That's absolutely brilliant!! I'm doing SW at the moment. Started a year ago. Had a great start, but have lost motivation and struggling a year on. I've lost nearly three stone in total and have another couple to go, but am now just bobbing around and have done for months. Your post has inspired me. Thank you!

VelvetSpoon · 23/07/2018 22:01

You've done brilliantly OP. I joined SW twice, lost 5st, gained back 4, lost 3.5st, now I am roughly back where I started 7 years ago. I never got to my target weight as both times my weight loss completely plateaud and I got disheartened with it. I ended up eating a lot of yoghurt which I don't like, and those awful ryvita type things that tasted like grated mdf, I never managed to not make it feel like a diet.

How do you deal with well meaning other people? For example if I went back to SW now, I know my partner would be complaining about me not having butter on bread/ toast, not cooking with oil or butter, the lack of takeaways and eating out etc...how would/ have you dealt with this from friends or family?

raisedbyguineapigs · 23/07/2018 22:02

Thanks for posting this. I'm in the same boat as corblimey. You have inspired me to. SW does get stick but the are people who stick to it and it's changed their lives. I only have a stone to go and it's a slog. Is it really hard to maintain or do you basically know now what the syns are and what you are able to eat?

EmmaGrundyForPM · 24/07/2018 07:26

You look amazing! Well done.

I used to be overweight but managedvtonlose 3 stone a few years ago. My husband is really slim and our teenage sons could eat for England and still stay skinny. It was really hard trying to lose weight when other people in the house were eating normally.

Is/was your partner overweight as well, and if you have kids, are they overweight? In other words, did you diet as a family or were you on your own?

I’m sorry to be blunt but that sounds like an excuse to me. What is it to do with your partner if you have butter on your toast? Sit him down If necessary and explain how much It means to you. All the things you mention can be incorporated into the plan with Wise choices. My family and friends have been really supportive And never complained. I’ve had to do more of the cooking and have willpower but it’s been good for me.

I’ve maintained for about two months and I’m finding it easy. I just carry on following the plan just adding in extra healthy extras and a few syns occasionally. I add up syns in my head and am usually at the top end. I always make a plan for the day ahead the night before. I follow a rough weekly meal plan every week and that’s really helped.

Hi op wow you look amazing and very much younger.
Can you describe the difference in energy levels from healthy eating? I'm very curious as thibk I need to make huge diet changes

eeyoredebbie · 24/07/2018 19:56

DH is slim and can eat sweet stuff for England and makes cakes! He cycles to and from work and does about 15k steps at work

I manage to resist his treats by having my own syn bag and saving majority of syns for evening snack. I eat three filling and healthy meals, drink lots of water and keep busy. He also keeps his chocolate in The fridge which I hate!

We don’t have kids and I don’t see my other family very regularly but my sister and in laws have followed the plan too and know what to cook for me.

There’s loads of SW recipes you can cook for a family and it not be diet food and you can give them extras, for example lasagne or spag Bol with veg\salad and/or SW chips for you and garlic bread/extra cheese for them

I have much more energy now, I do a lot of batch cooking, a lot more self care, dog walking, exercise, spring cleaning, going to the gym frequently. I can’t attribute it solely to the healthy eating though, it’d a general change in attitude and the more you do the more you want to do. Some days it is a case of I don’t want to do that job, I don’t want to go to the gym but getting up and doing it anyway. Because where did sitting on the sofa get me before?

I read you thread ages ago and was interested in your story. That YouTube video is simply amazing.... a pictures worth a thousand words....

I could do with losing a stone and I will try and think of what you've achieved to help me motivate myself.

Congrats on the weight loss. It's a huge accomplishment.

Nottoberudebut · 02/01/2019 18:36

So inspiring! I really like SW and I find it easy to follow as long as I’m sensible.

Ok, so I start off with good intentions but then mentally give up. What made you really click this time OP? I have actually been having counselling for binge eating because I want to take control. Still in counselling but now need to gently begin losing weight. Just wondered what clicked for you this time?

I think I just decided this was my last chance. The longer I followed SW the more I realised it suited me and was easy. I could truly eat this way for life. It also became a hobby or interest for me and I’ve always put my weight loss first, it’s been my priority.

I did have to get off a ride at London Dungeons but it was a few months later when I finally joined a group. What’s kept me going is the awards and social media and being determined never to go back.

Wow. No questions but just wanted to say you look amazing and you have inspired me to lose the extra 12 stone I have been lugging around for years.

DonDrapersOldFashioned · 03/01/2019 15:17

So you’re actually here to flog Slimming World? Hmm

MarshaBradyo · 03/01/2019 15:18

Oh my goodness you must feel like a new you. Well done

Printerneedsink · 03/01/2019 17:16

How much and what type of excercise have you been doing?

eeyoredebbie · 03/01/2019 21:56

So you’re actually here to flog Slimming World?

No I’m here to say that was the plan that worked for me. It fitted into my lifestyle. It was easy for me. Not everybody will feel the same. I would say to anybody wanting to lose weight, find a plan that suits you, fits into your lifestyle and is sustainable for life. Someone in my real life came across my posts on here so i thought I’d bump the thread for the January rush.

How much and what type of excercise have you been doing?

I started off at the very beginning at 26 stone with gentle walking (the dog), 5 mins then 10, 15 slowly up to 30 mins a day. I then increased my speed etc. I then did low impact exercise videos alongside the dog walking. When I got t about 18 stone I joined a gym, where over time I followed a programme on the exercise machines, swimming (building up the lengths similar to the walking), classes (aqua aerobics, dynamic conditioning and circuits). When I got to about 12 stone I did couch to 5k. I’ve picked up an injury but I keep up with the walking and hope to get back to the gym soon.

Well done, seriously well done
