Amazon often gets a hard time on MN, tbf it’s not the easiest place to work but needs must.
I shall try to answer your questions best I can Wink

How many deliveries are you expected to do per shift?

PlinkPlink · 26/01/2021 14:59

Do you find its predominantly a male environment where you are?

I always picture postal services to be mainly male (not that thats right by the way, I'd love to be a postie or delivery driver)

rbe78 · 26/01/2021 14:59

Are you an Amazon employee/employed by another company Amazon outsource to/self-employed?

Akire · 26/01/2021 15:01

Are you told to wear mask when you go inside buildings? I’m in a block of flats small shared landings, lifts and stairs and hardly any delivery drivers use. It is totally different to dropping off on a doorstep outside.

CourierLass · 26/01/2021 15:08

@PomegranatePip
An average 9 hour shift, 30 minutes of which is travelling to an area, has between 140/180 deliveries with over 220 parcels.
@PlinkPlink
Very male dominated, our depot has about 300 drivers and less than 5% are women.

Do you get paid per delivery or a day rate?

TheQueef · 26/01/2021 15:10

No Q.
Thanks mate Brew

CourierLass · 26/01/2021 15:11

@rbe78
I’m a sub contractor to a logistics company, Amazon rarely employ direct as they do not want any responsibility for you.
@Akire
Amazon are very strict on social distancing, mask MUST be worn outside your van, parcels placed down at door and step back until door opens.
It’s the customers who don’t stick to SD as they reach out to take parcel and rarely have a mask.

Do you get bonuses for the new feedback system?

CourierLass · 26/01/2021 15:12

@EmmaT93
Set day rate, regardless of volume, we had a seasonal increase which stopped on 26/12, volume has increased since then 😔

@CourierLass

Do you do via Amazon flex?

SeeyouontheothersideofCovid · 26/01/2021 15:14

I salute you. I think the Amazon delivery team (and other delivery companies) are doing an amazing job. Come rain and snow they keep on delivering, and workers like you are so kind to get our items to us in all conditions. I can see how hard you work and I think it must be gruelling.

When deliveries arrive, the person doing the drop has to put down the package and move away pronto, so sadly I don't have the opportunity to say thank you to their face. Can't even tip as cash is now a Covid pariah! I hope OP you get treated well but I'm sure you earn absolutely every penny.

CourierLass · 26/01/2021 15:15

@Whatsnewpussyhat
There is a team bonus but virtually unachievable. We never get told of positive feedback only negative.
Two 👎🏼 in a week, which could be out of 1000 deliveries and you lose a shift, 3 or more sent for retraining.
It’s a very unfair system as several reasons to 👎🏼 are things out with a driver control ie parcel is late; I deliver what I get, if it’s late it’s because warehouse sent it late.

As PP said, thank you! I can’t imagine it’s much fun.

Do you have any bug bears with customers - outside of covid issues?

Whats the minimum drops you have to do in a day?

Do you have to have your own van? Can you use a car?

Can you pick your hours?

Whats the weirdest thing a customer has said or done?

CourierLass · 26/01/2021 15:17

@thenewduchessofhastings
As I said above I’m a full time DA, flex is only short 2/3 hr blocks you can do with a car.
I drive a mercedes vito.
Our app is called Flex but operates differently plus Flex drivers are not held to the standards we are.

Thank you, that’s very kind. Someone calling out thank you does spur me on Flowers

@CourierLass

We use to have a Mercedes Vito;we had a 6 seater one;loved that vehicle

Housing101 · 26/01/2021 15:19

Is it your own van?

CourierLass · 26/01/2021 15:21

@LiJo2015
As I’m full time, I work 5/6 full days which is 9 hrs on the road and up to an hour loading at depot. I don’t choose my hours.
I have a min 130 drops(addresses which many are multi drops)
Car is only for flex as they have very small amount of parcels.
Bug bears; ppl who take ages to answer the door; we have 2 minutes per drop!!

OP posts:
CourierLass · 26/01/2021 15:22

@Housing101
It’s a leased van.

I use amazon All. The. Time. Seriously, you're all doing Gods work in my eyes. My husband doesn't like amazon because of their questionable treatment of their employees. Do you think poorly of people who use amazon regularly? Do you think the customers to be lazy if, like me, they have a couple of deliveries at least each week?

What can customers do to make your job easier?

mcmooberry · 26/01/2021 15:30

Are you allowed to accept tips? I used to give £2 tips but once a while back I tried to give a driver this on a boiling hot Sunday and he said no, he got paid enough and wouldn't take it. So I didn't want to insult anyone.

That’s shit!

I left a down vote for someone who didn’t knock but just left it on the doorstep. Luckily it wasn’t raining

I won’t do that again

No more downvotes unless it’s seriously bad services

That shit. I've always left nice feedback as it's only 2 clicks and thought it would be worth something to the couriers. You should at the very least be told all your positives and be given achievable targets, especially considering most customers won't bother unless complaining.
