Best designer size 18? Money no object. Sick of cheap plus size tat.

naemates · 28/06/2021 10:13

You're a saint OP!

I've been looking at getting personal shopping appointment, but when trying to book at John Lewis was asked my size which only went up to 18 and I'm a 20. I then looked at paying for a personal shopper that's not tied into a shop, which is looking at £600 and leaves me with no money for clothes!

Do you think I could book at JL anyway or will they take one look at me and send me home Blush?

I'd avoid John Lewis if they only go up to an 18 as you're going to feel rubbish and limited before you start and there are so many options out there so that would be a real shame.

I work freelance and do £50 per hour appointments and would be happy to help, just message me if you want my help!

Don't go to JL. I'm an 8 (albeit a short curvy one) and booked a personal shopping appointment for an outfit for my 40th. I'm normally pretty assertive but I'm sensitive about my looks having always been 'the clever one' as a child. She made it incredibly clear that she didn't think she could make me look good even with all the time and money in the world, and I crawled out of there feeling 2 inches high, fat and hideous. I complained afterwards but really wish I'd just told her to fuck off at the time!

What a great thread! Sorry if this ones been asked!
31, size 14/16 Apple shape I think. Small waist and slim legs. 36DD. I live in black skinny jeans and huge band t-shirts or shirts. I have a v neck wide legged jumpsuit i love. I'm in such a rut! Please send help on everyday clothes that I can dress up/ down (I like boho/ 60's styles) I feel like everything makes me look pregnant! 3 csections aswell if that helps with tummy concealment! Smile

MinnieJackson · 28/06/2021 10:38

@DrRamsesEmerson that's awful!

RubixRubicon · 28/06/2021 10:41

Thanks OP, just wanted to say I appreciate you doing this while looking after two small DC (and happy to wait my turn on skirts).

DrRamsesEmerson · 28/06/2021 10:48

@MumblesAndMutters, I'm the Orient Express poster. Thanks very much for the tip on things that might snag or catch, I'd never have thought of that!

frillseeking · 28/06/2021 10:49

@cyclingmad

So why start an ama if your too busy then? And why just answer the easy ones mensing you then miss other questions and then can play the I missed your post card. Why not just answer them in order.

Its only a lovely thing to do if your going to do it properly and not cherry pick what you'll answer and what you'll confidently forget about.

Anyway sounds like you cant answer my question anyway.

I've spent hours replying to people, it's taken up my whole weekend! I haven't answered the easy requests either, I had to start from scratch on many of the requests such as high end workwear and some of the requests were v specific and took me ages to research. I've been inundated with requests on here and I didn't answer your question because you were so rude and you're back here again being rude again today. Please don't pull me up on here as if you are my boss, telling me how I should reply to people when I am giving free advice as a bit of fun! Your attitude is awful

@cyclingmad, you have been extraordinarily rude to a poster who's doing a helpful thing voluntarily. I wouldn't answer you if I were the OP.

No probs, happy to try to help! I've linked a few options for you below. I think they work well with the colour palette you mentioned and they're in natural fibres so should keep you cool. Hope that helps

@cyclingmad wow you don't sound very nice. If you are that bothered why don't you actually pay someone to do it rather than pester someone doing it for free! So entitled and self centred.

watermeeon · 28/06/2021 11:46

Thank you so much for doing this, it's extremely kind of you to take so much time! Especially when it must be extremely limited by 2 under 2 ...

I had a question - any tips for dressing short women with big boobs (5 foot and currently a 32F)? I love Sezane as a style, and although I get the odd thing from Boden petite it is a bit 'old' for me. I find most blogs and online information about dressing for petite bodies doesn't take into account having huge breasts, or vice versa.

If I could look like I belonged in a Sezane or ba&sh catalogue that would be great. I'm in my early 30s.

cheeseisthebest · 28/06/2021 11:50

How to do 1920s style when you’re a pear shape? I’ve been invited to a party which is 1920s glamour….am looking at flapper dresses which look better on a straight up and down body shape I think.

naemates · 28/06/2021 13:15

Cyclingmad this is why we can't have nice things, you are not entitled to a response and the OP does not owe you anything

MinnieJackson · 28/06/2021 13:18

@cyclingmad give it a rest. Why are you so angry? There have been hundreds of questions!

frillseeking · 28/06/2021 13:26

I mentioned up thread about any tops with a knot detail being good for those conscious about the tummy area. I just saw this in the Zara sale which is the style I was referring to, good to have a visual and great to have a pop of colour. This would be good for workwear too pared back down with smart black trousers

I'm also conscious of stomach and have just ordered these skirts. Zara tend to use v slim models but there are some great styles available if you can imagine on a larger body. They also have size XXL now

Thankyou for your reply, I do already look at most of those names, not overly impressed with Simply Be, had to send a load of stuff back recently.
Yours is okay, but I find at this time of year not many things with sleeves, and some either a strange fit or very long. Do not get on with their bottoms at all, the fit is bad.

I can imagine it's quite tricky to dress for your shape as lots of petite styles just aren't designed with big boobs in mind. I think the assumption is that petite = boyish for some reason. I had a quick look for you and this style is quite similar to the types of dresses on Sezane and the model herself looks quite busty but the wrap provides adequate coverage and also allows for a proper bra. In terms of fit, the wrap and a v neck is flattering and avoid anything high neck or high waisted. Some of the high street shops like New Look do some great petite styles and also look at Free People and Reformation. I'd also look in some of the mainstream shops like Other Stories as they are cut for a more petite body anyway.

Also have a look at Monki, Ulla Popken and Cos for a trendier look
