(Have set up a whole new username for this so there's no chance of it coming back to me and the Daily Mail can sod off thank you!)

I still maintain though that my quality friendships are my hometown ladies!

I don't have a question but I just came to say I've really enjoyed reading 🙈

RadioDorothy · 11/07/2018 22:41

I don't have a question but this is fascinating...especially Trippier's thighs, waheeeey! The guy does look rather like a serial killer from the front though.

mishfish · 11/07/2018 22:45

You know how some people have a fantasy life, that is probably close to your real life, do you have a fantasy life? Do you ever imagine or wish life to be any different to how it is?

When we were on holiday a few years ago, in a hotel where the majority of the reviews were talking about how moody the waiters were, they were being ridiculously friendly to my partner and bringing him everywhere to meet their colleagues- on the last day it transpired that they thought he was Raul Meireles but he didn’t have the heart to tell them that he certainly was not Grin

Fascinating thread. Thanks OP!

What position does your DH play and how many more years is his career do you think?

AdulterousMuse · 11/07/2018 23:12

Sorry, MikeUniformMike, was that aimed at me, and about the oddities of the away dressing room? It's been a while, but from what I remember, the one at DH's club had little things designed to make everything feel slightly 'off' -- like there was a big pillar in the middle of the floor so the away manager couldn't stand centrally and be seen by everyone simultaneously for a pre-match pep talk, and the pegs were at an odd height to make players getting changed strain a bit, and the walls were painted a particularly ugly colour. Anything to remind the visitors they aren't on home territory, but stopping short of the dirty tricks clubs did in the past, like no hot water and deliberately over-polished slippery floors.

MountFuji · 12/07/2018 06:52

Extremely riveting thread thank you very much.

I know in the old days players used to have a few beers in the dressing room after the game etc. Does anything like this happen anymore - or are they made to behave like serious athletes all the time? Do they ever wind down in the players lounge with a few drinks? Do you join them?

glitterbiscuits · 12/07/2018 07:29

I've thought of another one! Can you explain the transfers to me please. I hear the headlines like Fred Bloggs transferred from Team X to Team Y for £10 million.
Who gets the money? Do team X pay team Y? Do players get anything?
Does this mean that Team Y would expect to increase their revenue by the amount the player cost?
Do players have any say in if they want to be 'sold' How do they feel about it? It makes them sound like property. Does every player have a sale value? I'm thinking of property squares on Monopoly here. Some are Mayfair others are Old Kent Road.

I'm enjoying your thread too. I know nothing about football. I cannot name a single member of the England team or any teams in the Premier League. I'd just guess famous teams. So it will be good if I hear the headlines on the news that I can understand what's going on.

CatsCatsCats11 · 12/07/2018 07:40

Shamelessly following Grin

NicoAndTheNiners · 12/07/2018 08:00

Can a footballer refuse a transfer? So say if they play for Man U and Man U want to sell them to Arsenal. Can they say no I’m not going? I guess they might end up with no team but if they wanted to walk away from football rather than play for Arsenal could they?

Pandamodium · 12/07/2018 08:04

Do you miss your family parents/siblings etc?

Your life sounds amazing but I don't think I would be happy away from my mam Blush (I'm 29 with 3 DC)

iamawagama · 12/07/2018 08:12

Morning all!

You know how some people have a fantasy life, that is probably close to your real life, do you have a fantasy life? Do you ever imagine or wish life to be any different to how it is?

My childish fantasy would be that my best friends would get together with DH team mates and we could all go on group holidays and we could all live in the same town 🤣.
But my real fantasy would be that I knew, for sure, that DH would see out his career at one club and know that we wouldn't have to move again, then he would get a coaching job at the same club. So basically my fantasy would be being able to stay put for a while!

Not sure about booze in the dressing room unless they've won a tournament or something! Some players do wind down with a drink in the lounge after a match but we tend to dash home as LO is all antsy by then... we then order pizza/nandos and drink wine by ourselves in our pyjamas Grin

Team Y would pay Team X

Do players get anything?

Yes they'll get a %, as will their agent (being an agent is VERY lucrative)

Does this mean that Team Y would expect to increase their revenue by the amount the player cost?

I guess so 🤔

Do players have any say in if they want to be 'sold' How do they feel about it? It makes them sound like property. Does every player have a sale value?

It can be v disheartening for a player to be sold but it would usually be because the manager sees no place for him on their squad and he would otherwise be sat on the bench or might not even make the subs bench. In football not getting in the team is terrible for your career as people will forget you exist so it's in their best interest to take a loan/move to a different club and actually play. Of course, it could be the other way where the player is doing so well a bigger team will come in and make the club an offer they can't refuse!
Players have some say in where they will go but sometimes beggars can't be choosers and they end up settling for somewhere they wouldn't have chosen. That's what the agent is for though, to advocate for you and get you the very best deal

Yea they can refuse, especially if they have years left on their contract however management can make it very very difficult for them - not play them, make them train with the under 23s (at the age of 30). So it's more likely they would be bought out of their contract and then become a 'free agent' to sign with someone else

I see them every few weeks Smile and because I don't work I can always go and visit them. It might be a five hour car journey some days but my mum's roast dinners are worth it Grin

Have you read the "I am the Secret Wag"?
It seems fairly true to life judging by what you've answered here.

Do you know who the "secret WAG" is? Is it an open secret in WAG circles?

Are you the "secret WAG"?

iamawagama · 12/07/2018 08:56

Nooooo! Goshdarnit has she stolen my book idea before I even got the chance to decide on a title?!

With the regular moving have you ever considered sending your DC to boarding school ? When your DH career ends do you plan go back to yours ?

iamawagama · 12/07/2018 09:52

With the regular moving have you ever considered sending your DC to boarding school ?

Yes. Totally considered it, especially if a move happened during gcse years. In fact I chose this most recent school with that in mind (they board as well as Have day students). I'd be super sad but my eldest is the type that would love it...!

When your DH career ends do you plan go back to yours ?

Still undecided on that. I think I will probably change career, my problem is I have no idea to what?!

I love this tread my question is, what's the best quality your DH has? Aside from being a footballer lol? X

JohnnyMcGrathSaysFuckOff · 12/07/2018 10:49

Great thread!

Do you try to give your kids as normal and grounded a life as possible? Hand me downs, supermarket clothes, fish fingers for dinner and sharing? Or is it all new, best of everything?

mishfish · 12/07/2018 10:50

Thanks for your answer OP.

You sound really grounded and lovely

Do you find yourself struggling to relate to people at times? Or ever feel that you have to keep quiet about certain problems in front of certain people to not appear insensitive? Like if they’ve got money issues or if say their husband is going away with the armed forces etc.

Have you ever had any friends betray you to the press or media?
