being taller: - high waisted or high rise trousers give the illusion of a longer leg and in terms of styling, a palazzo is a classic, elegant style
 • avoid ankle length as this shortens the leg, ditto midi length. Go for short or and show off your legs or full length as anything in between breaks up your legs too much and will make you look shorter
-pointed toe heels are flattering and help create a nice, clean silhouette. Go for the same colour as your trousers as a contrast just breaks up the leg and isn't flattering -in the same vein, if going bare legged, go for a nude tone to give the illusion of longer legs
 • wear one colour or all tonal colours or one print all over - if you wear a contrast top and bottom it shortens and you want to create one, clean vertical line

@frillseeking, thanks so much for replying. I appreciate you taking the time to give me advice.

I think from years of being obese I do tend to stick to one colour and tops not tucked in or loose.

The sad thing is I still think that I look big in photos/mirror, etc, so,I know I have to work on that too.

I've attached attached couple of pics of me to show what I mean. How can I improve these? Are these clothes something I should steer clear of?

I'm hoping that after my most recent surgery I won't have the saddlebags any more, which will hopefully help. The photos were taken before this latest surgery.

@MorriseysGladioli

I love all the recommendations you've given. My question is how to flatter a "gunt". Tricky.
Thank you. The dreaded 'gunt'! I'm still conscious of this area but when I was PP, I found that dresses like the one below were really flattering because the shirring made the torso area look smaller but then it flares below the waist, hiding any lower belly fat. Also tops with a slightly longer hem like this one and high waist skinny jeans worn with a tight vest underneath to hold everything in and smooth over lumps and bumps then an unbuttoned shirt

@PeanutButterFalcon

Hello, hope you don’t mind me asking for help. Im looking for a outfit to wear to a wedding in a months time. I will only be a few weeks postpartum and breastfeeding. I also have acne on my back and chest (hoping it’s the hormones and will reduce once I’ve given birth) but very conciliatory about it. Obviously no idea what size I will be. I’m more hippy and have small boobs and in my mid 20s. Everything I see has the ‘mumsy’ vibe.
Happy to help. It's a tricky time to dress for an occasion but I've found a few options that might work, depending on your own personal taste and what kind of wedding it will be.

This style would hide back and chest if you want to cover up and I think this has a much younger, fun look than other typical nursing dresses
www.seraphine.com/en-gb/scalloped-lace-maternity-nursing-dress-old/

If you can get away with something more informal, this might be a nice option: www.mamalicious.com/gb/en/mm/clothing/dresses/mltenna-2-in-1-maternity-dress-20012707.html?cgid=mm-dresses-maternity&dwvar_colorPattern=20012707_ChinaBlue_848244

The wrap style is also great for feeding and I like this bright, funky print:
www.omnes.com/collections/dresses/products/fsc-viscose-portobello-wrap-midi-dress-in-purple-animal

This shape could also work www.silkfred.com/boutiques/meme-x/clothing/bright-floral-printed-bardot-shirred-midi-dress?locale=en-GB&gclid=CjwKCAjwieuGBhAsEiwA1Ly_nWFGRNDLteXAqMakKOlV-fsaC7sAKDxKy_xwh4jxGr0oJVHVVwj64xoC5AkQAvD_BwE I found the Bardot great for feeding - great for easy access

@youvegottenminuteslynn

Thanks so much, really great to get some advice!

Another thing I can never get right... the French tuck / any other form of casual tucking a top into jeans / skirt when you tend to hold weight around your tummy. Shall I just admit defeat - is it just not a good look if you tend to be a bit bloated around the stomach? I guess maybe it's highlighting the area I don't like. I always think it'll help me feel less exposed around the tummy than being totally tucked in and less unflattering than oversize stuff left loose... but it ends up looking really awkward!

You're welcome! There are some great tutorials on YouTube on how to perfect this look, I'd definitely recommend having a look there. I think it's really flattering and use this trick myself as it shows your waist without being too revealing. Definitely more flattering than leaving tops loose

As someone who has recently been on maternity leave have you got any tips of how to find a style that fits a new shape ?

I came off maternity leave a few months ago but haven’t been to the shops since before I was pregnant so still wearing old maternity clothes and any old bits I can squeeze into from pre baby days

I feel like the same person but my clothes don’t agree and despite maybe having the same dress size, my proportions are definitely different (wider hips and weird boobs specifically)

@DrRamsesEmerson

This is such a brilliant thread! I need clothes for the Orient Express for my silver wedding later this year - I am so looking forward to it but feel flummoxed on clothes as I normally wear suits for work, jeans the rest of the time, and I don’t want to look as though I’m going to work! I need a daytime outfit and a black tie frock. I mostly wear trousers, plain colours and simple shapes - no frills. I’m 5’2”, size 8 hourglass with big boobs and short legs.
Ooh fantastic! How exciting to have something so lovely to look forward to. That definitely requires some thought in the wardrobe department and something special.

With your figure, something like this would look great.

@mycatscausehell

casual 50s vintage-esque style for someone who overheats hugely in the summer, I like most colours on myself except pinks, tans and off whites. pale with dark blonde hair and green eyes, hourglass with 32F and 10-12. I'm in my early 20s.

also id like your opinion on these shorts and what you'd style them with, especially in navy. I'm worried the longer inseam could look a bit frumpy, especially on my tree trunk legs, but also don't want to be swimming in my shorts

theseamstressofbloomsbury.co.uk/shop/1940s-vintage-emma-tap-shorts/

thank you for such an interesting thread

I'd go for a full 50s style cotton skirt, maybe in a floral or gingham and something like this cotton sundress and pieces that nod to the trend if you don't want to go full on vintage style. Little floral tea blouses or shapes with pretty collars, floral tea dresses etc I've linked some ideas below
